Glad you got it diagnosed and addressed properly! Have to listen to your body and take care of it. As much as I’m a huge fan and subscriber and anxiously await all your videos, I don’t believe you ever owe me anything. You’re inspiring because you’re a person, not some inanimate video creation machine. You’re one of the reasons I’ve fallen in love with skating again. I’d rather Bill Stoppard the person be healthy and happy than satiate my needs for more dope skating vids! Sending healing thoughts ❤️🩹
Wishing you a swift recovery Bill, you were the one who inspired me to buy my first pair of proper skates at 50 years old, I’m just waiting for 3torn disks in my back to heal before I can get started on my skating journey for real. Stay strong my friend, stay strong and stay low! 😉. Peace!
Pushing 50 here as well, and always inspired by Bill Our bodies are healing miracles, you can do this Ian. Thanks Bill for taking care, and for ruining my day with the thought of watching CSI Healing vibes and best wishes to all! Yup, stay low and strong :)
Get well Bill, of course we miss you, but that's because we love you and your contribution to skate culture. Stay positive, until you can stay low once more.
How scary that must have been! I hope your leg is fully recovered soon. Have a look at turmeric latte recipes and if you can take arnica tablets after your treatment is complete. Ana Day
Health first Bill. I empathize, I’ve got a nasty high and lateral sprain right now and sitting on the couch watching shit TV is definitely torture on top of it all 😂 wishing you a speedy recovery!
Hang in there, Bill. Just bought a new pair of Powerslide Next 90 after 20 years of blading. been watching your videos everyday, Enjoyed watching scenes of Toronto and your trademark stops. Take your time to recover, no hurry to get back out there, although I know it’s tough. Hang tough 💪
Hope your getting well. I have a side question, I use to be an Ice Hockey player, back in 1980 in the UK, Blackpool seagulls, and now I live in Hong Kong, I am relearning to skate inline, got some basic memory, but now starting to build some personal confidence, and also being 60 adds to the challenge, all that said. I have a wide foot, and flatter Arch, and my Hockey skates gave me pain in the arch, solved with some hacks, do you have any experience with any boot producer that has a wider foot boot for better comfort? one way or another, ill be city skating Hong kong, so stand by for those videos. lol
Wow ... We are similar you and I 😁👍😅 . I too got cellulitis in my arm , from a finger and up the arm it spread . I just went to the doctors , they gave me antibiotics and fixed in 3 days . Seems like your medical system is convoluted or difficult at best . I know just wish I was similar in my skating ability 😅👍😁😜😂
As a doctor I have to tell you that the cellulitis most probably comes from your already mentioned pressure points from overly tightening or repetitive constriction forces. The actual microbe/bacteria probably got inseminated by distance in this low blood and nutrients supply area. Please mark the area out with a marker or some pen around the whole red skin area and observe the evolution. If it doesn’t get better within 3 days then the doctors need to escalate your antibiotics. You might also want to help your immunity with some vitamin C, D, and some quality protein and fats. Many fruits have antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties. I wish you well Bill!
Stay positive Bill, you will be ok, dont surrender it is only some bad days but you will be skating again soon, be pacient and rest inthese hard days. all the good bibrations for you Regards Bill
Ooh! Ooh! Perhaps this presents an opportunity for a video on rehab from injury? It's a slow torture in itself not being able to get right back into your old ways once you feel better, but i'm sure you know ways to mitigate chances of an injury recurring. Also holy cow, that was tense, i was dreading the moment you'd turn around and say "so yeah they had to cut my foot off"
Hope your on the mend. Get some Derma 500 to put on your skin before and after skating. Its and anti microbial. Used it myself and partner used it on his. legs when he had the same condition as you. Really soothed the itch and had a cooling effect.
Speedy recovery and healing Bill! Happy to hear the worst is over. Hope your foot gets back to its’ perfect skatable condition soon! Lucky you’ve had sweet little Ernie looking after you so well! 🖤
You look pale in picture Bill, knowing things are getting better hope you get full recovery soon. I guess it time for you to take a break pal, my parents once told me nothing in life is more important that a good health body, take care of yourself, see you back on your skates soon can’t wait …..😎🛼🛼
So many warm wishes from BSS viewers! Please consider supporting BSS on Patreon. For the price of a single wheel ($1/month for 1 year), you can help Bill continue creating brilliant inline content.
Bill. Would love to see an episode on wheel alignment. i notice your skates somtimes dont look true, and though, how do you set the wheels centre to your posture. and is there any tips.
Sorry to hear about your struggles, Bill. It sure doesn’t take much to make you feel vulnerable, right? The truth is, it can happen to any of us at any time. I started wearing ankle additional ankle padding a while back to take better care of them - I’d like to continue using them for a while! Wishing you a speedy recovery, Bill. Take it easy! 👍
Swift recovery! A loved one of mine had a similar situation on her face by her nose and was misdiagnosed the first round at the ER like you and it got worse, until she went to a derm who figured itnout thankfully. I'm happy you were your own advocate and got the care you needed! We all know doctors are busy and do their best but they are not infallible, it's important we are our own best advocates 💕
I feel your pain, 6 years ago my JRT scrapped my leg with his dewclaw and I didn't think much about it. within 48 hours I was delirious and my wife insisted I went to A&E (I was just going to sleep it off) the first 12 hours in emergency was keeping me alive and the next 12 was keeping my leg. I got lucky and after 13 days of smashing my system with aggressive antibiotics (3 IV bags 4 times a day) I was home and on the way to full recovery. Keep your chin up and I hope you will be fully healed soon. God bless and good luck :)
Brother i can totally relate. Its been 2 months of no posting due to an injury. This foot looks so painful, glad you figured out what it was. Take all the time you need and heal. Happy Holidays, wishing you the Best 🤙
Sports injuries are the worst; while I was in the relearning curve I injured my hamstring and sat it out for about 2 month. Give it rest time, I guaranty what you have built will be hard to lose. 👍💪
I live across the lake from Bill. A common theme I have encountered with the doctors in my area is they fail to recognize inline skating as a legitimate sport. It's so niche it doesn't compute. I go to my ortho when I hurt cause the xrays are super cheap, he's thorough, but because of its niche nature, he has near zero sports medince input. He does think I'm going die or get seriously injured by default 🙄🤣
Can't wait for the London footage B. I completely beasted D.C. in your honor today, it was my most intense skate yet, miles of smashing streets and sidewalks. See you out there soon, you fucking legend.
Dude! 😱. Right now focus on getting well. I hope you will be skating soon but without rush. Thanks for sharing and I really wish for your fast recovery.
Get well Bill. Glad to hear it's clearing up. Take your time with the London vid, we're up in Cambridge and were gutted we couldn't make it, I broke my pinky toe, put paid to that or any skating for a couple of weeks. Yeah, it's hellish having to wait to skate. All the best man.
This guy get me skating 4 weeks ago.. every videos are always a true inspirational video. I really Hope you get well soon.. I just learn to free ride skate just to feel your the look on your video, Really. And I also started to make video just like you. skate soon. I'll keep learning from you..
Greetings from New Zealand. Long time viewer/subscriber of yours and I try and watch every new vid when it comes out but yes, did wonder where you went. Man, glad it wasn't worse but the thing that really bugs me about how this all played out is the misdiagnosis! I mean, I'm not a doctor and don't know if it's easy enough to mistake one thing for another but you were given medication for the wrong thing. Anyways, just a rant but glad you're on the up and up!
Bill having gout is almost laughably unlikely. Basically far persons disease high always. Surprised they would misdiagnosed that. Glad you're getting that straightened out take care of yourself man, no super rush back to the skates, see ya when you're better
I've had two staph infections and they move fast so the faster you get them treated makes all the difference. The second one I got I treated really quickly and it was 1/10 the pain and trouble of the first one.
Hey Bill, wishing you a speedy recovery. You’re mental health sounds frail from this ordeal. I know how I get when I have a limitation that I can’t help that stops me from pursuing or performing my passion. It’s scary and it takes a toll. No matter what age. Best wishes to you and just letting you know you’ve been my inspiration to get back to skating in my later years. I missed it terribly.
Take good care of yourself Bill, The skates will be there waiting for you to wreck havoc in Toronto's streets when you are ready! Wish you the best from Israel! :)
10yr+ Registered Nurse here. I skate because of you. I can't thank you enough for that feeling. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I have two warnings to give you. 1)The amount of antibiotics you had to take to make the infection go away can set you up for tendon tears. It's healthy to load them -- but I would seriously consider ~70% effort to be my max for 3 months. Absolutely get out and skate, but please be careful with jumps, sprints and weightlifting. For now, quit when you've still got some in the tank. 2) Cellulitis can get in the bone. It's called osteomyelitis. If in 4-6 weeks your foot is still tender on loading or you have a persistent low grade fever you can't explain - tell them you want them to rule out osteomyelitis, if they're weird about that just ask for a CBC and Xray to ease your mind. Take this with a grain of salt. Remember, I'm some rando on the internet that cares about you but barely knows what's going on. Listen to your doctor, and above all listen to your body. Thanks for sharing Bill! Thanks for giving me my winged feet!
I feel you brother. I went through hell after my pelvis->wrist bone graft 3 years ago. I couldn't imagine I would be skating again. I'm sure you will recover like me. Stay strong, see you in Toronto one day 😉
Honestly i don't understand those people who let their dogs walk around with their ears inside out. All that aside, I'm glad they finally figured out what it was. I hope you make a quick and full recovery! Thank you for sharing your story so we can be aware of what we can do if something like this happens.
Wow, what a scary ordeal! Staph infections are no joke, and can happen to anyone at any time. Listen to your doctors and take good care of yourself. I'm glad you got that second opinion, too. I can't imagine someone in your incredible condition, who likely eats a healthy diet, having gout. Ridiculous! That doctor dropped the ball. Second and third opinions can be life (and limb) savers. Your description and photos may actually help another person to get care quickly, too. I'll be looking forward to your next videos once you're back on skates, but take your time! Take care and get well!
I'm pretty dreadful at skating, but I'm glad you're feeling better. Every video of yours gets me psyched to go make a fool of myself in at the very least a semi-public setting with wheels on my feet.
Glad you got it diagnosed and addressed properly! Have to listen to your body and take care of it.
As much as I’m a huge fan and subscriber and anxiously await all your videos, I don’t believe you ever owe me anything.

How awful…. So glad you got it treated before your ankle exploded! Really looking forward to future posts and the London vid
