I'm more interested in a Canoo truck than I am anything else on the horizon. If I could get a crew cab version with 4 doors, that would be ideal. Otherwise, the Ford Lightning is also looking likely.

I have been trying to get somebody with Canoo to actually take my ideas serious. I am a truck guy and have been for years. I know how truck people think and how we use our trucks.
Canoo needs to stretch their skate board out another 12 inches and it would bring them into serious competition with a broad range of truck manufacturers.
They need to go from 112 inches up to 124 inches of wheel base. That 1 foot adds more battery space and could allow them to increase the cab size more and still have some pickup box left to start with.
I own a 2021 Silverado double cab with a 6.5 foot box. I love that truck but would give it up in a heart beat for the Canoo pickup if they could just change it slightly to get it up into the 1/2 ton range of specs.
I don't want a true crew cab for just me but I like a little in cab storage behind the seats to make my truck more usable year round.
124 inch wheel base makes it better for towing stability also.
112 inch wheel base is just to short to even get into the midsized truck realm. It is shorter than a ford ranger or chevy colorado and many others.
124 inch wheel base would fix it for many people and many reasons. 😁

@@desertdan100 i completely agree, however they have to prove themselves with their base models before they expand into territory that competes with a traditional pickup truck. If they can pull off just getting production off the ground and fulfill contract orders while selling civilian vehicles that will give them the pulse to find a niche in the ev market. I feel their initial concepts were striking enough to get me, an old petrol head, to get excited. I hope they can get production into hyperdrive. I have 4000 shares, so I want to see them succeed.

    • @desertdan100
      @desertdan100 Год назад +1

@@theshapeexists I also have shares in them. I am selfish I guess. I saw the truck and fell in love. I am an older jeep guy who has a soft spot for the old FC Jeeps and Econoline vans.
Their mini van is a brilliant idea for many use cases. The range is a little low but for around town and a big city use it would be great.
For a mail delivery route or similar small package route it would be awesome.
Right now though, the first workable electric trucks to market from anyone in any amount are going to make a killing.
Notice I said workable. IE usable and practical.
I kept telling everyone I know that the Ford Maverick was going to be a hit for that niche that has been way underserved for years.
Canoo could be the first manufacturer to hit that sweet spot that the first Dodge Dakotas hit many years ago.
I bought one of the first ones that were sold in my area in the Midwest. A was farming at that time and caught hell from everyone that new me for about 6 months.
As they learned more about it and saw what I could do with it attitudes changed.
I was using a smaller truck that could do everything a 1/2 ton truck could do but got way better gas mileage and was cheaper to maintain.
It had a 2500 lb payload and could tow around 6000 to 7000 lbs.
one day I hauled 36 bundles of asphalt shingles back home to re-roof my building and a neighbor stopped by. He could not believe it.
The truck was squatting but I still had an 1.5 inches to the axle bumpers going down the road. 🙂

Here's my situation... I currently have orders with dealers for:
    - 2023 Ford Lighting
    - 2023 Hyundai Kona EV
They were placed 9 and 5 months ago respectively, but neither have seen any progress (which is why I have both orders, kind of a game of wait and see...) The F150 ticks boxes for me because there weren't really any larger EV SUVs on the market in 2021/22 when we started looking at EVs which could fill the role that my Kia Sorento currently does in terms of internal space and towing. I would certainly consider an EV minivan (or similar) but there really haven't been any decent options. I used to own a Honda Odyssey and loved it for the build quality, the drive, and the space. The Chrysler Pacifica is a non-starter for me as my extended family had a few Chrysler vehicles over the years and the were sadly the least reliable cars and vans anyone drove. So that leaves ... not a lot. Here are other vehicles I'm also following while waiting on the two orders above...
    - Canoooooooo (duh)
    - Rivian R1S / R1T (love them, but too expensive in Canada)
    - VW ID.4 (almost as big as the Sorento, plus can tow with top package, reasonably priced)
    - VW ID.Buzz (love the fresh look, but from early reviews this seems like it would be better to wait until they work out some of the bugs)
    - Volvo EX90 (just announced, but don't have pricing info yet - but based on the XC40 Recharge pricing vs. the regular 40, I presume the EX90 will nudge the $100K mark in Canada)
This list runs the spectrum, but given the fact that auto makers are finally starting to fulfill orders and it seems the EV landscape is bringing more options to market, I'm excited to see what is announced in the next two years to hit the streets in the next five.
Ideally, I'd love a Tacoma EV... it's one of my fave ICE vehicles, but I still find it bizarre that Toyota and Honda have been so slow to offer mainstream EVs.

    • @GearboxPizza
      @GearboxPizza  Год назад

Christian! Happy New Years my dude! Anyway.. My daily is a Tacoma now, and an EV version would be just awesome, but you're right, both Toyota and Honda somehow didn't see this EV thing coming somehow? Anyway, the Lightning is awesome, not cheap, but awesome and I think your summery on the other options are spot on... Rivian is just way too much cheddar, and I dig the EX90, but fear it'll be way out of my price range.
My dream is to have either the Canoo Pickup, or the "Adventure" version of the van with all/4 wheel drive and some offroad chops..

Even the Lightning is a massive investment, but it seems that everything I'm considering is north of $75K. 😭 It's crazy to see EV versions being nearly double their ICE counterparts.
I just wish companies would announce the stuff that I want so I could make an informed decision on my vehicle future. Is that too much to ask?!

    • @GearboxPizza
      @GearboxPizza  Год назад

Yea. you're totally right... If you think about it, this might be one of the most confusing times to try to buy a car/truck/suv for all the reasons you've listed. I turned in my lease about 4 months ago and have been driving the Tacoma daily as I still have no idea what to get... and probably like yourself, I spend way way way way too much time researching and "building" things online.
To be honest, I might wait this out for a year or two.. my pal just finished building his 1967 pontiac lemans, and now I'm thinking class muscle car while the market stabilizes.. ahh, who knows.. I change my mind twice a day at least. But I'd buy the Canoo Pickup in a hearbeat right now.. even at a premium.

Thanks for posting. I'm interested in the Canoo, but some of what makes it unique is breaking the deal for me. The square wheel and the "lounge" area are gimmicky. I would have put a deposit on one if it had more traditional seats and a round steering wheel. I currently have a Transit Connect, but wish it was just a little longer for camping in. Great for hauling my family and luggage. How do you do that with the Canoo? Your cargo would be sliding around in the center. Any cargo is easy to see by thieves sitting in the middle. The price is reasonable compared to the I.D. Buzz, which is what I am looking at, but I want to like the Canoo.

I doubt I would want a truck with less than a full crew cab though, so I’m hoping Canoo will announce a crew version this year. I noticed Ram kind of taking advantage of its late to market position to stuff their concept truck full of most every idea everyone else has already put forward (love the idea of the pass-thru to the frunk that would let you carry say a 16’ 2x12 out of the way inside the truck). Please give us a true crew cab Canoo.

Nothing against VW, but that model simply does not face a chance against a Canoo in an MMA match.
Hydrogen, (H) makes cars piss. The expense is large, and it pisses out of the back. So... why do it?
I've always said to people to own a bicycle, a petrol auto, an EV, and a hybrid. All bases covered.
My recommendation would be looking at Lexus as a hybrid for a future one. Apologies for not being as humorous as I try, but it's been a bad day. You know how to contact me. It wasn't a big issue, so no worries.

The Ioniq 7 seems like the most legitimate competitor. Hyundai has sort of stolen the EV crown from Tesla in a lot of ways. The Ioniq 5 is just the most cutting-edge while still reasonably affordable thing I know of. And the 7 is gonna have a lot of interior space, and clever design elements, as well as just a bizarre exterior . It's just a concept right now, so there's a few years before it will actually be a thing. Canoo still has the advantage.

I am invested in Canoo and think their van is a stroke of genius. I love the truck but it needs some tweaking to bring it up into the realm of midsized or just step into the 1/2 ton truck market with an extended wheel base version and decent tow and payload capacities. It needs to compete with the current Chevy Silverado but does not need to sit as high. The lower load height comparable to a Honda Ridgeline would make it more usable.

I’m looking at the Toyota Sienna for price and being a reliable hybrid. My next choice would be something like the Ford Transit or Maverick. If the Canoo really existed at a reasonable price, I’d be all over it. Still, Canoo is just a con, they’ll never build it.

Edge case. How about the Morris Commercial JE electric van?
As for the ID Buzz. I would think $45-50k is probably correct. UK pricing is super high. Just look at Tesla. Take the price you pay in the USA and then add another 30-35% for the UK price. It's a mix of TAX and companies gouging people who just want the latest thing.

I'm a long time fan of oddball cars. Loved my VW bug back in the day and always wanted an electric VW bus but gotta say not impressed with the buzz. I currently own a Tesla X (we also have a model 3 and a leaf and used to have an i3...been years since we have owned an ICE) and in the market for my next EV either Van or Truck. I have a pre-order on the Cybertruck but honestly loving the look of the canoo much more. Was also interested in the Rivian quite a bit but price kept increasing drastically. What's holding me back on the canoo? The range. pure and simple. and this is coming from a long time EV driver. I had the I3 and we currently have a leaf...so I'm used to low range cars. BUT when I get an adventure vehicle (which is what the next one is for, either truck or adventure van) it needs to actually get me to the far off places! I hike in the mountains A LOT. I need a car that can get me there and not die while I'm out hiking and leave me stranded (I live in New England so we are talking real winters). So if they can fix the range issue - I'm sold for sure!!

I think the bus does have a chance in the State side! I think if they get the range up to 400 range, and 120mph it will do really well,! I do like the Canoo tho! It's cooler but the BUS looks good too! Honda is just HONDA one of the best production vehicles out there! I think they might wait just a little bit to see what options come out, but if they add a cooler in the Van! Well that's going to be the Best ever Honda yet!

Canoo is still far away from delivering any vehicles. Not so long ago they were almost bankrupt. Untill they ‘ll start producing and delivering to customers, there’s no point of speculating on anything.
We’ve seen so many promissing EV car makers vanishing before being able to produce any of them.
    Wait and see…
