    One slight tip coming from a life long martial artist, make sure your shoulder is packed, ie feel your lats engage, this will let you use your back, pelvic girdle and legs properly and deliver maximum power with minimal effort. Good video bud!

      Lean into your punches at the shoulder by pivoting your body. It will engage your back muscles rather than just your arms.

    • @chevytruckjoe
      @chevytruckjoe 5 месяцев назад

      @@brandondang7156 quick analogy I would give to my younger students, think of your shoulder girdle as a ice cream cone and your shoulder muscles as the ice cream, release the tension and let it melt into place.. ie the only time you should be under tension is the moment of impact. This will let your body flow without putting the breaks in ie tension. Also when the shoulder is relaxed and in its proper place it facilitates the connection to the lats, which connects your back and core muscles which in turn allows you to connect your core, hips and legs. Ie hit with your whole body not just your shoulders if you are disconnected.

    Two of my friends who I have taught to throw a proper punch were able to defend themselves and it altered their life paths. One guy demolished his bully in front of everyone who was picking on him in highschool and it lowered his stress immensely. For any younger guys out there (I'm 31) PLEASE learn how to punch and be realistic. If you take Karate, make sure you get some realistic sparring in and know what to do if you get rushed. Also, adrenaline will make your arms feel like noodles: This is normal. Training wrestling where you can go a bit harder with your friends/dojo buddies will get your adrenaline up and you'll learn to control it.
    One of my friends had his house broken into by a guy and instantly put him into a rear naked choke I taught him (this guy is a comedic frumpy dude) and managed to choke the guy out who mangled his door. I could go on for hours about this but suffice to say it's important to learn the basics. Don't be afraid of sparring. Gym bullies are rare and you're surrounded by people who can help you.
    One last piece of advice from my dad which mirrors Scheereddzz advice: Make sure you get the first hit in.

    Like you said its better not to start fights and keep your distance from unecessary conflict. However if your only option is to fight, remember that the street is not a ring. Make sure you are close enough to land an elbow on your opponents face and then leave the scene. Don't go for combos. Street fights dont have to be longer than 5-10 seconds, a good elbow to the face will either stun or out-right knock someone out.

    Black belt here. Don't punch the face/head. It doesn't work like the movies. Bare knuckles to the skull or teeth, especially unconditioned knuckles, will break your hands. Always strike the head with the bottom of your palm or edge of the open hand. Back of the head above the neck is the most vulnerable spot (banned in most MMA comps).
    If your opponent is bigger than you, close in the distance to mitigate his advantage, if your opponent is shorter, keep distance to preserve your advantage.
    And unless you're some elite level genetic freak who dedicates his entire life to fighting, you WILL lose against multiple opponents for a long fight.
    And always try to leverage your surroundings (bottles, rocks, chairs..)
