Back in 2006, I was a graduate student at the University of St. Andrews and at this time Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones spent a lot of time in town. THEY WERE INCREDIBLE!!! They hosted student clubs/parties on their grounds and spent a lot of time hanging out with the students. They were very humble and extremely friendly. They seem to be more interested in our lives as students than they were with their Hollywood reputations. I will never forget them. Michael is a true gentleman!
Michael was a powerhouse in the late 80s through early 90s.
Falling Down is such a great movie.
The Star Chamber was good too. 🎬
@@DavidLLambertmobile and Black Rain
@@italianplastic23 And "The Game"...
Brilliant movie
@@JudgeFreddAbsolutely!
I loved romancing the stone
Did the stone consent?
Micheal is one of my favourite actors today. I will watch whatever he is in. His father was cinema gold as an actor. In my books top 10 of all time.
It’s kind of crazy to thing that Michael Douglas’ first Oscar was for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 1976, seven years before him acting in Wall Street.
Edit: the dates are incorrect. Read the comment below.
Kirk bought the film rights to Cuckoo's Nest & gave it to Michael. Also, it came out in 1975 while Wall Street came out in 1987.
@@Blunder03 you are right. I don’t know why did I write “seven”.
Great actor who knew his craft, wall street was such a great movie
He played the coldness of power very well, and what these sorts of people are really like
Fair play to him, he made so many great movies, and at a time when people who were top stars could act, so it was not easy i assume to become a leading man in movies in his own right.
His career and the choice of his roles show he's one of the greatest - his father included.
Michael Douglas has done well. Very well indeed!
Michael Douglas is amazing ❤
I much prefer Michael's work to Kirk's. Not that Kirk was bad by any means but I just prefer the kinds of movies Michael was in. 70s - 90s are my favorite decades and Kirk had a lot of his success pre-70s.
The stories he got were better and more developed, plus standards changed. They’re a product of their times.
@@mayaram2411 to that I could largely agree. But I liked seeing Michael play the slimy guy
Stop comparing.
@@ianpearson8976 stop telling me what to do 🤪
Same with me, Michael played rogueish characters more and always charismatic. He is also more handsome imo
Lust for Life and Black Rain! Two really nice movies!🌿🕊
Interesting insights from Michael Douglas, a big name in cinema in his own right, about another great actor himself, that is, his father Kirk. Thank you very much for posting.
Jack Colton will forever be etched into my memory as such an iconic and memorable character.
Very few people look exactly like their parent as much as MIchael does to his dad.
Excellent actor
Michael and Kirk ❤
I watched a interview with Michael were he couldn't understand why people would come up to him and tell him that they admired Gordon Gekko because to Michael, Gordon Gekko wasn't a person to admire. And I think that was because of the world that Michael grew up in, because Gordon Geko was born into a working class background and if your a person who is also born into a working class background then you could look at Gordon Gekko as a inspiration on what you can achieve.
Wonderboys such a underated movie
Well look at how Michael turned out and how Michael's son turned out.
War of the roses is underrated. My kind of humour!
Ironic that Michael biggest early success was as producer, because just with "Cuckoo's Nest" & "China Syndrome" alone, he easily surpassed his Father Kirk in earnings. "Spartacus", Kirk's biggest success, never made him big money as producer, due to the back-end deal he made with the studio that gave him "net profit", which for many who accepts such deals, gets one virtually nothing, thanks to Hollywood studio "Creative Accounting".
Give us some brutal answers on what ur soul has thought u on earth and what it didn't and doesnt❤❤🎉🎉
Michael Douglas has had a fantastic career just his father.
The advantage is enormous! Let's be real. These people always underplay their big advantages --- even trying to turn it into a disadvantage! lol
he was a nepo baby. let's be real.
funny cos I thought the exact opposite. im thibking of the likes of colin hanks and sean lennon, a couple examples of people that are mostly known as the sons of their respective fathers.
@@latenightlogic Whta? Sean has done very well and is very well adjusted, thanks to his mom.
It took him a long time to break out as an actor, if you look at this early career he spent a long time finding success elsewhere, and as a struggling actor before he made it big time!
Funny thing is, though, I never viewed Michael as being in his father's shadow. I think perhaps he carried too much weight on his shoulders. Anyway, his work has always spoken for itself, regardless.
I agree with xpat it was all handed to him. I like Michael but definitely a huge leg up
he was a nepo baby
What about Charlie?
He had a better career than his Dad and probably made more money
Several of Kirk's films are regarded as some of the best ever made. Michael's not so much.
Also, Kirk had three Oscar nominations for Best Actor. Kirk only had one. How did Michael do better?
Old school guy here. Thought kirk in Spartacus was one of the all time greats. Never seen his son Michael act in movies, only in streets of San Francisco.
You should check out "The Game" really good movie with Michael.
well worth it.
How can you be using RUclips in 1992?
Spain is the only country in the world (thta i know of) where his father is called "Keerk Dooglas" while he is "Michael Douglas". The way non English speaking Spaniards called his father stuck back in the day and even thou they obviously share the same name they are pronounced differently by most of the population of a certain age.😅
MD conveniently leaves out the connections, auditions, etc. he would never have had if he came to Hollywood as a complete nobody..... Nepotism never comes up in these conversations.
Sure the man has proven himself to be a great actor, arguably even surpassing that of his father, but come on.
Think about the millions, who have come to Hollywood with the same talents or even better, that we'll never hear from because they weren't some famous or well connected Hollywood player's kin..... Nepobabies...
you got that right. he was a nepobaby.
Michael Douglas’ mentor and acting hero?…. Karl Malden
Nothing comes close to these guys ey ! john wayne /cagney/ cooper/bogart, burt lancaster, am i running out of names ??
Jimmy Stewart, Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, James Garner.
@hookywookywithmalarkyman704 I forgot actor James Coburn 1928 - 2002. 🎭
Given the current status quo I wouldn't spend any time with leaders❤❤🎉🎉
Looks as though Michael has turned into his father.
The interviewer clearly hasn’t read Kirk’s book seeing as he doesn’t know the correct name of it
Seriously, who the f__k cares about celebritys private life. Its just stupid and shows how manipulated people are. Good movie, but the rest is just real stupidity
What year was my age that must have been 20 years ago so that makes it almost 80 years old do you think we really give a flying f***
i don't agree with kirk's politics, but he was a great actor.
Politics got nothing to do with it many people done agree with John Wayne's politics😂
@@deadinthebed963 exactly. but these lefties always feel the need to point it out. so i enjoy returning the favor.
@@jameshudson169 Kirk Douglas very intelligent and served his country honorably as an officer in WWII-- "I don't agree with your politics." John Wayne known for being narrow-minded and a bit of a dullard and did everything he could to not serve in WWII-- "Now, THIS is the guy I agree with." It's hilarious that the right always gravitates to the denser folks.
I love his work, but what you are talking about is nepotism and it exists and is present in the Film & TV World.
he was a nepobaby. see the current celebs now pushing their kids into movies to keep the train going like arnold's kids
@@cutehumor totally agree with you.
Looks like his old man
His father was an asshole! His treatment of women and his use of the ‘casting couch’ is well known but he left all that out of his autobiography.
he was, but he was also a fantastic actor and a great movie star, people dot get how you can be a bad person but still be magnetic and talented
Why are they still talking about a rapist?
His real name is not Michael "Douglas" . He belongs to a certain tribe no one is allowed to speak of.
Wow. I have Michael branded in my head, from the In Laws. He has aged, but not for me.
DiCaprio is a way better actor than most of these overrated old actors. Acting in the old days was so cringe lol.
Looks like Michael will be seeing Kirk soon.
he's 79 years old. his dad made it to 103. hope he doesn't think he can beat the old man with age!
What a horrible thing to say… shame on you
lets be honest if his name had been micheal smith , he'd never been a star. He wasn't particularly good actor, or charismatic or a force of nature like his father, he was kirk douglas son, so his pros outclass his cons by a mile
How to Say I’ve never watched Wall Street without actually saying it
@@conorsmith8551 to be fair thats by far his best and most iconic performance
How to say I never watch a single performance of Michael Douglas without saying it.
@@paulfienga9466 yeah, your pal already tried that and it was a bit silly, now you parroting what he just said its just embarrassing, but good try though (not really)
