I'm after a full size keyboard and multimedia that you can change the keycaps and switch with full customization? I don't know a brand and a good model which do you recommend?
Zagzags well I was mainly speaking on gb prices and going into after market prices . I’ve never seen a base set retail for more than 130$ but I know Olivia round 1 sold for as high as 520$ aftermarket
Great vid. I just wish you added more labeling for which set of key caps you were talking about. You did one time when you mentioned XDA but nothing after. Your audio was ok so those labels would help especially when you would pick up speed as you spoke. Thanks for the content!
The thing about ABS plastic is that they sound deeper than PBT when typing. Keycaps have a huge affect on the sound of a switch and ABS sounds better than PBT. The very expensive sets are very thick as well (which also affects the sound) so that gives more reason to buy them.
About that cheap $12 set - the top layer is "PBT" - but I don't think it's pure or at very least it's very thin. I have a couple sets of those - one in white and one in gray. The gray set shows scratches VERY easily, which PBT usually does not do. (As long as you keep it clean the white set keeps looking good, though.) They are also much shorter and more angular than typical OEM profile, which could be a good thing if you want something sculpted but a little shorter.
Interesting how people find the flat profiles more difficult to type on. My experience has been the exact opposite. Profiles like OEM and Cherry make it very easy for me to hit the wrong keys because the keys have those raised corners. I tend to type with my fingers close to the keyboard, so I keep hitting the raised corners of adjacent keys. Bonus points if I have light switches. A flat, low profile is ideal, and the flat round tops would make it less likely for me to hit neighboring keys by accident because of those raised corners.
It's worth mentioning that cherry profile keycaps have interference on PCBs with North-Facing switches, which means that R2 will sound and possibly feel different than the rest of the rows on the keyboard :3ildcat has some good videos on this, there are ways of fixing it (although they look pretty tedious) but just keep that in mind if you're getting a GMK set for a North-Facing board or something :)
I see what you mean, but most of the keyboards I review are sub $100, so a good chunk of my audience wouldn't really be into $250 keycap sets I guess haha! 🙃
Just said like 12 whats in a row at like 8:18. Like, this is your first video I stumbled on as a beginner keyboard enthusiast, and whilst scoping your channel I didn't see much further than budget keycap set purchases in terms of custom mechs, so I'll let it slide :P Thing is - like pretty much everything on the market, the expensive gear has production and R&D costs behind it, I'd suggest you to check out some new fabs in the works if you have time, honestly it's really interesting. The amount of time and money spent by the designers for these and getting the keycaps to production is insane, and the people who do that sort of stuff really do love keyboards. There's obviously classics that are being 'cheapified' if I can make that word up, which end up being the keycap styles that are lower price and have wider availability. Now, saying all this, I'm writing this on a mere GK64S (clipped stabs, stock Box Royals cause tactile bump or I would've bought T1s or Halos otherwise, and yes I'm going to get Zilents), and having tried it with Cherry (Corsair K65), OEM (Tai-Hao carbon shine-through pbt), XDA (Moonlight 1967) and SA (Maxkey Miami Nights), I have to say while it doesn't feel different material-wise they look amazing and I appreciate all the time they took from imagining them to creation as a widely available set. Nonetheless, great video, keep up the great work! P.S. show me a cheap GMK 8008 clone and I'm going to hop on that right away.
Thanks! Yeah other websites have a greater selection but that's with them that I have a partnership haha! And unfortunately no, for the Anne Pro 2 case 😞
Cool, in 2024 which is the keycap profile now that you just want to type on forever (disregarding the noise, just the feel, the one that types like a dream)? God bless.
Some things to note: - the "icons" keycaps are called "novelties" - 55$ is not really on the pricey side - PBT DO also shine over time, it just takes more time than ABS
@@loykunEX yep, depending of the profile and with who the collaboration may be, if you want a full-size keyset with novelties + modifiers + specific keys, it can be 200$+ pretty quickly.
I see what you means, as for the price, I usually review sub $100 keyboards, so 55-100$ keycap sets is quite expensive. I often get asked to review sub $50 keyboard, so knowing my audience, it wouldn't be very interesting to talk about 200$+ keycaps. As for PBT technically yes, but most enthusiasts will buy new sets before they wear out I guess? or it's just me? 😆
@@minimalistik yep, indeed ! And yeah, usually it takes time but depending on how much your fingers sweat, how much time you do spend on a keyboard (and so on...) it may still wear out at some point. Wanted to say that, to not get people desilusined if they do buy some PBT keycaps and expect them to feel the same after 5 years or so (the casual gamer is not an enthusiast buying keycaps every few weeks 😂). Hey, really enjoyed this video and the way you showed off everything. As i'm a little late, is there still a way to buy Akko's Steam Engine Keycaps? They seem to be only sold with their keyboards but not as a set anymore...or are there clones somewhere?
What kind of keyboard cases are you using for these? I didn't really see a lot of logos on them...I'm looking for a sleek minimalist body with little to no logos.
How to know if I would like to type on xda profile? The OEM profile has too long of travel distance and small surface area for me. Probably because I'm used to my membrane Logitech keyboard. Would like to have the mech version of that keyboard.
I'm after a full size keyboard and multimedia that you can change the keycaps and switch with full customization? I don't know a brand and a good model which do you recommend?
Yes, I just did that for my 60% keyboard. I added some o-rings (two per keycap stem), and the difference in sound and feel is huge. But I did have the leave on the original arrow keys and enter key (ISO). The new PBT enter key didn't fit properly and it was to wobbly as to be unusable. I even tried without the o-rings. The arrow keys worked fine, but they were too small and left a lot of awkward empty space.
