Bodycam: U.S. Soldier Allegedly Stalked TikTok Girl, Abandoned Military to Be Her ‘Soulmate’

  • Bodycam footage shows Florida deputies confronting a man outside the home of an unnamed TikTok star in May after she called the police out of fear. She told the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office that Ky-Van Cai repeatedly rang her doorbell after showing up unannounced. Cai, a then-active member of the U.S. Army, went AWOL from the military to travel from California to Florida to be her “soulmate.” Law&Crime’s Elizabeth Millner breaks down Cai’s arrest.

The TikToker, who has over 1.5 million followers, said Cai was allegedly stalking her since January using different social media accounts. Cai told deputies he had a “personal” relationship with her and had “visions about her” being his soulmate. He also allegedly believed the woman was “directing her social media posts toward him.” Deputies noted the victim was “shaking” when she gave them her statement and it was “clear” Cai made her fear for her safety. Cai was taken into custody on a charge of aggravated stalking.

My best friend snapped at 19 years old. Schizophrenia usually takes ahold 17 to 25 yea4s old. My friend was 32 years old when , a couple months back , he lite himself on fire. He burned for 4 whole minutes… he Survived for 4 days burned down to his organs on 90% of his body until infection took him out. This isn’t “ definitely schizophrenia “ . It’s probably not actually. Theres many mental disabilities that could cause this. As far as schizophrenia goes, He’s far too coherent for us to say it’s 100% schizophrenia. Schizophrenics talk in a word soup, they don’t make rational sense at points. This guy is too with it for us to sit here and say oh it’s 100% schizophrenia. It could be the very beginning of schizophrenia but It could be many other forms of mental illness. This happens all the time. Some random gets obsessed with said celebrity. Think they’re talking to them etc etc. it’s not always schizophrenia. He makes WAY TOO much sense for it to be schizophrenia. Main aspect is he still picks up on social scenarios. He knows this is weird. If he was a full blown schizophrenic he wouldn’t.

The sad thing is this happens to so many women and they have to fight for years to get police to react - I've heard/watched segments/listened to news about women who went on a single date, met a man briefly on a train or bus, or merely met someone online once and they wind up being stalked for months, years, decades - stricter laws and punishment regarding stalking are needed.

I watched a UK police fly-on-the-wall documentary series a couple of years ago where the police officers actually said to the stalking victim "Have you tried giving him a chance? Perhaps if you agreed to go on a few dates with him he’d stop bothering you?" 🤬
The British police repeatedly refuse to take stalking seriously, and every time it results in the murder of yet another victim, the Home Secretary holds a press conference and says "lessons will be learned", but nothing ever changes at all.

@@chris3325 "Typically" being the key word here though. Schizophrenia usually takes hold after puberty. Most people are diagnosed in their late teens to early 30s, so he’s still well within the right age range. While it’s true that men tend to get it slightly earlier (on average, men are diagnosed in their late teens to early 20s; women tend to get diagnosed in their late 20s to early 30s), people rarely develop schizophrenia before they're 12 or after they're 40, so he’s definitely still at the right age to develop this. Someone needs to get him help. Him writing that her rejection makes him stronger is a huge warning sign. It reminds me of the case 1989 when that creep stalked the actress Rebecca Schaeffer from my Sister Sam. She was murdered when he came to her apartment with a letter and picture she had sent him as a fan. Then she told him not to come back. He went and had something to eat and came back. When she opened the door she wasn't happy to see him. He pulled a gun and shot her in the chest. She never had a change. Her death was what got federal law regarding the release of personal information through the DMV was changed. The Driver's Privacy Protection Act, which prevents the DMV from releasing private addresses, was enacted in 1994. Schaeffer's death also helped prompt the 1990 passing of America's first anti-stalking laws, including California Penal Code 646.9.[

@@Citrusfruits50 I remember hearing Pam Dawber who played Sam in the series talk about how devasted she was over the loss. Remember Theresa Saldana she was in played the wife in Commish. Had flim parts in Defiance and Raging Bull. A guy from Scotland saw her in those two movies and got fixated on her. Her stalker use the same method that Rebecca 's did. They hired a private invesigator that got the information from motor vehicle records. Theresa's was able to obtain her mother's unlisted phone number. Called pretending to be an assistant to Martin Scorsese and needed her daughter's address to get her for a part. So in March 1982 he approached her in front of her building and stabbed her with a knife. Puncturing her lung and stabbing her a total of 10 time. There were people around but when she screamed a deliveryman on the 2nd floor of her apartment and rushed down to help her. She was in the hospital 4 month. Saldana founded the Victims for Victims organization and participated in lobbying for the 1990 anti-stalking law and the 1994 Driver's Privacy Protection Act, both of which came into being partly as a consequence of the attack. I don't know if some of the social influencers remember these cases and they put everything online. There are so many crazy people.
