What are the adventurous things to do in Valmiki Tiger Reserve?
1. Rafting in the Gandak: Although several little streams and rivers cut their way across the Tiger Reserve, the Gandak river is best for rafting. With its rapids alternating between mild and fast-paced, the rafting experience here promises to be quite the happening one. The river commands excellent views of the surrounding landscapes as well, making this activity a good way to explore the beauty of the place.
2. Trek to Someshwar Peak: Named after the eponymous Someshwar Temple that it houses, a trek to the Someshwar Peak is one of the most popular of adventurous things to do in Valmiki Tiger Reserve. The trek is riddled with some beautiful temples and viewpoints as well.
3. Elephant Safari: A unique way to explore the forests, the elephant safari takes you through the heart of the jungle on elephant back. The group tour is a completely guided one, and lets one get up close and personal with the wildlife at the Reserve.
4. Jeep Safari: Offering equal measures of adventure and entertainment, the jeep safari is a fun group tour through the jungles of Valmiki. The safari takes you through some of the jungle’s deepest corners, promising excellent views of the wildlife here.
5. Manor Trek: A fairly easy trek, this 1.5 kilometer long trail to Manor Tower is ideal for those looking to explore the natural splendor of the Reserve on foot.
What is the best time to visit Valmiki Tiger Reserve?
2. The Valmiki Tiger Reserve remains open to the public between 1st October and 31st May of each year. Within these months, the best time to visit the Reserve is during wintertime, from November to February. The weather during this time remains cool and pleasant, making it ideal for safaris and other sightseeing sports.
How to reach Valmiki Tiger Reserve?
By Air: The nearest airport to the Reserve is in Patna, which is about 295 kilometers away. Patna is well connected to the rest of the country by flight. From here, one must either hail a hired car or a bus to reach Valmiki Nagar.
By Rail: The nearest railway station to the Reserve is in Valmiki Nagar, which is well connected to major cities such as Varanasi, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata. One can reach the Reserve by foot.
By Road: The Tiger Reserve is well connected to its surrounding areas by road, and one can easily avail a bus from any nearby destination to here.
