Wow! Your channel is clearly going to be a guidebook for me as I enter my first year of formal homeschooling. I have five kids-all between five months old and seven years old-and due to always being pregnant or in a postpartum season, I've naturally leaned into unschooling and eclectic, unstructured use of workbooks. We also participate in unstructured, free nature-based homeschool groups. Even my minimal effort way of schooling has kept them "ahead" in language arts and history. However, my husband (and myself and our kids, if I'm being realistic) wants and needs more structure and intentionality. Your channel makes all of this a lot more approachable. I'm watching, taking notes, and truly looking forward to beginning a more intentional homeschool journey with my family.

Hey, thank you for sharing your knowledge, I’ve found your CM reading and spelling videos giving much needed practical clarification on how to implement her methods. Could you do a video on how you do nature studies / nature journaling? Especially interested to know how you begin with children 5 - 7 years old. What to expect from them? Do you focus on a theme of insects, butterflies or trees, or do they just go find anything…? How is a nature study lesson organised? What length are they - I put them off because I feel they’ll take all afternoon and require my full time supervision? What natural history reading do you do alongside it in family gathering? Is it different for different age groups?

Yes! I’m planning on making videos for each subject - overview of how CM taught it and how it apply the principles for my family.

I create my own curriculum almost exclusively. So much better.

How do you choose a history spine?

    • @simplewondersacademy

I look for recommendations online and from friends, and then read or skim through each one to make sure it’s a good fit. My favorite American history spines are by Steve Sheinkin. This Country of Ours REVISED by Donna Jean Breckenridge is good, too. Lorene Lambert writes great American and World history books for Simply Charlotte Mason. And Story of the World is good for world history. Those are all appropriate for elementary age kids. Nothing New Press has good ones for middle school age kids. I’m still deciding on high school…
These are a good place to start!

These are the same reasons I create my own curriculum. I don't plan out quite this detailed, because I become a slave to it too. I do like to write out questions and suggested extension for myself on some books though. PS- Love your hair, super cute! Hope to see you at book club this fall!

Yes, definitely! I’ve found if I make a plan (or use a curriculum) that is too detailed it does all the thinking for the child and I teach a lesson instead of a person. Thank you! I’m definitely planning on book club this year and Im looking forward to it!

Thanks for feedback, I appreciate it. Sonya does an amazing job and her videos/podcast are very professional. I hope someday when I have the experience and resources she has my videos will be more like hers.
