Great last pic of Stan and Ollie ("Two Tars"?). Stan retired to a modest apartment in Burbank where, for years, any new comics coming to Hollywood would pay a visit to Stan for great conversation and whatever precious advice he might give.
In my own personal opinion Stan Laurel is the greatest physical comedy writer ever. I loved Chaplin, Keaton & Harold Lloyd and even though they were decades before my time, their comedy still stands. Stan wrote pretty much everything Laurel & Hardy did and I could show it today to anyone aged 5 to 105 and they would still blow snot bubbles with laughter 😂 … Genius.
The one that shocked me for a moment was the picture of the Beefeater guards at the Tower of London. They dress the exact same way to this day! I honestly thought at first that it was a modern black and white picture, but it was actually taken in the late 1800's! Astonishing.
Not many people know that he wrote all of the material and Ollie just showed up to act… He was usually playing golf while Stan was creating … They were still the greatest duo ever and the chemistry was epic. But, Stan never got the full credit for being the absolute creative genius that he was.

Too bad the GF was already married. I wonder what the husband thought afterwards seeing a guy who cuckolded him becoming world famous with HIS name.
Fun history fact, Walter Christie invented the first prototype front-wheel drive car in 1904. He used his experimantal Front-Wheel Drive cars for racing. This concept also applied to the first motorized fire engines to do away with horse drawn fire engines. The transition from RWD to FWD began in 1975. By 1990, most car manufacturers removed almost all RWD drivetrains from their car offerings. The FWD drivetrain essentially became the industry standard for *most* mordern cars built within the last 30+ years.

The Newcastle castle comparison pics are so weird, the must have done massive restoration between 1895 and 22, there are all sorts of weird differences, it almost looks like someone built a replica building and then took 2 pics and compared, because there’s are sooo many little differences, they almost look like 2 different buildings

Stan Laurel wrote almost everything .. other than a spell when the studio controlled him and switched to other writers out of spite .. it did not go well. He also wrote for other comedians. Along with music I also have a comedy background and have been around very well known comedy writers especially when living in NYC for a few years … none of them … NOT ONE .. can hold a candle to Stan Laurel … IMO The greatest physical comedy writer of all time (Chaplin & Keaton are up there too) 🤗

I love the muscle cars. Keep thinking of buying a C3 Corvette or Mach 1 Mustang but they are a nightmare mechanically and not comfortable. Could go full restomod but they are so expensive and then your into new corvette pricing. !

I watched a fascinating video about a castle its' builders, in parts, used bricks from the Roman buildings nearby. Possibly the stones for this building had been harvested from an older building.

The Beefeaters date from 1485. That nickname, and their uniforms, both date from the mid-1600s.
