When I was in Japan for the very first time with my friends, I told my friends that we need to go to this place (which is the final scene in this movie) they didn’t understand why cause they haven’t watch the film. But I did and I was so damn happy. That I, at least have a photo of that last staircase scene. This movie was beautiful from the animation, story and soundtrack. I weep watching this btw haha
Happy Birthday Heather! 🎉 One of the many things I love about this movie is the dichotomy between Mitsuha and Taki; Mitsuha has her whole life ahead of her and was given purpose by the people around her which was suffocating for her and put a lot of responsibility on her while Taki doesn't really have that and just sort of does his own things like a wanderer. It was only until they swapped bodies was Taki able to find purpose and pursue Mitsuha and Mitsuha was able to stand up against her father and start paving the way for her own purpose. It's like they found purpose in each other. Also Another fun fact: Taki didnt forget Mitsuha immediately after all her notes disappearing in his phone because he still have her braided cord that she gave 3 years ago. As Mitsuha's grandma says, those threads are like time. They disconnects and reconnects. That's why when Taki returned the cord to Mitsuha, he lost all his link to her, eventually forgetting her. There was a rumor that Michael Bay was doing a live-action of this movie, but the purists are not keen on any remake into live action and transposed to an American setting - many of the tropes and mythology does not translate. A Japanese TV show ran a segment on this movie not long after its release as they noticed its popularity among the older generation keeping it in the movie charts (despite the film being marketed to young adults/teens). They invited some older generation folks to a special screening and placed cameras in the movie theatre towards the audience, then interviewed the people afterwards. Needless to say, many of the old folks were in tears, and noted that the "red string of fate" (symbolised in this movie with Mitsuha's ribbon and the dream sequence at the shrine) which is prevalent in Eastern oriental cultures was something they experienced in their own lives - like an invisible bond - some people said they met their spouse/soul mate or found something they were looking for. The girl in the classroom right before the end, was Mitsuhas sister btw ^^ the other 2 in the cafe where her friends :) and i feel it, i also cried in this movie ^^' btw, the other 2 movies from this branch, is "weathering with you" and "Suzume" i also highly recommend watch them :) , especially because you might realise the easter eggs right after Your name ;P

I have yet to complete this movie..I tried showing it to my Non anime sibling/sis/aunt..on the family TV...and they were so turned off..so I could not finish it.. Have heard really good things.. And congrats for first tear rambo

It's very good to show emotions on the outside and I know how fucked up it is to have to learn that as a man. Don't worry, it's important and right to let your emotions out, even in public ❤🩹
Regarding a live-action version of this movie, it is under consideration, but is currently stalled. The last I heard was in October 2022. After one abortive attempt, the producers have tapped a new director - Carlos López Estrada. The plan is for Paramount to release the film produced by J.J.Abrams. The film will be about a young Native American woman and a young man from Chicago who magically swap bodies. The film will be made from an American point of view, which resulted in changes to the setting. Tokyo was changed to Chicago, and rural Japan was changed to a Native American countryside. I think the choice of a Native American is a good one because Native American spirituality is somewhat similar to Shinto which features prominently in Your Name in the role of the local guardian spirit. But the fact that there does not seem to be anything new posted about this project since 2022 does not bode well for its completion.

Japanese really keep hand draw animation alive. I have my own crazy theory about this movie the god that allow them to meet up have it own battle probably a conflict between moon god ( helping) fight with time god ( disagreeing ) where they disagree to each others. That why when they go back or forward in time they don't realize the year because Time god try to hide it. Moon god what them to meet and want the to save the village but Time god say no. When they meet again on the mountain the time god sent them back to their timeline and erase their memory.
