REMINDER: Keep in mind that I had no way to record this in HD and had to use an AV cable for the PS3 to capture this

I heavily disagree, it was way too early for them to do this kind of character thing. It's same as what Shrek was in pre production when they had Chris Farley doing the voice, Shrek's arc was that he wanted to make his parents proud by living by himself, yet that was taken out in favour of him being taken for granted and with no mention of him having parents, and it still worked.
What was in the final movie, still works because you don't have Chloe in the film, to try and tell Buck what would work in best regards to Chicken being a failure, and you can feel their struggle as a father and son because of that, even if Buck is neglectful, he's neglectful for a reason because he doesn't know what to do with his life anymore as his wife is gone and that sets Chicken on a mission to prove to his dad that he and Chloe, made the right decision, giving birth to a son like him.

@@buzzytrombone4353 You are seriously using shrek as an excuse for how this movie's arc worked in the currently film? What the heck do you mean way too early, everyone has different stories for movies.
This movie doesn't work with it's endless pop culture references, hideous animation, the constantly neglectful father especially him not defending his son from the town bullying him, and a lot of annoying characters that just make this film not good.
Yes shrek did use pop culture references but it never constantly shoved it in your face like this movie did.

The 1st reason comes from the DVD commentary (although it has been a while since I watch it) according to the directors they changed Chicken Little to a boy because they thought if you're short and a girl it wasn't a problem, but if you're short and a boy then it's a problem. (Keep in mind that this comes from the DVD commentary that I have not watched in years, so I could get something's wrong here). This storyline is perfect for many reasons, Holly Hunter makes female chicken little sound adorable and like an actual child, the relationship with female chicken little and Buck Cluck is alot better too, plus he is a good loving father who is just concerned for his daughter compared to what we got, the mother being in this makes it more intressting plus she keeps Buck in check, the plot alone sounds very intressting and compared to what we got it sounds great, Mark Dindal was making this for his daughters and he was basing it off of his relationship with his daughters too, overall this seems like it was going to be a sweet, heartwarming movie, how could Michale Esiner say no to this!?. He loves his daughter and who she is, he’s just stressed and doing his best with her issues and supporting his family. It’s like here we have a movie about a father connecting with his child, and learning to be a better father, and they were like nah too boring. We need aliens, and we’ll throw in the father thing as the heavily cut backbone of the movie, which is also somehow an afterthought.

I’ll admit while I don’t really hate the Chicken Little we got, this early version from everything I’ve seen so far honestly looks amazing and really seems like something that’s right up my ally in terms of storytelling, as this early version honestly just looks like the type of movie that was made for me, along with the kinda story I would probably write, it has a society of animals as our main characters, it’s down to earth and relatable, it has very likable characters, it’s very warm, and wholesome, and it overall actually feels more like a Disney movie than the final version does, and I’m not gonna lie if this early version had actually been made there’s a chance it possibly could have been possibly one of my top 10 personal favorite movies from the Disney animated canon, and I guess I have something else to add on my list on cancelled Disney movies I wish would have been made, up there with My Peoples, Kingdom of the Sun, Musicana, Where the Wild Things Are, Chanticleer, Mort, Peter Rabbit, and a couple of others, I would just like to say that Michael Eisner and David Stainton really did done Mark Dindal dirty when scrapping this early version
I really love this version of the main character of Chicken Little as I find her quirky flawed personality a lot more interesting and relatable then the Chicken Little in the final version (though he is definitely one of the things I like the movie we got) as her paranoia of everything and her high maintenance personality honestly just speaks to me more than the final version and really just seems like the type of character that’s right up my alley and a lot like the type of characters I would usually write, I also really love the father in this version as despite being clearly very flawed in his parental abilities you can tell in this that he’s trying his best to help take care of his special child and their relationship is just really sweet and wholesome and is easily way better then the in the version we got who was just neglectful and ashamed of if his special child, I also like how this version actually has an alive mother which honestly helps add more to the down to earth relatability to this family
Now I don’t hate the final version of Chicken Little as much as everyone else does but when you compare that movie to the type of movie we could have gotten it’s a little upsetting and really does sting a little bit seeing how really incredible this original version was and how much potential for an even better movie was completely lost by corporate meddling, and it’s very clear with this early version along with a recent article that director Mark Dindal had far more love and more passion put into this version than he did with the final draft, and I’ve heard that when Mark Dindal was developing this early version he took a lot of heavily inspiration from being a father with his own daughters which I feel just further adds to warm relatability of this version, though not to say that there was no love or passion put into the final draft of the film since I’m pretty sure there clearly was, but it’s very clear that the final draft was mostly the result of executive meddling and was a bunch of random ideas that kept being thrown against the wall until the Disney execs were satisfied with something, and I’ve heard a rumor somewhere that Mark Dindal himself looks back very fondly on this original version and wished he had it things his way with making this version, and it’s a real darn that this was never made as I feel like this early version could have been Mark Dindal’s magnum opus
Though who knows maybe in the future we can have this original version be brought in someway, it be turned into an illustrated storybook, we could have everything involving the early development of this version and stitched together into one coherent narrative and released somewhere, or the original version can be just remade whether in 3D animation or better yet have it be remade in hand drawn animation (I know that will likely never happen but a guy can dream can’t he) and just say that that Holly Hunter’s Chicken Little is the cousin of Zach Braff’s Chicken Little and that Buck Cluck has twin brother or something named Chuck Cluck (which I heard is what they were originally gonna name him), I don’t know just give us this original version in some form somehow.

As a fairy tale nerd, I can assure you this version of Chicken Little gets me. It's a combination of both the typical interpretation of her original fable character, i.e. a perpetually paranoid chicken that's prone to overreacting, with the less common interpretation of her having the mind of a very small child (thus that being the reason for why she thought the sky was falling in a similar way to how, for instance, a toddler thinks there are little men inside the radio). This Chicken Little also shows childlike behaviour, as she "translates" her teddy bear and likes hearing bedtime stories about sailing waffles. Considering the Chicken Little from the 2005 movie is 12-13 years old according to the producers, it could have been actually refreshing to have a main lead with behaviour like that.

I gotta be honest. At first when I was a kid I actually liked this movie, but now as an adult I understand why many people criticize it so much. There's a lot of unfairly cruel things in the final movie, like Chicken Little being always bullied by all the people in his neighborhood and his father being always ashamed of him, no matter the situation, and most of the characters, outside of Chicken Little's friends, are completely selfish jerks. When in original ideas, some of the minor characters like the Turkey Mayor was supposed to be more friendly, at least with Buck (Chicken Little's dad), and Cloe (Chicken Little's mom) was supposed to be an adult who actually support and help Chicken Little with his/her problems, but for some unknown reason they literally killed the character, leaving Chicken Little with no adult support, and the aliens thematic wasn't necesarly a bad idea, but the horrible and cruel execution against Chicken Little in almost the entire movie, was one of the main reasons that this movie was criticize so much by the people in general, and it's a real shame, because Chicken Little had a good potential to be a good furry movie, before Zootopia.
