One of the best moments of any project is when it very suddenly starts to look like you've done a job, rather than being stuck doing the job. A very satisfying update watch!
Cavity wax flows better if you dunk the can in some hot water before you spray. You are doing a terrific job and I also love your video production technique too. 👍 You definitely deserve a lot more views.
@@soupclassicmotoring Have you considered running it through at 45 degrees to get the corners, then back to vertical/horizontal for a second run to cover the sides?
Cavity wax lance steady was pure genius! The tatty cover is about as much use as a chocolate teapot and had me wincing - I'd buy you a new one but don't want to do anything that may slow your excellent progress!
Was really excited to use it. Might make two small holes through the floor support/sill end when we're back on the road and use the Delta Auto screw compressor. Won't be able to use the steady though :( Cover was 2nd hand when I bought and is actually a fitted thing for a T2 VW. It's like a Chapman era Lotus racing car, just about made it to the finish line.
Amazing to see how the skills have developed since you started this. Awesome to see you cut out bad bits and quickly replace them without a thought. Great work George, keep it up!
That's good progress by any standard, especially when you're working outside in the elements. As for me, the Vitesse is back on the road with a fresh MOT - I can't really believe it as it's been nine months since I started the brake overhaul and the engine top end repairs, but it's an amazing feeling to get that MOT sheet in my hand and the right to roam the roads once more. And what a glorious noise and wonderful speed! So many little jobs to do though - adjust the doors and handles for better fit and operation, sort out some rust in the cill, find the water leak in the boot and plug it, refurbish the alloy wheels and get new tyres, work out why the interior lights won't switch off without pulling the fuse and find a replacement for the very rusty bonnet.
Great work George! Having moved from Sydney Australia to Castlebar, Co Mayo for a year where it rained literally all but 4 days I was there, I am astonished you are doing this outside in the elements! You must be looking forward to getting the Rangie back on the road! Cheers Steve and Zacky (porsche 356 will it start) from Sydney
Jeez, I’d forgotten how bad those sills were until you showed that shot of them coming out. Great work - just keep plugging away - You’re closer than you think now there’s paint on. Reassembly will happen pretty quick. 👍
Another excellent update, George. It isn't never ending, but it often seems that way! With the undercoat going on, it is really starting to look like you are getting on the home stretch.
@@soupclassicmotoring If you look at grass every 10 minutes you won't see any change. But look at it with a week or two gap and you will! Take a look at what it was like when you started, compared to now, & you will get the satisfying revelation of just how much you have achieved!
Hey George, I stumbled upon your channel whilst searching "Ranger Rover Classic", and boy am I glad I did. Quite frankly, best automotive channel on RUclips fella. While I am not doing a restoration, I can totally resonate with the challenge of time commitments and deadlines; my wife always wants to know how long car repairs will go and my accuracy is about 30%. On another note, the progress here was just awesome and I am glad it isn't done yet so we can see your work :)
Great vid as ever Sir. Running a late 90's Honda as a daily driver rust fills my waking nightmares 😄 and I have personally found the best anti rust goo for the job is the Bilt Hamber stuff. The wax will flow in sub zero temps. On previous jalopies I used Waxoyl which was grand, but a curse by comparison to apply in anything but very warm conditions. And as we know "warm" in Ireland is often just above hyperthermia weather. With free damp.No wonder we have so many redheads, even hair rusts here. 😄
Actually got it because it came with a rivet gun, if you've ever riveted the boot floor into a RRC you'll know why. Got an inflation set too. That's the real winner, being able to inflate literally anything around the house, and having the air duster too. The lance almost worked, someone in the know suggested a larger bore hose to the gun would probably make the difference.

@@soupclassicmotoring hahaha! Did I miss an episode, was it the cost, that you moved from your unit? I fix all my cars on the driveway, and my workshop is a utility room about 5 ft by 8ft, and is shared by a washing machine and tumble dryer, and what looks like a Chinese laundry!
George, I think your problem with the compressor is that you can’t flow enough volume. This is caused by the hose which I suspect is 1/4”. I upgraded to a 200 litre compressor from something the size of what you have and was still having problems. I eventually found out that the Aldi air hose I was using was only 1/4” and to run anything meaningful from an air compressor you need 1/2” hose. Hope that morsel helps you out and saves you the expense of a new compressor. There are still some limitations to a small compressor like that but you should at least be able to get the cavity waxing done.
George, your welds have gotten so much better over time! But I clinge everytime I see the surface rust and how you leave bare metal in the wet. You might be able to clean it from the outside, the visible surfaces. But it is still rusting from the inside. So it is like a ticking bomb until you see new holes from rust. It’s painful to see that so much work might wventually go to waste. Best of luck anyway!
It'll be what it is mate, it was light surface rust on the outside so questionable on the inside. This car is a learning car, there have been lessons a plenty and there'll no doubt be more.
