Actually ARK has served very well to identify problematic stocks. It is as if Cathy is actively looking for the worst possible investments and timing trades to maximise losses. If I see Cathy buying something it immediately goes on my warning list. If she’s selling I consider if the downside move is now exhausted. I don’t know how she does it, but I suspect she gets insider information on stocks that others want to sell off.
Adyen is actually really good. The p/e was just to high, but that got resulted a week ago. That's when she bought and I bought as well. Probably the best stock she owns 😂
Glad to see your video on my feed. I still watch a few other RUclipsrs.. I've followed trades of a couple RUclipsrs and I'm down so much…210k to 80k. It got addictive. My resolve is the lot are amateurs.

Nailed it, Burry is a tier too high... completely ignore anything he says. Hes been predicting a crash every single year since he got that one right. 0 Reason to pay attention.
Agreed, Burry wouldn't get even a fraction of the attention he gets today if he didn't get one short bet right. Burry gets more attention then everyone else on that list (other than Buffett) simply because people will pay far more attention to you for getting one short bet right then they will for successful long bets. You have to be right consistently for a very long period to get the kind of recognition that Buffett gets, or be very right for a short period of time (like Cathie Wood).
Nice, but you didn't include some very good investors.....Li Lu, Joel Greenblatt( both S in my opinion)Guy Spier...François Rochon....Tom Gayner.......all right in the top 2 tiers in my humble opinion
Wow, what an incredibly detailed and insightful analysis of these super investors! Your knowledge and understanding of their strategies and track records are truly impressive. It's clear that you've done your homework and have a deep appreciation for the world of investing. If you had the opportunity to sit down with one of these super investors for a one-on-one discussion, who would it be and what burning question would you ask them?
If given the chance, I'd love to sit down with Warren Buffett, and my burning question would be, "What timeless principles do you believe are crucial for long-term investment success in today's ever-changing financial landscape?" 📈💡
I agree! It's essential to acknowledge the value of well-researched insights into the world of investing, as this knowledge can be incredibly beneficial for individuals looking to make informed financial decisions.
Joseph may I draw your attention to a few other super investors • Lou Simpson (the CIO at GIECO) who is now deceased • David Swensen also deceased is the father of investing for endowment funds. His book for individual investors is a must read. • Wally Wietz • Bill Miller • Donald Yacktman • John Rogers • Tom Gayner Markel Corp • Bill Danoff - Fidelity • Bruce Flatt - Brookfield Corp Obviously it’s impossible to compare all of these investors. But as a student of investing each one of them have crossed my radar at one time or another. Perhaps a series on investing hall of fame. Continue the good work of educating your viewers
Einhorn is an F tier investor to me. He used to be good when he focused on his circle of competency (i.e. financial stocks), but then he went downhill when he decided to start shorting a bunch of tech stocks that he decided had outrageously high PE ratios (i.e. many FAANGM stocks, and most infamously Tesla). He's blown through so much money shorting high flying tech stocks that he doesn't understand that he actually lost his billionaire status, and a lot of investors in his fund.
I’m confused as to what Michael Burry is even doing on this list, and to make it more confusing, A-Tier?? He doesn’t even have a definitive investment philosophy.
I liked the video. I wish there was a way to pull up their current portfolio and just take a look into what super investors are buying, selling, and holding currently
Great video! Hope you do another tier list soon, if you do, could you please add the annualized return and number of years investing for each investor? That would make it much easier for us to see the actual performance of each investor :)
Would be interested to hear your opinion on HyunHo Sohn, who does an outstanding job with the Fidelity Global Technology Fund (beating the NASDAQ on 10/15yr period).
What do you think about Li Lu? The story of him becoming a millionaire by investing his college scholarship is quite impressive and the fund that he manages, Himalaya capital, seems to be doing well too (although it's hard to be sure because most of the positions are not in the US, AFAIK).
Great Podcast Thank You for the courage and honesty to reveal the wolf in sheep’s clothing. Mr. Spac himself ~ Chamath. He did so much dis service to his investors. I often wonder if Bernie Maddoff was his mentor.
2:28 those returns are in £ sterling. if you price the fund in US $ i calculate the annualised returns at about 13%. GBP/USD went from about 1.628 at inception to about 1.257 recently.
Is it from TipRank? At the begining, you should talk about the criterias. Is it only the CGR over the last (20 yrs?, investment lifetime?) year? Or the last 10 years? Or .... This would make the ranking more reliable and transparent
I love your idea of this video, however I think Howard Marks is S tier! I don't follow his way of investing (for example distressed debt yielding 18%) but you have to admitt he is brilliant.
Bill gates from my understanding has a team of people that invest his money. That being said, I'd imagine those names were run by Buffett as they claim to know each other quite well. Probably some high quality companies there. Some of them okay compounders.
Excellent Joseph. Love your content which are teaching 💎 Terry Smith is S for sure. Munger is A or B without Buffet. You missed Ray Dalio, LiLu and Guy Spier -- all S and A catogery ❤. Also checkout Gautam Baid
Joseph, I have two questions for you. 1. Why most big Investors (with exception of Warren Buffett) don't invest in Apple? 2. How CBDC will impact Mastercard and Visa?
Hi Joseph, I follow you in RUclips for sometime alread and I really like your transparency and the value you provide for small investors . Your videos a quite long but I managed to listen to them because most of the time I learn something new in the end. In your list of super investors you never iven mention Ray Dalio . He is a top maney manager and also is a great teacher for a small investors. I would like you to make a video about him and hear your opinion Thank you very much 🙂
Wood is Z-Tier for me. Buying non profitable companies or those with no moat at all is poor investing in my opinion. PayPal, Roku and Zoom are so easy to copy or already have many competitors….
Ray's writing is excellent yep. I consider his last book 'Principles dealing with the New World Order' is a masterpiece. Though his investing is not the same as others because it's for the ultra wealthy already. You need $100m to enter his fund in the first place, so his goal is maintenance of capital rather than multiples thereof etc. In short, Dalio won't make you rich, but he will keep you rich 😆
Yeah, I would say you are mostly on point here but I would argue you are being harsh on Cathie Wood. Her main ETF has under performed but she has had other calls that I would say have been spot on or helpful (she was well ahead of most on Tesla). Also I get Portnoy was a joke add but a bunch of people followed him into Penn and they got hosed, he has a ETF that he’s associated with that has bigger fees than ARK and has performed worse somehow. Only reason he got barstool back for a dollar was because Penn wanted to dump it at that. All of that being said, I appreciate these videos and all the content you make. Your two channels and their content always make the weekly rotation.
I have seen this Chamath guy in a few videos. He talks fast but almost nothing that comes out of his mouth has made sense to me. I have always wondered why. What is it that people see in him that I don’t. Thanks for solving that problem for me.😊
I love your content. Regarding this video, you mentioned the average annual return of the investors, but only for Warren Buffett you mentioned the period, 40 years. I think that it is important to know also for the other investors, as below 15 years of good returns could be attributed to luck.
Even if you set aside that Chamath's first 9 years took place in a risk-on market in which he pumped and dumped the absolute riskiest assets, he used flat percentages to make it look like his performance was better than Buffett but his performance was +237% the S&P while Buffett's was +892%. Not close.
I think putting Icahn lower because he is a corporate raider is heavily biased. The goal of a super investor is to make massive money if he is beating the market through his strategy then he is a super investor even if someone doesn’t like him as a person (I don’t know his exact returns but returns mean all as skill speaks louder then bravado)
Didn’t you put Jim Chanos picture when describing Druckenmiller? I believe there was a mixup in that one, surprised didn’t see in comments. For American investors that I like, learn from and would add value to the video I missed Aswath Damodaran, Joel Greenblatt, Peter Lynch, Lu Liu and Ray Dalio.
The list seems very arbitrary to reflect personal preferences, opinions and likings. While being aligned with the big guys philosopphy is important, more objective would be to sort them by their long term performance, say, 10 or 15 years.
I have limited knowledge of half the investors you described and my knowledge I do have of the others largely come from you Joseph. As such I have no choice but to agree with your selections. I'm dissappointed in Cathy Woods. However, at this point I realize she's just got a very specific world view as to investing and it is only to focus on the most high risk long shot innovators. IMO that's similar to the bears. Her research is largely right. The question is when will these "disruptions" occur? That's the thing. Nobody can know that. Same with the bears. They are largely right that there are serious issues in our monetary system and economy overall. However, when will this downfall occur? For those reasons, both views are all about timing. By definition, bad. Chamath is just a scam artist. Period. He has repeatedly told the public to buy when the turned around and sold. He's an AHOLE in my opinion.
Just realized I got the picture of Stanley Druckenmiller swapped with Jim Chanos. They look a bit similar now that I look at it.
It’s really amazing! She’s one of a kind!
Adyen is actually really good. The p/e was just to high, but that got resulted a week ago. That's when she bought and I bought as well. Probably the best stock she owns 😂
It’s not that’s she’s just unlucky … Nobody can be that unlucky … It has to be scam… a funnel for dumping bags on retail investors by misdirection
Chamath doesnt even belong in the Super investor list. He should be in the super clown list.
Chamath gets an S for being the most profitable modern day grifter.
His a scammer!! Not an investor!
Both of them should get married lol
Main rule: don't buy what Chamath is selling.
In fact, don't buy what ANY of the best investors are selling. Chances are it's not going up.

Michael Burry in the same tier as Terry Smith? You must be joking...
I luckily made good money with ARK when I shorted it in August 2021 but I agree Cathie Wood is one of the most overvalued money managers

I’m very glad to see drunkenmiller make the list. The most unknown and under appreciated investor. Would love to see him on the super investor videos
Michael Larson is Bill gate’s money manager btw
