How To Use HDMI ARC Port on LG Smart TVs

- How to connect HDMI ARC feature on LG Smart Televisions. ARC stands for Audio Return Channel and its main purpose is to transport audio from your TV back to your home theater, Sound bar or AV Receiver. Normally this work is done by the optical cable but with ARC there is no need for an extra optical cable. You just use one single HDMI cable. ARC offers two-way communication between the TV and Home Theater over a single HDMI connection. In other words the HDMI ARC port lets you use HDMI as both an input and an audio output.
LG Televisions usually have the ARC feature on HDMI port 2.

Thank you Dominic...that was VERY helpful & easy-to-understand! Wishing you continued success in all your ventures!

This was the only video to actually help me understand how eARC worked. Thank you very much for the great video!

thanks for the video. My installer plugged it into the wrong port on the sound bar.
Glad to help
This is a great video! Thanks for making it. I was checking the HDMI ports on my new TV and it has a "2(eARC/ARC)" HDMI port. I was wondering what it's for. I'll probably never use the feature, unless I get really into gaming with surround sound, but it's good to know the option is there. 🙂
Thanks
nice one, thanks for explaining this simply and clearly!
Really helpful thanks. I bought an Arcana Fury HD box before I had earc pass through. Splits the audio and video for you for non 2.1 TVs.
great job explaining. thank you!
Thanks
One thing to remember....some AV Receivers DON'T have ARC HDMI ports. Not just ANY HDMI port will work. I recently updated my TV to an LG C1 which has ARC. I retired my 12-year old DLP TV (which was still in great working order), but my Denon AV Receiver was just as old (still working great). Unfortunately, I had no ARC HDMI's on the older receiver so I was out of luck. My only choices were to get an optical cable ($14) a new receiver ($700) or suffer through using JUST my TV speaker sound.
I have lg oled c2 and i just purchased a party speaker that has arc hdmi support (zebronics roxor 100) but the minute i connect the speaker via hdmi to the tv, the tv gets muted… ive checked all settings… the audio out device is just as you suggested and all other settings are perfect as well. The speaker is working with my samsung tv… any solution to this? It would be very helpful. Ive tried almost every possible setting.
I have the same problem, did you get it to work?
Exact same issue here
@@aracelyrivera4215 I managed to fix mine by adding an audio optical cable connection from the speaker to tv - while keeping hdmi cable plugged in for the arc. I’ve not heard anyone else advise this as a solution but the optical cable genuinely solved the muting issue for me. If your speaker has an optical port, give it a go
Yes you need to activate SIMPLINK. It is the option directly underneath optical/arc in the sound out menu.
Thank you for this informative video.
Thank you good sir!!
You're welcome
That was really helpful, thank you!
im hoping u see this! I just got the Sony soundbar HYX8500 its hdmi arc and its in the correct hdmi on my tv for arc. But no SOUND ny no name soundbar us hdmi arc as well and works sound plays, settings are all correct but once i plug in the new sony soundbar 0 sound, all settings are correct and hdmi arc all correct. Bluetooth works, tv remote even works with the soundbar but no sound coming out. Ive even tried unplugging, shutting everything off and on etc i have the LG 60UH6030
Great video very easy to understand👍

Hi I have an old HDMI Dolby receiver. Can I send the PS5 video to the LG TV & send the sound through the LG TV to the receiver? Would this work?
I’d love to know this also, I have an old Denon 2113 AVR (with an arc HDMI port) I cannot seem to get it working with the LG CX at all :(

Optical digital to analog converter setting after mute screen coming
I have a LG C1 OLED TV and managed to configure this by connecting the HDMI witch sends video and sound (my PC in this case) on the port 4 witch is 4k compatible and then connecting another HDMI to the port 2 (witch says is ARC), then in my Samsung soundbar instead of plugging into the port where it says "input" I had to plug into the port which says "output ARC" which is not very orthodox. Oh, and in my Soundbar I had to put the input channel TV and not HDMI.
Tnx you so much 😂😂 I was try everything but you need to have te right hdmi port
Please help.MY LG TV I use is HDMI ARC 2.0 and i use a receiver with HDMI ARC 1.4. and in sound output I get only sound in Dolby 2.0 when I select PCM y if choose trasfer or automatic the sound i get is garbled.
Is this because of my receiver?
I understand I can not get Dolby Atmos because my receiver nor the tv is Dolby Atmos but I should get Dolby digital 5.1 through HDMI. Right?
My new LG OLED isn't working. I put in an HDMI cable into the LG "EARC #2 HDMI port, ran it to my Sony receiver which did work with my Sony Bravia, into the "ARC TV out" port. No sound. Simplink has already worked and will shut off my receiver when I shut off the TV. Any idea if buying a new HDMI hi speed cable will solve the problem? Or should I just get an optical cable and try that?
same problem for me. When I connect with my LG UQ7550 tv with sony home theatre dav tz 145 with 2.1 HDMI ARC Cable and also I tried in TV Settings it does not worked for me. I am not getting the output sound any idea?
Please advise if this system will work with a tv that hasnt got ARC?
My LG c1 keeps defaulting back to tv speakers. I'm sick of having to go back into settings to change to arc all the time 😓
For me, arc first worked, after i update firmware of tv, it didn't work also even if i connected sound bar with tv using other more like aux, it again goes to internal tv speaker mode. So bad
Hi Dominic, how do you connect Apple TV box to an LG 55uj6540 and a Sorround Sound receiver? I had the AppleTV hdmi to the receiver’s hdmi1 input and then the receiver eARC hdmi to the tv ARC hdmi port. However, I had to reset the tv and this setup wouldn’t work anymore. After a couple hours fight I came up connecting Apple TV to lg hdmi input and then, lg ARC hdmi to receiver eARC hdmi. This setup works fine but I am wondering what happened that the original setup didn’t work after the tv reset.

It's more or less the same as what I've explained in the video
My soundbar only has optical, will that work?
optical and HDMI arc are two different things. So, the answer is that it won't work.
Hi, I connected LG tv with 5.1 soundbar...it's playing through PCM, however when auto is selected...it's not...the sound quality is good on auto mode....how to fix this problem (HDMI ARC)...pls help...both TV and soundbar have ARC ports
I have sound but no video? Do you have suggestions?
Thanks please can you help with an Issue: My LG turns off ARC when I plug in a second HDMI device like DVD player. ARC works fine with my Soundbar but when I plug in DVD to either the TV or to the sound bar the sound out put auto switches to TV and Optical and turns off ARC out. How can I fix this. In order to watch TV I have to pull all other HDMI cables out.
I have an LG smart tv and Boat Avante. And when I connect it with ARC it still doesn't work.
Sometimes HDMI CEC and ARC doesn't work across different brands. Ideally it should work
My HDMI Arc with a new LG OLED55A1 AUB TV quit working - so no soundbar works with the TV now. (It worked fine a couple of months ago). I was just on the phone for nearly 2 hours with LG Support - and they couldn't resolve the issue. They wanted me to try the soundbar on another TV with HDMI ARC. I did this and it immediately worked! I suspect that an LG firmware change has made the HDMI ARC not work. I guess the LG TV goes back to the store.
For me also the same. After updating firmware of tv, hdmi connectivity to sound bar not working
I bought a new brand Detachable sound bar on Amazon. I connected it to my LG tv, why there is only static noise? I connected them through ARC port.
My sound bar has a ARC port, And the TV show a ARC input.
Why didn't work?
I have questions that I want to ask again and again when I bought this htg 700. Will my tv lg oled c1 both sound at the same time? It has earc support. You said that you need to close an adjustment in the bidet, if you tell me how it closes, I would be happy. Finally, do you recommend sony ht s40 r dolby digital 600 w 5.1 or does htg 700 have arc support but no earc on it

1.- no sé si sea por el cable HDMI
2.- Conseguí un cable HDMI-CEC high speed, pero tampoco tengo salida de audio, queda en mute la televisión… solo por bluetooth si hace la conectividad
Hello. Just a a few questions.
1. Is the HDM cable connection to the ARC port?
2. Does your JBL have any settings the require you to enable CEC

1.- yeah, i Connect the port ARC, (TV and sound bar)
2.- i ask for supplier JBL, for the conection with TV… too, i asked for the CEC

I can't believe I missed that there is a dedicated ARC HDMI port. I spend 30 minutes troubleshooting why I can't get ARC audio. Turns out, I was in one of the two side HDMI ports (1&2), but the ARC port is HDMI3 and is on the back of the TV.

@@kennethmanuputty9865 yes, I've have observed that 1 out of 3 times the home system does not work. So all I have to do is shut the entire system off and turn it on again for it to work. You have to let the speaker boot up completely (it takes a little time). It takes 3 blinks before it's ready to use. Now all you have to do is choose the TV output option as HDMI. Wait for like a minute or so and you're good to go.
@@kennethmanuputty9865 HDMI will give you the best output from your system. It's worth the switch.

You are giving incorrect information. 'ARC' is just about available on all current Tv's. And has been available since 2009. It isn't JUST only on LG select smart tv's as you have it @ :51.
I think the funny part is YOU show multiple TV's manufacturer showing the ARC port...
Hey Dominic, what does the "ARC" button on the service remote do? I'm having home theater sound problem with my LG PF1500. I think it is because of the HDMI port 1 with ARC.
Nevermind. Just found out what is it for. Nothing to do with Audio Return Channel. It's for selecting the size of the main screen. I guess that makes more sense.
That's exactly what it does across many models
@@DominicGichane Thanks for the reply. I do have another question, not sure if you know anything about the LG PF1500 projector, but it's worth a shot to ask. I have the Korean model, the LG PF1500 KR to be exact. I was never able to change to country code or service country on this thing. Went into the service manual and the country code is "01" and cannot be changed. Tried everything, including upgrading the firmware, the current firmware is quite old. The final and latest firmware on this model is 03.00.17. My machine still has 03.00.09. Still, every time I check for updates, it tells me that it is up to date. Then I tried to USB update. It does not automatically read the 'epk' file. I followed all of the instructions. I tried to install the 03.00.10 before the 17, still, it would even take the 10. Contacted LG support and they were of no help. Just kept telling me to do a hard reset, which doesn't seem to do much. I know it can be changed or at least the firmware and WebOS can be updated, I saw a Koren youtube video with a guy (looks to be a Korean service center) talking about it in Korean (I don't speak Korean) and he turns the machine on (PF 1500 KR) and it has the new firmware and WebOS.
If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Hi I purchased lg sc9s sound bar in India.
I didn't get output as you mentioned in the vdo TV hdmi arc to sound bar hdmi earc , but I got output when I connected it with optical cable. What may be the reason for no output from the sound bar. ?

Optical TOSLINK has a top bandwidth of 125Mbits not 384Kbits/s
That's good stuff. Optical is good enough for Dolby Digital. Just doesn't support Dolby Atmos or DTS X.
Hola Dominic. Una consulta: Qué tipo de cable HDMI me recomiendas usar para conectar los puertos HDMI ARC de mi TV LG y del otro dispositivo?
Any HDMI cable will work with ARC. For eARC use Ultra High-Speed HDMI cables with Ethernet

You make it sound like more than one cable is needed to connect a TV to a soundbar using Optical. That's not correct of course. Are you actually just trying to say people most likely already have an HDMI cable, so no need to buy an optical cable?
Mine does not say Arc what the heck LG?
Não está em português
My Lg smart tv throught ARC with not play Double Digital +, from what I have read, DD+ via optical is muted due to optical only being 5.1 and DD+ being able to do up to 7.1 so they mute the audio BUT heres the thing with the LG's or the older LG smart tvs anyway, the ARC and Optical audio option is combined so when you select it and play DD+ it will also mute the ARC via HDMI even though HDMI can handle 7.1. I hate you LG.
