my sister gave me two of these lil guys. after a few week they started fighting, and now one has a deformed front foot from all the biting :C i had to seperate them and am now trying to find a new home for one of them. but apart from that mishap i love having them. never had a pet like this before and im researching every day to make them happy.
I keep my turtle outside, she has the entire backyard to her self, I built her a deck which she uses to come in and out of her pond, well she has decided to hibernate or brumate and dug her self completely I can only see her nostrils sticking out of the dirt. I am concern that she will die because she ate before she went dormant. Is this normal? and last year she also laid eggs in the dirt out in the back yard. my concern is should I wake her? and how long will she stay in the dirt?
LOL, I have a fake turtle that doesn't even look that real and I put it up to his tank and he did that. He wiggles his fingers in front of his face and he did it to my finger haha.
everytime i let my hatching yellow belly walk around my room he always climbs close to me. is that good? does he have a bond with me? his tank stays the right temp. and ive taken care of him since he was hatching. (i had to help the little guy a tiny bit)
Thanks for the vid. I have a red slider thats been doing the finger waving to his reflection in the bottom of his tank. Never realized what he was doing too bad we don't have a female... ;-)
My husband's co worker gave us his yellow belly slider, around 10 years old. We were told it was a male. Nope, started laying eggs 6 months after we took it in, it was just kept in such poor condition before that it never laid eggs 😥
+ LLLReptile and Supply Co, Inc. My 6 in adult male slider was doing this for months to a goldfish. I had originally had a dozen for a treat and he lived with the last one for 9 months. it looked as if he were trying to court the fish...? could his finger waving be some sort of Territorial gesture in that case? They lived in harmony doing that daily for 9 months...(the feeder for HUGE!)....Then one morning he was gone. no trace of the fish. no leftovers?? was he fattening him up? or why would they do such a thing to something they see as food??
I'm getting my first yellow bellied slider and was wondering if the turtle is okay as an only pet? I was offered two terrapins but I just wanted the one due to the fact that they get bigger but I'm not sure if that was the right choice or not...
What is the best time to see if I have a male or female yellow bellied turtle and a razorback musk turtle. The yellow bellied is 3 months and the razorback musk is 8 months old please help if you can
I have a yellow belly slider that is 2 years old and his nail are very long, what can i get to help get them shorter? I have heard not to do it yourself as chance to hurt them.
We were given a yellow belly slider, and he is shedding his scutes.... had to google that, anyway he will bite and even eat them if i dont get the cleaned out of the tank fast enough, is that ok? Its his first time shedding in our care.
Mayby i don't know if you know this I feed my turtle catfood because is has everything in it that they need and some live food to but i think its one of the best ways to keep them healthy
I have one YBS and am currently using a 40 gallon tank is it necessary to upgrade because I don't know if I can and I would rather stay with his old tank
idk if i have a yellow belly slider or if i have a yellow belly cooder can u plz make a vid on how to tell a yellow belly slider and a yellow belly cooder apart plz
Yes, It should be. Usually a good rule for turtles is 10 gallons per 1 inch shell length. The tank size you will need for your adult yellow bellied slider will depend on the gender of the turtle. Females get much bigger than males.
I have a yellow belly and I try to feed it lettuce and wirim but it don't eat it so I want to the pet store and buy turtle food is that OK oh and how big can it get becues some one told me if I put it in a bigger tank it will get bigger
You are supposed to feed them daily. Most diurnal turtles prefer to eat first thing in the morning when they are most active. Feed them normally what they consume within a half hour. If they eat everything very quickly consider offering more. Turtle pellets offer adequate nutrition. YBS are considered mostly herbivore so also feed a diet of dark greens, sprouts and water crest. Some also will eat fruits and vegetables fixed small. Treat your turtle weekly with feeder fish, insects, worms and shrimp. Avoid fatty proteins.
Yellow belly sliders can break skin and can have a nasty bite. My YBS snapped my son's hand and broke skin. When I do tank cleaning I also clean my YBS with a soft washcloth. If the washcloth comes near his face He snaps the cloth and grabs it and won't let go. You can actually tug at the washcloth for sometime with him tugging back on it. He will not let go. I sometimes think he's part snapping turtle 🐢.

+Sarah Morris Turtles are usually afraid to eat outside of the water, because they drink the water with the food to keep it down with out them chocking.
I like how she flings the turtles around in a accordance to her hand gestures.... meanwhile the turtle is like WTF.....

Nothing :) You leave them alone - long front nails are a definitive characteristic of a male, and they are not supposed to be shorter.
Do you guys have any of those tanks that were behind u for sale
I have two 3 year old turtles witch I have been given can you advise me on how to look after them please.

They don't have much use of their shedded scutes, discard them unless you're one of those people that like to collect them...

He is currently 5 inches at about 5 years
And male :)
For each inch of their shell length, that's 10 Gallons. So 2 inches 20 gallons, 8 inches 80 gallons and so on. But 40 gallons should be fine.
Toby Kant should be 50 to 55 gallon
idk if i have a yellow belly slider or if i have a yellow belly cooder can u plz make a vid on how to tell a yellow belly slider and a yellow belly cooder apart plz
Gianna Isabella yellow bellied cooters and sliders are the same thing
Is that as big as they get or are those turtles still growing?
Can you do a video of youre new skinks?
if I got a 5ft tank would it last for about 5 years?
Yes, It should be. Usually a good rule for turtles is 10 gallons per 1 inch shell length. The tank size you will need for your adult yellow bellied slider will depend on the gender of the turtle. Females get much bigger than males.
Bro 5 ft tank you could keep like 2-3 of them and they’ll last forever that’s a big ass tank💀😂

How often should I feed my two adult yellow bellied turtles ? they are 6 and 7 inches. And how much food should I feed them ?
2 a week

Can you house a yellow belly slider with a African sideneck turtle.
Oh God I thought I was really confident my turtle was female but now I'm thinking it's a male. Do females not tuck their tails?
I have one that is way smaller

Are Yellow Bellied Sliders bigger than Red Bellied Sliders? Please reply back.
The hell is a red bellied slider do u mean red earded slider

No, they actually do take a while to grow. Up to ten years. :)
+Logan Cox k thanks
No problem
are they friendly
+Gemma Smith friendly ish? They are aquatic turtles, so not really a handling type of pet. Fun though!
How can I stop my yellow bellied slider from eating his own fecal waste?
+warmcozy You can't. They do that sometimes. So do dogs for that matter :)
Bonita la guerita!!
Yesterday I caught 2 baby sliders
Hey that yellow-bellied slider turtle it's my turtle and I got

Even when they live outside and get fully grown they dont have very much of a bite they wont break skin
