A family member bought the Usborne books for us years ago and I always thought they were too difficult. Clearly I didn’t look at them close enough. Thanks for sharing! Sounds like a great curriculum! We started with Leapfrog dvds, and then moved on to All About Reading and these two things worked excellent for us, but every child has different learning needs.

My daughter has not gotten the concept of reading, she forgets a lot and has seen two specialists, I have been trying everything and people have tried working with her, what can I do to help her? If anyone has suggestions, she has been diagnosed with dyslexia and an intellectual learning disability. HELP

My daughter learned to read with the book “Storybook Treasury of Dick and Jane and Friends” plus a book called “the read-it-yourself storybook” my mom saved from when I learned to read! They sound similar to the reading pathways!

Not to mention it is inexpensive. We also use Learn to Read from Easy Peasy (free) which my son likes a lot better. We want nothing more than to see our babies read fluently so they will be able to read to learn. Slow and steady wins the race. You're doing a great job mama! ❤

So cool. We’re in our first year of kindergarten and use explode the code with the good and the beautiful currently. We are continuing with both good and the beautiful, explode the code and have all about spelling to include for first grade. Also, we’re giving first language lessons for the well trained mind a try as a loop in since I’ve heard great things with the oral narration and memory work. It’s great we can start interventions earlier and immediately for our kiddos because we homeschool. Look forward to hearing more updates.

I’m so glad I found you. Our daughters sound very similar! I have most of the resources you mentioned. I need to get explode the code. We are going to do AAR level 2 and AAS 1 soon. We did TGTB level K and Teach your Child to Read in 100 easy lessons for 1st grade. The 100 easy lessons is what helped the most I think get her reading confidence up. Thanks for the video!

Do you recommend blast off to reading or the reading pathways? They both look good but I feel like doing both on top of our curriculum would overwhelm my struggling rising 3rd grader. Just looking for something to supplement.

It’s a good supplement for reinforcing reading skills, especially if you suspect any kind of dyslexia. The games online are pretty rudimentary, but they add in a component of fun.

I think they’re both valuable resources depending on what you’re looking for. We just use ETC now since my girls can do it independently, only sometimes needing my assistance when a new phoneme is introduced. Blast Off was really helpful in establishing some fluency but is much more parent/teacher involved, which is what one of my daughters needed at the time. Her younger sister is a strong reader and didn’t use it at all but has done ETC since she started schooling and loves it.
I definitely wouldn’t push it if my daughter wasn’t dying to learn to read, haha! Her reading skills have improved so much, and she was so excited to finish her first chapter book on her own!

Pathways would be a good supplemental choice! Very easy to implement and doesn’t take up a lot of time.

She’s improved so much in her fluency and decoding abilities! She loves to read.

Hello! How do you incorporate all of the resources? Are you focusing on one book at a time? All at once?
I was looping them into our schedule. Not everyone was done every day.

Did reading pathways end up working well?
Yes, it helped a lot with fluency.
My son is in 3rd grade he reads but has comprehension problems what do i do?
I’m not an expert, but having my daughter narrate, or tell back, after readings has been an easy comprehension tool.
How do you know when your child is struggling??
She was having a hard time with retention and reading fluency.
Most kids don’t read til age 9 :)

Have you tried snap words from child1st? They are amazing. My kindergartener was able to read about 40 words in a couple of weeks.
