According to estimates strikes at GM & Ford would cost the company $5 billion per week. The workers are the ones who generate ALL the wealth for these companies. Let the CEO go out and assemble cars and create $5 billion dollars a week.
They can afford to pay the CEO a 40% increase, but they can't afford to pay their workers as much as they did in 2007...hmm. Those record profits can go towards the employees doing the work and providing the value. Corporations need to stop overpaying their CEOs and other upper management.
Go ahead and negotiate those pay raises, but 40 hours of pay for a 32 hour week is a non-starter. How about 40 hours of pay for 40 hours of work, like the rest of us have to do.
@@cmc5394oparvahow about you fight with us then we all help your industry get the same. Wherever you work, I would like you to get full pay for a 32 hour work week. I’m almost 100% positive that will make your entire life better
New car prices and sales have bottomed out. No one is buying. Auto makers need to create a demand to sell their current inventory. This strike, stopping production, will create that demand. So who does it hurt? Automakers could ride this out for weeks.
Fun Fact : Chris Farley from SNL is Jim Farley's cousin. Jim is of course the current CEO of Ford Motor Company, which makes Tommy Boy a little more close to home.
I guess I will buy more TSLA shares tomorrow morning if this strike happens. And maybe some GM & F puts. Short-term and long-term expirations. I saw unions put Mcdonnell Douglas out of business in St. Louis. GM for sure was already struggling. F was doing ok but this could hamstring it. Good thing the USA has a healthy non-union auto company to keep us ok through all of this; Tesla.
People who live in the rust belt probably could care less about the big 3.They left our cities and moved their operations leaving behind decrepit buildings.
They were offered a 20% raise over 4 years and rejected it. I worked as a skilled machinist for 30 years and I never got a 5% raise. Not once. If they told me I was getting 5% a year for the next 4 years I would have crapped myself. I was lucky to get any kind of a raise. 1%? Thank you sir, may I have another? The union is being greedy. They’re going to cause problems for the whole economy due to greed. That sucks. Let them walk out and hopefully not come back.
Why? There are plenty of other brands to choose from that are not strike targets: Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, Acura, Lexus, Infinity, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes. No one has to buy from the big 3.
Car prices have consistently went up year over year since they started selling cars. These companies claim labor as being there biggest or one of there biggest costs . We'll Maybe it is, I've worked for Chrysler for 25 years. I would never complain about my job or the money I make because we have Been blessed for years but the fact is in 2008 when the market crashed I was making 29.00 an hr. Here it is some 15 years later . I'm making 31.50 . Now you can't tell me the price of cars hasn't went up 50% in the last 15 years or close to it. My wages sure haven't lol
This advice is mostly for YOUNG people in their 20s. Obtain job SKILLS such that you are VALUABLE in the market place. Yes. This can be hard to do when you are working 40 hours a week in an auto factory. Take some night classes at a community college. Consider getting into the trades, etc. ALSO, Learn how to handle your money. SAVE your money and when you have enough money for a down payment then BUY a home and DON'T rent. When you are 65 then it is much better to have a PAID OFF HOUSE versus renting. Stay away from drugs and alcohol. IF you are a parent with kids still in grade and high school then do whatever it takes to instill personal responsibility to acquire job skills. You want your kids to have a better life than you have.
That would be the best solution if they paid people enough to do those things. People that work in these shops, especially temps, barely make enough to eat, rent/mortgage, and drive to work. Most can’t even afford the cars they make, let alone college. Once everyone of these workers gets paid more, they’ll have the means to improve their lives
Stop asking others to fix your problems. Live within your means. Take the damn bus or walk to work if need be. More money doesn’t solve the problem, people will just find ways to spend it.
@@hoapres it’s doable for younger people like myself. I have no kids and just typical mortgage, and bills. If they’re that worried about bankruptcy how about they make the CEOs give back those 20+ millions? They have over 100 execs in each company that make multi millions, but the union will push it to bankruptcy… right.
@STELLAR_PRIME these companies not only won't give us a piece of the pie but don't want us to have a bite, I called in sick today n have no sick days left, they make me sick
@tedtimberson4262 a piece of the pie is a huge chunk of that fiat currency we earned for them. Big three CEOs make $20million per year each, while Volkswagens ceo is the next highest at $9mil. They make 2-3x more than the big three and they pay their CEOs 2-3x less. They are being greedy scumbags

No.! The companies would just send the work to Mexico and overseas. 40% raise and 32 Jr week? Get real!

300,000 for each employee??!!!! THE LIES THIS GUY TELLS!! it will not be 300,000 a year for none of us with that 40% raise.
