    Hi everyone :) So I'm taking a break from posting ODS videos/answering comments for personal reasons and am loving all of the community support I've seen in the comment sections! Im hoping this continues and everyone can use these videos as a source of relationship building and information sharing! Every one of you are amazing and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Hooyah Navy! ⚓

      Hi Jess & Jakii, any new ODS vids?

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  3 года назад

      Hi there, unfortunately nothing new since the one about Covid's impact on ODS. I've been finishing up my fellowship and prepping for an upcoming OCONUS PCS, so I probably won't be making anymore updates unless huge changes to thr program are made.

    Lol “u gonna pass out?” I didn’t realize that’s what they were doing the whole time

      Haha! That's what we were told since a lot of Sailors had a tendency to lock their knee. One of the girls in my graduating class did actually fall out because she had her knees locked so I guess it happens more often than not 😅 But at the time, having that person right next to me in formation was so uncomfortable! 😂

      Lol! I thought the dude was just doing that to look pretty. Thankfully none of us passed out. BTW, thank you for your informative videos on ODS! They're very helpful, and I have something to look forward to. Also another quick question: Are we allowed to cut our own hair at ODS? (not just shave it bald) It's within regs.

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  5 лет назад

      It was pretty cool looking if you didn't know what it was for! I'm glad everyone survived though, haha! Also I'm really happy to hear that these videos have been helpful! I just passed my licensing exam and am graduating and PCSing in less than 2 weeks so hopefully I'll be able to shove out a few more before then! If nothing else at least the guide to warmups while there (which sounds crazy but that's what got us in the most trouble!). As for haircuts they will have you take care of your own hair provided that it's in regulations :) Much much much nicer than bootcamp!

    Thank you for sharing your experience with us! You mentioned graduation was around 9am, do you remember what time it was when you had checked out? I was hoping I could spend time with my family on Friday afternoon/evening after graduation. Also, if I fly out of Providence on Saturday morning, do I stay on base overnight on Friday? Should I find a hotel room for that night?

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  5 лет назад +1

      Hi there! So the graduation is about 40 minutes long, then there are mandatory photos. After that you go back to barracks and clean it out (you can also take the time Thursday to do this) and after its cleaned out you have whoever is in charge check it and clear it. Once you are cleared you get your orders and run as fast as you can -- I mean you're gtg. So all in all it's about a 2 hour ordeal and then you get to be with your family. I know that some people stayed in the barracks until Saturday but if you're family is in town I would definitely stay with them! The barracks are less than ideal haha!

    Your videos are so helpful, thanks for sharing! Will be heading to ODS this August. Do you know about what time I would be able to leave after graduation / the earliest time you'd recommend a flight out of Providence airport?

    Thank you! So the 1st day is Sunday and graduation is the Friday, exactly 5 weeks after? Trying to get best plane tickets prices. My daughter starts June 2nd

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  5 лет назад +1

      Sorry for the late response! You're absolutely right on the dates. The airport is a bit far away so most people taxi in. Graduation will most likely be at 9AM that morning, however the night before there is a reception for family members along with their service members. Hope that helps in your planning!

    Hi and thank you for your videos! My husband is currently attending ODS in Newport and I would like to connect with you and ask you some questions :) - My husband is graduating on July 5th and I am not sure about the date I should buy my return ticket... after graduation will my husband be allowed to leave and catch his flight? Did you buy your own ticket back home or your return flight was already booked by the Navy? I'm trying to plan out my return flight and know if my hubby would be able to come back with me (buying his own ticket) or would have to follow an arranged itinerary. Do they reimburse you the return plane ticket? Thanks in advance!

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  5 лет назад +1

      Hi there! So it really depends on where your husband is going next! If it is to his first duty station, they will either pay for his plane ticket or they will pay for him to drive there. I believe he should be getting a little bit of leave time after ODS (his orders will likely say something like must arrive to duty station by July 2019) so he should theoretically have a good amount of leave time, provided that hes been in and has acrewed it. Also, you get more "free" leave time if you drive rather than fly.
      So the way that my class did it was if they were flying out same day, they waited until closer to 3 or 4 pm to fly out due to the checking out process being a pain! Some others waited until the next day to fly. I believe that everyone had purchased their own tickets though but there will be a day near the end where they set up transportation and he will choose which way to go so I would be sure to stay in communication so you dont both end up buying tickets.

    Hi there! I will be going to ods this September and I was wondering if I will be wearing the dress whites or the dress blues? I thought it would be dress blues since it’s after Labor Day but I just wanted to check!

      @JessandJakii  6 лет назад

      Hi there! You will be wearing your dress blues for graduation and pictures :) Don't forget to get mini medals for them. I brought the big ones and had no idea I would need the mini version as well xD

    When family comes for graduation, can they stay at the Navy Lodge/hotel on base?

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  6 лет назад +1

      They can, but it fills up quick and they go by a ranking order. So people on orders get first dibs, then vacationing military, then civilians. So when I went I was on orders and popped my wife in there while at ODS and they ended up almost cancelling her reservation because some of the tier system. So weirdly enough, mil spouses don't count as mil. But no one had any trouble with their families on graduation day and I think there are at least three hotels on base to choose from.

    • @chino1573
      @chino1573 6 лет назад +1

      Okay, so there was enough space for graduates to invite there families?

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  6 лет назад +1

      Absolutely! I would definitely book early though!

    • @chino1573
      @chino1573 6 лет назад

      Jess and Jakii awesome. Thank you so much. And sorry to bug you, but do you do that online? Or once you’re there? I know I won’t have control over my own time for a while.

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  6 лет назад +1

      You will definitely want to get them a room as soon as possible (I think they only book so far out though, but i'm not sure what time limit it is). If you're putting it under your name you'll need to be there when they check in. Here's the link to make the reservation online: www.navy-lodge.com/lodge_page.html?p_lodge_number=30 . They also have a couple of other hotels on base if that one doesn't work out (this is one of them: www.navymwrnewport.com/programs/d34c8b6c-752f-418d-99b6-bec0d7a49402, I don't remember the name of the other one). Hope this helped!

    Did u graduate with the rank that your recruiter assigned to you or did everyone graduate with Ensign?

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  6 лет назад +1

      Hi there! You get to graduate with the assigned rank :) So it was mostly Ensign but quite a few LTs!

    • @sumar392

      Jess and Jakii
      Okay. And what was your MoS? What is the most common MoS the candidates graduate with? Is there specific Mos that ODS accepts?

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  6 лет назад +1

      Hi there! So a military occupational specialty code (MOS), is just for Army and United States Marines. The Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) system is used in the Navy but for officers it's different and is called a designator. So my designator simplified is Clinical Social Work. The most common designators in ODS are medical, dental, nurse, JAG (law), chaplain, And nuclear. I hope this helped!

      Jess and Jakii
      So are u still in Navy Active?

    • @JessandJakii
      @JessandJakii  6 лет назад

      I think everyone who goes through ODS is obligated to Active Duty time.
