A lot of people who are from cities who don't have major sports teams typically become fans of specific players, then they just stick with that team forever. It can even happen with people who are from major cities with teams like you saw with Matthew Mccaugnehey. More often than not tho you'll see it with the famous teams like the Yankees, Lakers, Steelers, Cowboys, etc. But a lot of times it won't make sense to us now because some franchises have gone completely downhill, but a lot of teams had their glory days when people were growing up. Especially the Raiders, the Redskins/Commanders, the Steelers, etc, so it makes sense how some people are fans of teams in cities they're not even from.

Well, I think there are a few exceptions. For instance, if you grew up in an area that doesn't have a team. Or - if you just chose a team as a kid and stuck with them for life. College football is non-existent in NY so in the late 90's as a kid I picked Michigan to be a fan of, mainly because I liked the color of their jerseys. It wasn't until this year that they won a championship.
People who jump ship and just root for who is good, aren't fans.

I disagree. Look at Fan of the Year Tom Grossi. Dude grew up in New York, his dad is a Cowboys fan, and he's been a packers fan since he was a kid. Also I grew up near Chicago, and my dad and I are both Chicago Bears fans, but my brothers aren't. My oldest brother is a Texans fan and my other brother is a Bengals and Saints fan. You can be a fan of any team no matter where you live or who your family are fans of. I just happen to love the city of Chicago and am a fan of all Chicago teams.

I was raised a 49ers fan until the day the Rams announced their return (I was 18). All my teams are from LA and I had to be faithful to the soil. It's the same for international teams, I go for my favorite city.
Raiders were in LA from the 80’s until ‘94 before moving back to Oakland and eventually Vegas. There are a lot of Raiders fans still, as well as other teams because there was 2 decade gap until the Rams returned.

@@willvr4 The Browns moved from Cleveland to Baltimore in '95 when LeBron would've been around 11 years old which is around the age one would begin to understand and follow sports and choose a favorite team. I don't know if this is why he's not a Browns fan, but they definitely weren't in Cleveland during his adolescence.

-LeBron is a "sometimes" Dallas fan. He has shown up to many Browns games. He became a Dallas fan during the time Cleveland's team was STOLEN by Baltimore. Many kids around that time picked up other teams like the ones who wear Black and Yellow, Green Bay or whoever was popular at the time..

I'm not sure if I would agree with Justin Timberlake being the Packers biggest fan. If you ask Packer fans who the biggest celebrity fan is right now, they would most likely say Lil Wayne. He has an entire room in his house decked out in Packer memorabilia, he has brought the team out onto the field for at least 1 game, and he also took the Black and Yellow song by Wiz Khalifa and remixed it to show how much he loves the Packers. Packer fans never really hear anything about Justin Timberlake. Also Simone Biles husband currently plays for the Packers, so she has become a fan favorite.

Matthew McConaughey is actually from Uvalde, TX which is closer to San Antonio than Dallas (it's actually 370ish miles southwest of Dallas). San Antonio doesn't have a professional football team but being as far away from Dallas as he was, it makes more sense that he chose a different team to be a fan of.

I don't really consider Lil Wayne to be a real Packers fan either, he said his dad gave him Packers Super Bowl 31 merch when he was a kid and that's what he gravitated to, but he wasn't a kid in 1997 (I think that was when he released his first album). @willvr4 If you just consider the "pop" genre by itself, and don't compare him to "all" artists, he actually is. Almost 50 million record sales and 8 consecutive top 10 hits on the UK charts. He had a number one album in the UK as recently as 2016. He's 7 or 8 times more popular in Europe and Asia then he is in the United States. In the US, he sort of was a one hit wonder and a meme, but not elsewhere. Kyle Minogue's career panned out the same way - one hit wonder in the US, but a true global superstar.

I'll be anxious to see The Dolphins' most famous fan...probably J-Lo ;) I always thought Taylor Swift was one of the most bizarrely overrated and stunningly dull pop stars imaginable. Her songs suck, she can't dance, she's aging out of her pre-teen audience, I thought she'd go away by now but the whole attachment to the NFL just makes her all the more vomitous. Of course, it won't end well...but the sooner the better.

Yikes... I was never a "swiftie" but comments like this over the past few months kind of turned me into a fan. If you write comments like that in the first place, I doubt you will read this whole thing, but I like to do actual research before I degrade people, even celebrities, on the internet. If I call someone "dull" or insinuate their work is trash, I actually look into them and more than the handful of work I've been exposed to, but that's just me.
Comments like this and A LOT of media coverage made the contrarian in me do my research and... you could be a young girl for all I know, but this makes you sound like an old man that gets all his opinions from Facebook 😂 it surprised me to know that, despite her overexposure the past year, Taylor swift has been a major money-maker and media presence for over 15 years. Her fan base is not even primarily "pre-teen" girls... it's the women in the 20s and 30s that have literally grown up with her and are exposing their children to it as well. The fact that she has written every song she's ever put out is also key to her success and why fans, especially that aforementioned group of adult fans that have grown up with it, feel so strongly.
She'd been relatively quiet for the last 6ish years (yes, despite putting out 3 very critically and sales-wise successful albums) by making an effort to stay out of the limelight. Those 6 years were due to being in a relationship with someone that didn't want the spotlight, which she complied with. This past year, she gave a metaphorical "f it" and decided to just live despite her immense media draw, and honestly, the more I learned, the more I respected that. She's making a whole lot of people a lot of money while doing it, too. Honestly, the bare minimum research into her, the nature of her songwriting (the fact that she's written everything and she doesn't just write pop radio hits, the deep cuts are DEEP), the fact that she's written music for others, etc. show anything BUT a "stunningly dull" pop star. You watch her documentary or the special she did for her album folklore where she breaks down the writing behind each song, and it's clear you're listening to a highly intelligent person.
There's a reason why someone like Bill Belichick, who never comments on "pop culture" crap, felt the need to say something early on in the season when she first started popping up in NFL coverage. He's known her family for years (research Scott Swift) and had nothing but good, genuine things to say. If you hate the NFL exposure, hate on the NFL. She's an extremely popular person world-wide, so anyone with a brain knows why the NFL is showing her, but the amount of anger from old men towards her and not the NFL is hilarious.
