I gave birth to my first child 9 days ago. The first couple days were so painful, swollen cracked bleeding nipples. Until i found this latching-technique online and after 2 days the pain was gone and my nipples healed! Breastfeeding is painless now. Thank you for sharing this information, it's so important.

What to do if baby doesn't open her mouth wide enough for aeriola part to go in... Been struggling with latch for a month and have sore nipples and painful breast😢

I am not sure if this will help or not but babys have a rooting reflex which is automatic , I learned to run my finger on their cheek or right by the corner of their lips, it makes them turn towards the nipple and open their mouth very wide they will open wide at that point you can pop it on in. Here’s another really good resource for tips on latching. She’s so great!

I am 60 yrs old, my babies are grown.
I am just now learning breastfeeding techniques that I did not know about when my babies were born.
I never knew of such things and no one ever showed me such things.

The video goes in great length to explain how the baby is _supposed_ to act.
It is all nice and easy when you're showing it on a knitted breast and a baby doll.
Unfortunately the video gives no advice on _how to actually make_ the baby change the latch, except for "try as many times as it takes until you get it right".

He doesn't open his mouth widely unless he is crying.

Same for me. If I put his chin to my breast first and his nose to nipple, I can’t get my nipple under his top lip. 5 weeks in and hoping it gets easier.

I’ve been excruciatingly breastfeeding everyday for 2 months. I mean yelling when he latches and crying. I’ve been latching him wrong this entire time and no one was telling me. Thank you 😪

I had multiple midwives (one was a lactation consultant too) tell me my bub was latched on fine when he clearly wasn't. Outwardly it looked alright but when I latched him correctly the first time it was amazing. It still hurt a bit at the beginning from the cracks and sores. I'm grateful I only went 4 days doing it, they were injured so quickly so I can't imagine what you've been going through.

@@GothiqueFate omg same with me. The people and even lactation consultant at the hospital said: "Beautiful latch" and I KNEW it wasn't right because it hurt.

😭😭😭 it's hard. I had finally gotten it right and then something changed and my baby is now pinching every time. Not opening her mouth big enough and lunging at me. Also my supply dropped a lot over the past week .. Maybe bc of improper latch and bc I stopped pumping several times a day -.- my baby will be 2 months on Saturday.

Thank you for this! I’m going to try these techniques. Only problem is my baby gets frustrated then starts to cry if I keep unlatching her. And she thrashes her head around. But I want to get this right 😭😭
Mi also have very large breasts and areolas so it’s hard to gauge this. But the top part of my nipple is definitely pinched.
