The Colonization of African states isn't to blame for the constant conflict and poverty, it's the removal of Colonies. Conflict only arose after the mainly European Colonial governments pulled out. South Africa is a prime example.

European colonies were, in essence, trying to expand their holdings into an area that hadn't seen technological advancement in thousands of years, and was equivalent to the hunter-gatherer tribes of ancient Europe. Giving total control over regions back to people who hadn't been raised and molded by the "European" style of rule resulted in some countries a return of Tribal Chiefs and warlords, as you see with Dictators.

Africa needs to redraw its own borders in a way that makes sense. The way Europe divided it was arbitrary and is the cause of a lot of this conflict.
Apart for some exceptions, redrawing borders wouldn't change anything. African countries have already developed a sense of identity.
And blaming those messy borders for the failing of a country is exaggerated. In Europe we also have different cultures gathered in a single country (eg: Walloon and Flemish in Belgium) and we're not genociding each other.

The US has a longer history and wasn't really exploited by the Europeans...
Unlike Africa the US had a good deal of local rule pre-independence and built up it's own institutions.... After the US won it's independence it was able to build up even more institutions that greatly benefited it's citizenry. (it then had around 300 years of relative isolation to refine those institutions and gain complete control of it's modern territory).... Compare that to Africa, colonies that were mainly used for resource extraction where a good portion of the African population wasn't educated (and thus they had exceedingly few qualified leaders who knew anything about economics or how to manage a country).
Such distinctions are why Colonial settlements like the US and Canada do so well, while places such as the Congo (which was under brutal Belgian rule for centuries and were treated like pack animals) suffer... Also the Europeans had a funny way of putting different tribes together that utterly hated each other or caused inter-tribal rivalries...
it's difficult to build a powerful nation when your nation is still a bickering collection of tribes. (just look at Nigeria with it's Biafra situation)

You are correct. These places need an appropriate "western" system of government imposed on them and a heavy police/military presence to keep the peace. Then heavy focus on education, health and economic development. I've read some of the other replies to your post and they are just wrong. These countries mentioned in the video and many others have proven that they can't be left to their own devices. It's to bad that the world doesn't have the will to force the change.
Sheldon G No nation would function well if a foreign body colonizes them and plunges them into a totally different way of life against their will. Let them do things their way instead of expecting them to be democratic and loyal to your ideals. The fact that they were colonised affects their mindset and ability to develop in the first place.
It probably also has something to do with European powers handing over a modern form of government to a population without a modern education and not even bothering to help.

Blaming colonists is for your situation of your own country's failure is a wrong behaviour which is just for gaining attention and sympathy . I am from India but we don't blame British for of our problems and similarly these countries should not blame European and should start doing some work by themselves.
That is because India had successfully governed and managed their own country for a long time before the British colonized it while Africa was continuously colonized by Europe leaving them unknowing in how to maintain and govern their own country

in no way do i defend europe's slave trade and theft in africa but the colonisers built railways factories and roads in those countries and they have not made use of what was left behind by the colonisers, there was infrastructure in ex colony countries but many have failed to take advantage of the infrastructure left behind by the world superpowers (at the time) yet they complain that there is no infrastructure or jobs in those countries.
oh and also the africans had enslaved eachother way before the atlantic slave trade came to their countries, such as within the mali empire and ancient egypt and also in africa, the kings and queens of african countries were happy to sell of their own people to europe as slaves because they gave them guns, thats why it was called the slave trade.
So africa may have been better before the europeans but the europeans gave them infrastructure and industry (and yes many times unfortunately exploited the workers) but i believe africa would not be better off today if the europeans never came.
anyway all humans are greedy some would do anything to get rich and many africans enslaved eachother and killed eachother for their own gains such as pre colonial african empires like the benin empire (their flag says it all) so it isn't 100 percent the fault of the europeans and not every african alive were angels

Im could be wrong but most of the issues seem to stem from the European colonisers having to quickly leave a country so they can be independent. I feel they would have been better off with a slow European exit that way their economies wouldn't have collapsed upon independence.
