The conflict in Colombia NEVER ended. Tourists are targets and bring an ROI 100x that a local could provide. They screen you the minute you speak to customs after landing ✈️ local gangs and police are aligned like a brotherhood. Medellin was great before COVID. Passport bros in Colombia is a very bad mix. Gangs have multiplied and psychopaths are eager to put in work.

I left Colombia on April 1st after visiting for Semana Santa. I was in Barranquilla, and Santa Marta. It was totally safe and I had a great time. Keep a low profile and you will be fine. I even drove a rental there and was stopped by the military. No issues at all.

The mayor of Colombia? 😂 There was one mayor of Medellin who banned 2 men riding on a motorcycle, and that did a lot more to cut down on crime than the current xenophobic policies. Foreigners are more likely to get victimized in Colombia simply they're not as familiar with what goes on there as locals who grew up there, and that includes Hispanic foreigners.

There is some low key racism in Colombia. There used to be a lot of European and Israeli male tourists as well as white men from North America. As the peso grew stronger there were fewer Europeans visiting. Now it's mostly black Americans.

Being going to Colombia for over 18yrs now. it's a country filled with natural wonders. great cities. awesome natural sites & beaches plus superb gastronomic choices, excellent nightlife in the major urban areas, like almost every country in the world they have their share of poblems, be smart and learn how to go about in the streets so far I haven't have any crime related experience the closest one was telling a cab driver that my cellphone was on the back seat and he speed away.....but if you go to exploit women for sex in exchange for money or worse if you go to sexually abuse minors ( both male and female) stay the hell out...thank you. (BTW I'm Puertorican, my wife is Colombian)

The country spent millions and millions of dollars to recreate Parque Lleras in Medellin which is now Provenza in order to make it more of a family, tourist destination. They did this in order to not be so dependent on tourist. They cleaned the area of drugs and prostitution and reshaped it. And you’re talking about Box??? That’s the exact problem.
