Nice Jeep, Addie! That heat shrink with the built-in sealer is super cool!!! I need to get some of that! Awesome job as always, John. I was with you on the excitement of the gauges coming to life! I thought it was cool that you mentioned cleaning the connector blades first off. A similar thing occurs with old pinball machines. When they stop working the problem is most often oxidized connectors. Clean 'em and wala! WOOT! =)
@meinbherpieg4723 Yep, I showed the issue in another video, but I found a broken wire, pink with white trailer, coming out of the bottom of the relay box under the hood. It feeds all the power to the gauges.
Ok, first great video! I don't even have a gauge problem on my 97 but I watched anyways, and thank God I did. I have the same thing wrong with my power distribution block clips and I have it basically taped together and it did not even occur to me to strap it down like that! Thank you good sir I feel like an idiot 🤣
I have a 97 Wrangler. Besides it almost never starting on the first try, lately so within the last month, my battery connection has been iffy, my headlights stopped working, and my gauges have been acting super trippy. sometimes not working at all, other times jumping around. All my cluster lights are acting funny too. I'll be checking this. Thank you for the info!
If radio is inop as well check IOD fuse in the under hood fuse compartment. Mine was blown and radio and instrument cluster were not operating ,only lights and turn signal worked before repair! Thanks! Cheers!
Hello, I have a problem with my 97 Jeep Wrangler TJ. The cluster does not indicate anything, no speed, rpm, gas, or mileage, but the cluster lights come on and I have not been able to fix it.
I have a 1997 TJ 4 cylinder and was having problems with the gauges. I took the dash out and cleaned everything. It did not change anything. While playing with the interior fuse box behind the glove box I pulled the right air bag fuse(there are two air bag fuses) and the gauges all started working and have worked since. The fuse looked good but I replaced it with a new one and they stopped working again. So I pulled the fuse and have left it out and everything is fine now.
Jim thanks so much man. Mine had been broken for 6+ years. It’s a 97 tj 6 cylinder sport. I took out BOTH airbag fuses and now they work!. Did you figure out a more permanent solution?
@@WillLockwoodStudios I replaced my alternator and put the right fuse back in and it did not affect the gauges. Both fuses are in and gauges are working fine.
@@jimdowns2957 hmm ok. At the moment I just leave the fuses out. I think it may be my airbag module because there airbag light has been on ever since the gauges stopped

@@C3ModsNow that you mentioned that I've seen that same style radio fail many times in Chrysler vehicles over the years! Good show!
Mine was a burnt wire behind the fuse box behind the glove compartment
Good info! Hope it helps others!!
I went 5 years searching trouble shooting
@ omg! That’s insane! I had a similar issues with my AC, loose wire in the connector. Took me two years!
@ I keep a gas can in my jeep
