  • On June 15, 2009, Joanne Witt was found stabbed to death in her California home. As a murder investigation ensued, authorities learned the woman was living with her 14-year-old daughter, Tylar Witt, and the girl's boyfriend, 19-year-old Steven Colver. But the teens were nowhere to be found when the grim discovery was made.

RIP Joanne. It is so sad that we do not realize how important our parents are as we were teenagers. I remember my dad always being a little overprotective of me. He was like a helicopter dad. I hated him for it. But as a grown adult and seeing the ugliness of the world now, I completely understand him now. Thank you Sav for your coverage. Do you ever plan on being on podcast row at Crimecon? CrimeCon this year was amazing. You should of been there!

I see so many cases exactly like these and it just baffles me how a girl can be manipulated to the point where she lets a man kill her mother! I was personally in a similar situation where I was 17 dating a man twice my age and he would say little things about the overprotectiveness of my mom, but he could’ve never drove me to draw up a plan to hurt her! so sad to hear 😡

I think Tyler is just as responsible as Steven. I don't care who actually stabbed her, I think that they were both in on it together. I think that they both should have got life in prison.

Tyler was Definitely the mastermind! Tyler was angry at her mom because she had turned Steven into the police and gave them the diary. Joanne was just protecting Tyler. I can't imagine how terrified Joanne must have been to realize that her daughter and Steven were going to murder her. Also, how devastating for Joanne's family to find out that Tyler and Steven are the reason she's not here.

And she lied a couple times. Tyler kills or helps her mom, and now she's a free person. That doesn't make sense...smh

I remember watching this case in an episode of the documentary series Killer Kids and it's shocking of what happened to Joanne and what Tyler and Steven did to her.
Also both of them should never have been dating due to Tyler being 14 and Steven being 19 and this reminds me of the case about Jasmine Richardson since she as a 12 year old dated a 23 year old man.
I'd like to see you cover the case about Skylar Neese since what happened to her is really tragic and also the case about Ben Kinsella too.

Steven groomed Tyler, the age difference is illegal for a reason - child & adult, plain wrong. Steven therefore clearly isn’t of good character nor can he be trusted, Tyler in her own words can’t be trusted, & both had a rage against Joanne. Steven being off the streets is no bad thing but the idea that someone who thinks & behaves in the way Tyler does, lies & is willing to at the very least plan & ignore her mothers murder, to think she can be on the streets before the age of even 40, & be able to hurt others in whatever way is truly a scary thought. Far too lenient of a sentence for her.

When I was 16 I was dating a 26 years old.. My parents were against it ofc, and I hated them for that but I would never in million years think about hurting them..
That relationship was a big school for me, I ran away to live with him, we ended up being together for 3 years, my parents accepted him eventualy.. Sadly he died of cancer, few years after we broke up, but he was my best friend to the last day..
But again, I would never think about doing something to my mom because of a man, you only get one mom in life and man are countless damn

for someone who had an amazing childhood, she sure talks about committing suicide a lot. i want to know why she was legit taken from her mom as a child. i doubt whatever the reason was just went away on its own. it goes without saying that this isn’t a pass to murder but i wonder if it contributed at all

Her mom slapped her when she kept fussing screaming just wilding out when she was little the slap
marked her face and they called cps on her & they took Tyler away from her for 6 months . She got her back but she suffered a lot the mom

Defensive wounds + Steven's DNA under her fingernails. I think Tyler was telling the truth that she orchestrated it but Steve did the stabbing. The amount of stab wounds did make me think it's Tyler but maybe they did drugs before so that might explain the amount of stab wounds. But then again, Steve sounded obsessed, he might've really hated Joanne enough.

The most lost custody because when Tyler was little at one point she started fussing screaming she wouldn’t stop so her mom smacked her & that left a mark on Tyler’s face so they called the cps on the mom Tyler was taken for 6 months , the mother suffered alot so Tyler always been a brattt even when she was little smh

Hy, Savannah, I would ask you (to ask yourself) why your storytelling work is called "Killer Instinct", why the Hoodies are named "Classic Stay Killer Hoodie", and why the Promo Code mentioned in this episode is also called Killer, with capitals.
Isn't it already too much killing in this world?
I see only a purpose for these horrible stories - to let us learn something, if there is something to be learned. Because otherwise, it seems to me that killing is used to attract an audience, which is, no offense, not sane for both parties - the storyteller and the audience. It is so disappointing that some human beings are attracted to killing stories just for the thrill, and it would be so sad for a storyteller to use murder stories in any other way than to drive an audience to be more careful in their life. Therefore, I would choose other names for a promo code, clothes, and for the channel, constructive ones. If some characters in these stories are not sane, being attracted to killing (?), we should not be like them, should we? "We became what our thoughts are".
Of course, it is your choice, but I would meditate on these aspects. Thanks for what I learned, best wishes to you!
