- Despite almost permanently losing her voice and battling serious illness in the hospital, Canadian singer-songwriter Shania Twain is back with her sixth album ‘Queen Of Me’. The Country music icon sits down with Zane Lowe to describe the health challenges she's faced, and she's come out of it with perspective and gratefulness for life, reflected in her new music.
Shania Twain explains how songwriting and music are her way of self-medicating and escaping from reality. Having almost lost the ability to do both, she now has a new perspective on her whole life. Shania Twain and Zane Lowe discuss her new album ‘Queen Of Me’ and what it means to her as she continues to change the country music scene as a successful singer and songwriter.
In addition to the challenges she's faced over her decades in the industry, she also touches on highlights, like changing the meaning of "Country" and recently surprising fans at Coachella with Harry Styles.

I would just like to say, this was the BEST interview with Shania in YEARS. Maybe even ever. Everyone always asks her the same ten questions and gets the same ten answers and a little teaser and that’s it. As part the “Up!” generation, as Shania says (I was born in ‘97), I grew up with her music and have always felt a connection to the music as a whole, and this interview really felt like it got more into the heart of who she is as a person, as a writer, as someone who has been through and seen, done, and endured so much, which I really appreciated. I feel like that about most of Zane’s interviews but this one is above the rest. I am so excited about this new record!

Born in 91, grew up in the country of Oklahoma and Montana so many of Shania’s songs have colored my childhood. I watched her documentary last night and this today. It’s felt me with so many emotions. I love seeing her come back through!!! She’s as magic as ever.

My husband is disabled and went into respiratory failure 5 years ago. I watched as they intubated him; he flat-lined for 11 minutes. He survived, and Shania's comment about the importance of air really touched me. In those moments when he was saying 'I can't breathe' and then one last gasp before there was no air, and he came back from that. It truly was a miracle. Thanks, Shania for the gratitude and celebration that you describe in this interview.

Fascinating that she’s gotten to a place where she would be willing to have a purely professional relationship with Mutt. 🤯 Good for her. Took the opportunity to watch this interview this morning while making breakfast and cleaning up and even eating breakfast and really enjoyed the whole process. At the edge of my emotions Shania, I have to say, thank you for these new songs. Got my record on the way and can't wait to play all of your new songs. Was telling this kid struggling to learn how to weld how it took me 4 years to get good at refinishing and selling furniture and I told him, the reason it took so long is because I was just too stubborn. I wouldnt just listen to others and learn from their experience and it wasn't until I just took this time to listen and absorb and learn from others to finally grow this new skill. I told him that's what you have to do brother, listen to the welding instructor and just follow the guidelines and he lit up, that's what he needed to hear. Anyways, I think is learning to appreciate letting his stubbornness go and I hope to see him grow at welding. It was a wonderful interview Shania and Zane. Both of you have a wonderful day. And for me, it's time to get back to it! 🚀 until the next time...

It's sad that she says she feels she may never find stability at 12:50 because even as I watch her in the interview and hear her speak and talk about being so restless and exhausting to herself, I was literally thinking up to that point that it looks like she needs a massage and to completely de-stress and be in this space for a long time. Whether it's permanent or a vacation or simply building a life now that allows for that at home, she seems that she needs to de-stress much as possible and find that peace of stability, silence and relaxation for herself. Self-care and healing. But it's so good to see her. Such a talent and legendary artist.

This gentleman is one of the best interviewers I have ever seen. He put Shania completely at ease and carried on in a more conversational way, rather than just one mundane question after another. He also wasn't afraid to ask her about Mutt. I think he got more from her because he showed respect for her and her work. Great interview.

Wonderful talk with Shania. Zane seems to make the person he’s interviewing relaxed and love how he focuses on their talent. The talk of asthma and Covid hits close to home. I have asthma and the Covid virus has scared me very much. I’m glad Shania made it thru a very scary time ….asthma alone is scary.

Great interview. I love Shania. Read her book years ago. I was the Assistant to the Owner of the Motor Coach company in OR she bought her touring Coach from and she bought rows of tickets for employees to see her show in Portland. I also saw her Coach when it was in for a tuneup and refresh after the tour and saw those tiny tennis shoes and the romance novel by the bathtub with candles and thought how Sweet. So glad she got her voice back and recovered from Covid experience. She has been through a lot in her life. Such a beautiful talented human being.
