    Thanks. Mighty helpful. Changed them today on a 900SS. This bike sat for years so I haven't fired it yet but am confident the new belts are installed correctly. Other work to do yet. Cheers.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. I am looking at a 2006 Monster S2R that has never has the belts changed. Dealer is asking ~$700US. I normally do all the basic maintenance in all my bikes but I was feeling intimidated by the belt replacement in a Ducati. Your video has given me more confidence about tackling this task.

      I just looked at my library... I have a 800 S2R. I am really surprised I don't have a belt video. I am considering buying another. I will have to do a video for it.

      THe S2R sounds amazing with a pipe. I have GPR. The GPR pipe does not fit properly. Try to find a used Termi or Arrow.

    Hi, thank you for making this video. The upper vertical cam moved when I removed the old belt. Im pretty sure it rotated clockwise. I move it counterclockwise with the timing mark on the cam and case lining up (just like before). Is it relevant that the cam moved clockwise/counterclockwise as long the timing marks lines back up? The reason why I ask is after I installed the belts, my ‘05 Monster S2R wont fire up. It cranks (I hear gas pumping, I can smell gas getting dumped into the exhaust) and very faint rumbles from the engine/exhaust. Any idea what is happening? Thanks in advance.

    • @RideWNC

      Typically, if you were off one tooth on the gear, the engine would not turn. Your piston would be tapping a valve. It sounds more like a wire or sensor is disconnected.

      @bavarian06 Год назад

      @@RideWNC thanks for the quick reply. I just posted a video on youtube. I don’t recall disconnecting any wires. I did change the spark plugs and checked the spark gap. Even when I put the old spark plugs back in, it still wouldnt fire.

    What is the main purpose of marking the new belts? Is it to ensure the tooth count is the same, or any other reasons? Just ordered some new belts and this video makes me wanna do em myself. Thank you..

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  4 года назад +1

      There are no timing marks on Ducati belts. You do not need to line up the timing marks on the case. You do need to make sure the marks you put on the old belts and pulleys, match up perfectly with the marks on the new belts. Then the job is super easy and you will get enjoyment out of a job well done while saving 1200.00. Any little mistake and it could cost you more than 1200.00.

      I wanted to keep it for a while, but it sold very quickly. I just built a 2002 Superhawk. I wish I would have done videos for it. But after the 800ss sold, I really had the bug to ride the VTR. I bought it in March and had all the parts to make it nice, so the build only took a couple weeks. Now I have a like new Superhawk to beat on until it sells. I love my hobby.

    If you had removed the spark plugs...I'm thinking that you wouldn't have had the pulleys move... due to a lack of compression...no?

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  3 года назад

      The cams will only spin about a half inch that is why it is very important to mark the case. I doubt the crank will turn freely without putting a wrench on it.

      I use eBay. Most Ducati parts are inter-changable. Coils are the same on most of the air cooled bikes.Just compare yours to the pictures. The brake pedal is also going to be about the same for most SS and Monsters.

    • @RideWNC

      You don't need anything special. If you were buying a four valve, then you will need to buy tools to hold the cams in place. With the two valve just mark the cam position on the cam and on the case and keep them lined up.
