  • This simple orange drink is commonly referred to as Orangeade. This recipe comes from the Kitchen Guide cookbook which is from 1933. You can get creative and substitute any kind of citrus juice you want into this. The recipe states you can use 1 cup tp 1.5 cups of sugar for the syrup. We only used 1 cup and thought it was sweet enough.
    Orangeade
    4 oranges
    1 lemon
    1 to 1 ½ cups sugar
    3 cups water
    Squeeze the juice from the oranges and lemon, strain (we forgot to strain it). Make a syrup out of the sugar and water. Let cool. Mix the syrup with the juices and serve very cold.

    My grandmother made this in the summer and it is best served ice-cold-it brings out the crisp, refreshing tang of the juices.

    We used to have a soda fountain in our town for a long time. Before the owner closed he told us what makes his orangeade so good. He peels the orange zest and tosses it in the sugar. He said he leaves it overnight then pours the sugar orange zest into the pot with water to cook. That makes a really intense, but not overly sweet orangeade.

      That's a really interesting technique! I love orangeade so I'm definitely going to try that out the next time I make it. Thank you for the tip!

      Good to know. As I was watching this recipe, I was thinking it was a big waste to not be using the peel. There is a lot of flavor in there, and any respectable county fair lemonade is going to be using the lemon zest in the flavoring.

    Wash very good the skin of the fruit and then use the skin (no white if possible) and take the skin and mix it with sugar and let it sit for about 2 hours or more covered on the counter and pull all that flavor out of the skin. Then use this sugar in making your syrup. Mix the orange sugar with your water and bring it just to a boil, and turn it off and let it cool. Once cool ad your fresh squeezed fruit juice and then put in the frigerated. Once cold serve over ice.

    That looks delicious. Do you suppose a person could use the whole Orange/Lemon in a blender for a high pulp yield if they didn't have a juicer? I kinda like to chew my juice.😂🤣🤣

      @TastesSoMuch  3 года назад +1

      Yes I suppose you could blend the fruit if you wanted a chewier juice!

      Honestly, I don't have that much experience with juice preservation. I know there are some orangeade recipes that call for citric acid and I think that can help preserve it. You might want to look up one of those. Good luck!
