Guard Retention 💪 1:17 Torenado -> Butterfly Sweep 3:25 Circle -> 1st Spider Sweep & 2nd Lasso Sweep 6:14 Over Under -> Sit up Back Take 9:22 North South -> Guard Recovery
"dont frame on the hips", literary what i do every time they come in for the side control when passing my guard. helps to get some pointers on how to capture the arm, thanks!
Noted for revisits: Guard Retention VS Torreando, Over-Under, and North-South passes ----- VS Torreando Pass 1:25 Framing on the opponent's near-side arm (wrist, elbow, or tricep - NOT shoulder) instead of the hip, to prevent crossface 1:59 Frame on the opponent's head, shrimp out/bridge, and bring their head to the same side of their body (to prevent them from controlling our hips) 2:14 Stiff arm their head, and build up on our bottom arm to return to guard Sweeps 2:19 Butterfly sweep 4:16 Spider sweep 4:58 Between-the-leg Lasso sweep 5:27 Traditional Lasso sweep ----- VS Over-Under Pass 6:20 Avoid stiff-arming 7:00 Post our foot on the floor, frame on the opponent's head, shrimp out/bridge, and bring their head to the same side of their body (all while monitoring the opponent's crossface arm) 7:10 Control the opponent's posture to be low to the ground, and situp into back take OR 7:59 Stiff arm their head, and scoot away to open guard ----- VS North-South Pass 9:35 Once again AVOID framing on the opponent's hip. Instead, catch the near arm, and bring their arm across their body 9:40 Crunch up and rotate to re-guard, leading with our knee ---- TLDR: Key Points 1. Instead of framing against the opponent's hips, frame against their NEAR-SIDE CROSS FACE ARM instead. 2. Stiff arm the opponent's head, and bring it to the same side (to prevent them from controlling your hips)
I love guard retention, probably the most difficult and important skill in jiu jitsu, easily my favorite gi based channel on the whole RUclips Reminds me of how Maia teaches guard retention
Great details on the guard retention: I will try it against my younger classmates: I’m the oldest in my academy so I have to learn ways to keep my guard ; Thank you 🙏 putting video I’m sure it will make a difference: OSS
Thank you so much, Marcos. You're content has helped my game more than anyone else. Seems I've been doing a few things wrong for 2 yrs now. I will do my best to change my ways from today.
Pure gold ... also instead of counter sweeps there is attacks on the arm which try to block the hip.. if is still there armbars, omoplata even triangle..thank you very much for this tip!
These tutorials are amazing, we are incredibly lucky to get such high level teaching for free! A few years back i bought your lasso series on bjj fanatics which is how I came to find you on youtube. I quit Bjj at brown in 2017 and then came back for 9 months in 2023 only to have an inguinal hernia, now im 6 month post surgery and determined to keep training and get my black. These instructionals are massively helpful!! You have my utmost thanks and respect for putting these together, merry Christmas!!
Force application, in this case torque due to rotational motion, is greatest when your opponent is perpendicular (head opposite) to your body as opposed to parallel(head same side). τ=r⋅F⋅sin(θ), where at θ= 90 is 1 and θ=0 is 0. Ultimately their based is disrupted as a consequences and your rotational movement (sweep) can initiate a new set of dilemmas. Great video and insight on head position Marcos! Big Oss!!
On the pass to N/S since you have his arm across the body, can you spin the other way to dump him? This is such a great post, Marcos. Osss! Thank you very much for all the A+ content.
What are the drills to strengthen our guard. For example if we play lasso/de lareva/x guard/single leg x, what should we do to make all mentioned is strong.
@@sitinurulainabdaziz1186 I would say spend more time on the position and understand where you are weak and where you are strong this will help you so much strengthen your guard. BIG OSS
