An adapter arbor press is much better than a drill press in my opinion :) Good video...

Definitely mate, I've tried it on my drill press at the beginning but I was seeing my drill press flexing!

Never knew Dracula was into Luthierie. Just kidding. On a serious note. Do you prefer to pre cut each fret to length before pressing them in? Or do you you do the press and then cut method? Ive done both and i think i prefer to cut then press but i leave them a little long. Which then makes me a little anxious when bevelling. Any tips or secrets on how to make it all an easier process. I use my bench top drill press as my fret press. The caul goes right into the chuck and it is handy.

I cut and install, and I leave around 3/5mm overhang. Before I start beveling I trim them shorter and file them flush but being very careful though. After that I bevel.

Nice short video (and +1 for the non-agressive music :D). You said "converted the press into fret press", it's because of size of hole to insert the tool or just work "as is" ? (my metal drilling equipment is... amateurish ? cheap as hell ? :p )

The ram on the arbor press is not meant to take a fretting coul, so I just needed to drill a holin the end of the ram to accommodate the fretting coul.

Hi, thanks for your video. What happens with the arbor press when we have a big body guitar with set on neck (no bolt on, so we can't remove the neck). Is the arbor press jaw distance large enough to allow to press frets on the end of the fretboard, when the neck meets the body? thanks!

Some models you might be able to sort out some sort of setup but usually the last frets you might have to hammer them in.

Arbor press (not drill press) is by far the best way to go. But you definitely want to use quality cauls, not the cheapy ones from China. They are not accurate.

An informative video thanks, can you tell me what the issue was with using a drill press to press frets?

In my case, the drill press was bending every time I was applying pressure to the frets. Mind you, I don't have a heavy duty drill press. It's just that if you find a cheap arbor press and convert it to a fret press, you might be prolonging you drill press life.

My drill press always wobbled. I adapted an arbor press and it's much better...
