Do you follow up with a deep conditioner, or does the okra gel provide enough moisture on its own?
Following up with a deep conditioner is always great! sometimes i do and sometimes i don't. If Your Deep conditioner is all natural ingredients like Avocado and coconut milk hair mask then you can apply the okra gel fist then add the Avocado and coconut milk hair mask on top cover it and condition at the same time.

How fo you remove the okra/gel pieces?
You strain the gel, so there wont be pieces. I used a very fine strainer. Just rinse with plain water. You don't even need to rinse thoroughly. If a little is left in your hair, its no big deal
