This is a great idea for smaller imperfections and I found this video while looking for a remedy to my issue. However, I just found my Cattleman in the back seat footwell of our car. Folded sharply in a few places on the brim with the crown squashed all out of shape after our 3 year old took it off her car seat (where I put it while I was driving), put it on the floor and walked all over it getting in and out of the car for a few days. I was pretty close to just ordering a new one due to how out of shape it was but thought I'd give the old 'saturate and wear' trick a try first. I filled our laundry sink with straight hot water and submersed the hat completely until it was saturated (about 2-3 minutes). During that time it regained its shape almost completely. I needed to manipulate the crown just a little bit to even it up. I put it on my head dripping wet and wore it until it was dry. Good as new... The band had shrunk a little over the years as well but this also made the band a nice, snug fit around my head. Even if your hat is a little tight, this will stretch the band just the right amount and make it comfortable again. I should've made a video just to show how well it worked. I was sceptical but the hat was ruined otherwise so I had nothing to lose.

I've heard 2 stories of people doing that and it doing wonders! Did you fully submerge it to the point even inside the hat was filled with water?

Great tip! I tried it with my black Bogart which was squashed flat by a customs officer who carelessly repacked my bag after inspecting my unaccompanied luggage following a flight delay. (The lesson is to always wear your hat on the plane!) Two minutes in pretty hot water in the laundry sink took all the dents out. The crown creases popped back to where they had been originally. I stuck it on my head, wore it for about ten minutes and reshaped it by feel and inspection, then hung it on the washing line to dry completely. Good as new! I was going to send it off to get re-blocked. Now there's no need - saved over $100. Thanks Gavin!

I hold my iron over the hat and pump the steam out as much as required. Super quick and effective.

That hat looks ruined. I’ll be happy to take it off your hands, so you can clear out some space in your shop. No problem at all.
