Tip 1 -> Have a fire extinguisher
Tip 2 -> Have an air conditioner so you do not die toasted
Tip 3 -> Beware of explosion hazard of vrm
Lol
Gabriel Braga Did say get 3rd degree burns being near your computer?
Tip 3 -> use liquid nitrogen for general office tasks.
Toasty !!!...lol
Tip 5 -> Hit up Doc, and get a Flux Capacitor for the 1.21 Gigawatts that this thing is pulling
Definitely want that ram OC video
YES PLEASE
YES!
OMG - YES PLS!
With dominator platinum please
Yes please. Memory OC is one of the most difficult OCs to master. It takes a lot of digging into to find what parameters matter and what don't, and also what potential benefits I can get out of optimizing a certain parameter.
This means that Intel endorses overclocking, so you can use this to argue for your warranty to qualify.
or this could be another way to lure us into overclocking, thus nullifying the warranty and buy another cpu. profit 2x.
Koushik Shom Choudhury stonks
Exter they do, but you need the overclocking warranty!! Lol
I downloaded 3 cores from internet. Now i have 7core i7 2600. Downloading 16GB RAM atm. Its gonna be one hell of a PC
SSD was downloaded from WD
you probably watched that Thiojoe tutorials gj man
BAMbit TV Lol this does sound like something Thiojoe would say 😂
Thiojoe was a legend. You guys made me motivated. M downloading a 144 hz 4K LED too. THanks guys love u
What kind of complete idiot finds this amusing
YES. We want OC guide for Ram.
Chronyk just download better ram
Yeah that'd be better than this useless i9 video even tho they never explain shit well
Download Jigaherts for ram ok.
yes please, an xmp guide for manual ram tuning and overclocking would be really helpful, especially for us amd ryzen users and ram compatibility/stability issues. thanks is advance
Well i would recommend a G.Skill TridentZ 3600 (or any other Samsung B-Die Kit) and clock it to 3466 on the lowest possible latency!
Youre perfomance will increase more than 20% against a 2666 CL16 kit and more than 10% compared to a 3600 CL16 kit.
If you do that a Ryzen 1700 will beat the 7700K@5GHz even in nearly every Game!
Don Guru de Bro lmao that liar 7700k have more fps man ^^ intel are better for gaming amd for application
This channel can only post very basic manuals because of its target audience, for example someone buying an X299 platform would already know everything that could be found in this video. If they were to put up a Ryzen ram overclocking video, the most you can expect is an advice to change your SoC voltage and procODT termination, which is not even close to the amount of settings you need to keep in mind.
agreed
Even on Intel we have stability issues with RAM tuning
Definitely want that RAM frequency tuning video. Especially since I have been having stability issues when XMP was active.
Rankhole I turned mine off
Yeah always have the same sadly, xmp never really works.
Probably the best content this channel's put out in a fair while. Glad to see some legitimately valuable content coming from you guys again.
But a core i9 costs more than my entire pc
Jimmy Tries World hell yea
*car
Costs more than my CAR!
Get a real PC
what is a "real pc" fuckface?
Reminds me of FX cpus especially that oven, FX 9590 :D
VaJohn that cpu was trash I quickly switched to a 3770 cpu
8350 here, fucking 100 mhz boost already from 75 to 80
I mean what cooler? I probably wouldn't suggest you go over 4500mhz or so, not sure on the voltage
even overclocked , the 9590 and 8150 never reached anywhere near what an OC i9 pulls . But to be fair , these chips actually perform.
lmao ryzen is hot trash
"you asked for it"
"Sponsored by Intel"
he tried
Intel: can we sponsor an Overclocking guide?
Linus: *welcome to our Threadripper overclocking guide sponsored by Intel!*
Please make a video on tuning ram frequency!!!
Please do video about RAM tuning
You should do one that's not made for people living in Antarctica.
Just integrate your PC to central heating system.
🤣
A new OC guide would be nice! I love the way you manage to pick out the most important parts, and explain them understandable for not so tech people like me
Who even asked for that? Who even bought that? Are you teasing? Can I cry now?
Probably Intel asked for it because they sponsored it :P
"You asked for it!" then "Sponsored by Intel"
did we really ask for it?
fuongbregas well you could, but then you wont have money to pay the bills.
I think he means you asked for it like a punishment.
yeah my mate got an I9 he's in IT security so he uses it to run a lot of VMs
Wow!!! So Intel made a cpu that uses as much power, as r9 295x2, or maybe even a Pro Duo. Nice job Intel. You beat AMD, at their own game.
I have been using i9 7900x ,asus deluxe x299 and RL360 RGB Water Cooling system for couple of months but my motherboard temperature is always remain 45 degree Celsius. is the temperature ok ? if it is not then plz let me suggest
Finally the Noctua D15 has been out for a long time and you guys kept using and mentioning the D14 still. Glad to hear the D15 get a mention here.
Step 1 - Make sure you live in the arctic, with no heating.
Step 2 - Make sure you have 86,000$ for the cpu.
Step 3 - Proceed.
YES PLEASE TUNING RAM TIMING MANUALLY!!
linus stop commenting on your own vids...
first time for years this is not an easy overclocking experience but will be an amacing one when done >)
Thank you for detailed and yet simple guide. Did the bios way on my x299 deluxe, noctua D15, 10920x @4.6 all cores stable and nice boost!
"We recommend changing CPU Ratio to 'By Specific Core'!"
Proceeds to set all core ratio settings the same value.
Yeah that confused me a little bit. I wish he'd explain that step better. Shouldn't he be overclocking the asterisked cores slightly higher?
Linus gets a plus not a minus because him and his crew work hard for us to give perfect videos BTW his advice from videos saved my butt more than once
Nice to see a more serious video for a change. Thanks guys.
Hi Linus. Thanks for your guides. I followed this for my 10940x (on Asus Prime Edition 30 with Dark Rock Pro 4) but was sad to see that disabling CPU SVID support lead to it getting temps of around 106degrees across most cores in Cinebench and CPU-Z bench (the processor is rated for 87degrees) ... I was quite conservative with my overclock (45 ratio, 0.07 adaptive voltage offset), yet it didn't perform well at all. I removed all overclocks. as I was concerned with this result... Now HWMonitor consistently reports very high core temps at idle (70degrees plus, though the package remains at 45-47 at idle.) Idle seems a few degrees hotter in general than before though. However, in HWInfo64 the core temps look in line with the package temp or less. Should I be worried about this? Also, is it worth me reseating my cooler and applying some new paste? something feels wrong... I'm concerned that turning off that CPU SVID support has lead to me damaging the CPU. :(
If you or anyone else could help me, it would be so much appreciated. Thanks!
Ram video pls
I'd rather have an 8700k
Zeus 999 Ive to wait 7 fucking weeks to get one.
GeWard Now i feel even more frustrated:(
I love mine!
Mine's coming in tomorrow, should've turned on auto notify, they were in stock for a whole day a few days ago. Before that they were in stock for less than an hour before going out of stock again.
Zeus 999 i have waited now for almost 2 weeks...
YES!
Make a tuning RAM manually vid. That be great!
Ram tuning guide please, thank you! There are plenty of other guides out there but seeing one with LTT level of production value would be nice and definitely open the door to more people doing it.
I would post a clever comment, but no-nut November is clogging my brain
Giant Asian Sticker common problem. Get a air cooler, to cool the the shit down
congrats I lost after a week
I failed so quickly at this...
I forgot about it xd
aw shit, i thought it was NUT November...
2:17 _You'll wan't a lot of it unffff_
Thank you! I couldn't get Premiere Pro or AME working without a BSOD with my i9 7900x build, now it's stable after following this guide and using your settings.
Yes please do a video on ram timings and overclocking. Great content recently!
RAM OC guide pls. I need to OC my DDR2 866mhz to DDR4 3000mhz ASAP!
Timothy Shell dont need to overclock it, just download some!
you poor boy
My ddr2 rich 1866mhz :)
Should of had a results comparison with the Asus EZ Tuning Wizard and the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility.
I have the same mobo and CPU as your test bench, this worked perfectly. Thanks Linus.
Thanks very much, it is great to get an explanation for every step.
what power supply calc was linus using?
this one: www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator
but i recommend that one: outervision.com/power-supply-calculator
ItsMyCheese r u eating your own ass or that's is the 69 ?
linus overclocking? what could go wrong?!
He could drop the voltages
I was about to say that
I think it would be nice if someone made a video explaining every single option available in the bios. Because sometimes the descriptions in the bios are not simply understood by the common user. I guess that would be difficult to do considering all the different motherboard manufacturers with different menus
Nice video. I would love more videos like this, in depth and detail overclocking and tweaking guides.
MageThief you want more satanist linus tech
Also lets see manual RAM timing n' stuff guide!!
Itay Ziv yeah ram timing and speed would be great
so what did that thing pull from the wall while gaming? Is it a nice room heater during the winter?
Why are you using an 18c for gaming?
I'd love to see a manual Ram Frequancy setting video.
The more you know!
I would definitely like to see a video on tuning memory timings manually! :)
9:40 says i7-7900X on task manager?
Maybe they were validating another CPU and reused the video
lol yup it is
It is because the cpu has not been "certified" for windows. So they use it as a 7900. There is no correspondance for 9 series on windows right now. It is just numbers.
3:38 It says i7-7900X on the bios
Because that's what they're using, if you notice there are also 10 cores in the BIOS when they're tweaking everything.
I need a guide on how to upgrade my 486-DX2 66mhz. Any help?
1. Buy b350 mobo and ryzen 7 1700
2. Done
Lmfao!! A 486? That should be in a historical museum!!
a 5x86 would be fine
AShifter I would start with an 32MB SDRAM module
Thanks 🙏 Linus very nice, it’s video like 2-3 years ago. Very nice tips !! ✌️
A fan from France 🇫🇷
Thank you so much
"you guys asked for it"
And
"sponsored by intel"
So which is it?
You guys at intel asked for it
It's still neat to see, but yes that does seem problematic. Since they ignore so many other requests, intels sponsorship likely played a major part in this video being made.
- Guys ask : Overclock video
- Linus ask : Intel would you sponsor this video?
Intel says yes and Linus makes the video guys requested...
Not that hard to figure it out.
Justin Liu yeah not the biggest coincidence ever I'd say
same profile
Holy shit this fixed my 7700k temps issue. Before: 5.0Ghz oc = 98c temps on package at 100%. After= same oc but 78c max temp. I've had the same 240mm aio cooler as well. This video is a godsend for someone who doesn't know about oc
JRX6 I have a 7700K too. Did you use their exact same BIOS configuration? Or what are your settings? Aside from that, is your machine stable? I got mine up to 4.9GHz, good Temps but it would crash sometimes when rendering video =(
Simon Vega 1.37v stable at 5Gzh and I used the recommendations for bios settings as this video since I have an Asus mobo
JRX6 cool, thanks man! I'll give it a shot. I have an Asus MoBo too so I'll copy these setting as well. Do let me know if you configured something differently from this video for your 7700K (apart from the voltage you stated voltage and multiplier at 50x)
update: getting random stability crashes while gaming and regular use. same settings, nothing messed with but I dropped the overclock to 4.9Ghz @ 1.32v guess I didn't win the silicon lottery
YES on wanting a video on RAM tuning and timings.
I would love a video on manually tuning RAM frequency and timings. It would be so helpful!!! Thanks!
PLEASE make a ram timing and frequency guide. If 16gb of ram cost anywhere from 200-260 on new egg... then I am gonna sqweeze ever last drop of performance as I can...
I would really like a RAM overclocking guide for ryzen..
i want a ram overclocking guide in general i dont get it
you need to:
1) Increase frequency (duh)
2) Increase Voltage (also duh)
3) try, if it wont work increase latency (more complex I am too lazy to explain look it up)
Unknown Gamer It's not that simple especially on Ryzen. Ryzen only supports up to 3200mhz. If you want to run ram at frequencies higher than 3200mhz then you need to increase need to raise the baseclock but if I remember right that also raises the speed of the pci-e slots which makes it even harder to aquire a stable overclock.
I think if that is the case simply decrease the latency by small increments. Latency has a inverse relationship with frequency. Higher frequency = higher latency, lower frequency = lower latency. The better the ram, the better the overall latency vs frequency thing. Both of them help with performance, but I am not sure if ryzen benefits a lot from lower latency ram vs higher latency ram. Anyway, hope it helps!
Step 1: throw 3200C16 Vengeance LPX in bin due to garbage hynix ICs.
Step 2: Buy a Samsung B-die based kit.
Step 3: Bask in your glorious 3200+ C14.
Yes please, a video about manual ram overclocking would be amazing !
You did well Linus. good video
Wish I could afford this.....
Tom Smy Why not buy a Threadripper? It’s only about $500 (just a guess because I live in australia and US prices are way lower, it’s a bit under a $1000 here) and is pretty much the same but with better aesthetics.
Ben Staker because ryzen cpus are garbage.
Horrible for gaming horrible for low cost average use computers. Somewhat decent for video editing. The only reason to buy a ryzen is if you are doing average video editing and don't game
Error Error just like I said their only value is for video editing.
You can get a $200 i5 that'll whoop a $500 ryzens ass in gaming and a i5 is the perfect cpu for average use people. So unless you are all about that video editing performance and don't care about the rest a ryzen is for you
Or break the bank and get a Intel that has better gaming better and video editing performance
looks like someone hasn't seen any videos about ryzen
Storm Step I don't really trust any videos on anything anymore. I find it's either ryzen biased or Intel biased. I just go by real life.
I have many friends with ryzen I have many with Intel. Ryzen has never really impressed me except for it's video editing performance
Still can't run Crysis.
Nuke Killer you mean quad xeons and quad 1080ti's?
Hahaha This guy must be new.
yyeeaahhh, new. Don't know the joke?
this is amazing he keeps on replying without knowing the joke. XD
Careful his power supply is platinum
Heck yeah on the manually tuning RAM!!!
I have been using blender, handbrake, and cinebench as good ways to test stability. I have found this to provide me a very stable system. Used to always use prime.
Could you Also make one for the threadripper 1950x
Mark
Ryzen cant oc past 4.1 GHz
if ur using amd then u probably wouldn't be able to afford the energy bill if u tried to overclock
@Elijah_
Some hit 4.2 GHz. But yea, Zen is pretty straight forward to OC since it is limited by architecture instead of thermals. Just raise the voltage to your max value; raise clock until unstable(you can skip straight to 3.8); lower voltage until unstable.
ryzen mainstream is not threadripper ^^ But AMD TD they are bad for overcloaking
+Roghjo Gallagher the threadripper chips pull half of what i9 pulls
Fake, I see no mushroom cloud.
This video served me well to fall a sleep last night! Thumbs up!
I actually got some valuable tips for my i5 7600K and z270 TUF from this. Thanks!
RYZEN OC GUIDE please?
Yash Lalluwadia it's very simple and similar. Especially if you using an Asus motherboard. I suggest you use the all core option when you overclock. Stay below 1.4v and you are fine. Should manage up to 4.1 GHZ depending on your cpu and your cooling solution.
is i9 powerful enough to follow the train?
Yes! Would love to see a manual RAM overclocking guide please.
This is essentially what I was trying to do last year when I got my i7-6950X. I spent so much time reading various guides and running stability tests trying to get every last drop of OC juice out of my system that I wasn't really enjoying my system any more. It was so time consuming.
I ended up getting my i7-6950X up to 4,4 GHz stable across all tasks (gaming, F@H, etc.,), or 4,5 GHz or if I wasn't folding or other running intensive AVX protocols. Either way, I wasn't happy with my heat output and voltage settings and knew they could be improved, but I gave up at that point because of how time consuming the process was (and frustration).
I ended up leaving my OC at 4,2 GHz (recently 4,3 GHz), and called it day for the past year. It might not be the best OC, or the most optimized one in terms voltage, but I'm not experiencing any problems in running whatever program I want. It was nice to enjoy my system again.
Maybe one day I'll return (when I have more patience again) and try OC everything to its max, but for now I'm content with what I have.
Sorry Linus but BuildZoid is the way to go for a complete detailed guide with such a high end system.
So I see after critique of i9 intel want to cooperate much more
HMMMM...
I vote yes on the ram overclocking video, especially going into more advanced timings than the standard, explaining auto-tuning and algorithm variation on different motherboards, and maybe even a team up with Splave, Stilt, and other ram overclockers on the video. Splave is awesome and would have some good stuff with Intel, while I've seen Stilt's work with Ryzen/TR. It would be good to cover the differences in Intel and AMD ram overclocking, especially regarding the different available advanced timings/settings. Just a thought where you could go with it. Or even a series of videos to explain the basics of ram timings and what they are and do. The voltages and how that functions with ram (and how ram works). Then the videos on how to overclock the ram, so that you step people through what is going on, so it isn't just repeating what is going on with no understanding of the settings they are playing with when OCing. Just saying, that would be a good way to help educate your viewers on nuances involved (instead of just a down and dirty, simplistic OCing video, which wouldn't be bad either).
I forgot to mention, you may also want to discuss the difference in ram from different manufacturers and the die differences when discussing OCing (like Hynix, Samsung B-die, E-die, etc.). This is so people are better informed on what to look for when buying ram, rather than just BS brand loyalty and marketing.
Yes to underclock guide plus explanation as why it is something worth thinking about and yes to ram overclocking
Sponsored by Intel's cooling paste made of cement.
You forgot the bit where it thermal throttles because the VRM is overheating.
ASUS suggest giving active cooling to VRM after reaching 250+watt power consumption
The sheer simplicity (and quality) of LTT when they set to it, is unmatched!
Yes, please do more indepth OC content. The last video that I remember you doing a tutorial on was the AMD Phenom II X6. That's been a while.
Could somebody tell me a good 550w or 600w psu for my rig ryzen 5 1600 and gtx 1600 3gb
Dark Power Pro 11 (comes in all shapes and sizes, from 550W to 1000W).
Look into a nice EVGA 650 G3. Long warranty.
One that works.
550W would be more than your appetite even for max overclock. You only buying 600W for future proving, and here I tell you some good 550/600W PSUs. EVGA SuperNova is always good. Seasonic Focus or X series are pretty good. Those are the only two PSU brands I like. Find the cheapest of what I mentioned. I own a EVGA PSU and I got for 15 bucks, it's quality is still really really good, and EVGA has really good RMA&costomer supports, you won't regret it (Cool fact: after Corsiar starts making PSU(aka slapping your brand name to other companies' product), their first released product was CMed by Seasonic, so there was superior quality and it was a big hit to enthusiests at the time. After a few year Corsair figured it is cheaper to make PSU CM by other companies so only top tier PSU remained Seasonic, everything below that are worse quality. I know a friend with one of the earliest Corsair PSU and he been using it for 8-10 years, it finally failed. The computer shutted down quietly, no mosqitoes were hurted. He then opened it up, it was full of exploded capacitors. For Corsiar's current budget lineup you don't dare use same PSU for that long. The old one my friend owns has capacitors exploded, and still functions for a while, it shows how good Seasonic is. He still hasn't throw it away, instead kept the dead body to pray as his Allah)
Pretty much anything made by Seasonic to be honest, in my opinion. Also, go a little bigger than 600w.
I want a Ryzen threadripper video
Overclocked😈😈😈
Voltaic Fire not as bad as i9
Voltaic Fire That would be awesome
Custom vega64 with 3x8pin pci-e power supply 😲😲 wtf !!!
I don't know why but this video felt extra well done. Really enjoyed it :)
plz do that overclocking guide u talked about id really love to learn how to do it and specially know what most of the things in the bios mean Ty LinusTechTips
i9 = $1.119??????? OVERPRICED
i got my i9 18 core to 5.7ghz. 2 radiators with push pull fan configuration with 16 fans on each radiator.
Molly bunny I know you are joking but adding more fans won't make it cool more past a certain point
Molly bunny i would be surprised when people get 5.7ghz on a nitrogen cooled i9.
You say this to be funny but... twitter.com/MalwareMinigun/status/925489551564345345?s=03
Olav Hansen ruclips.net/video/rEdXayoA1Es/видео.html
Here you go with your 5.7 ghz
Skek reD okay so on nitrogen they did it. Still no way that would be done on air though
YES PLEASE. WE NEED THAT MEMORY TUNING VIDEO. WE DO. CANT F+++ING GET MY XMP TO WORK. Damn, needed to pull that thorn out lol
I have an alienware aurora R6 with the GTX 1080 in it, if I wanted to upgrade to the 1080 Ti would I have to buy a bigger power supply. It says the Ti calls for a 600 Watt PSU but I cannot find the size of the one that is in mine anywhere on the internet. It says the R5 ones have a 450 Watt one but it doesn't say the R6 size. Please help.
YES, NO TUNNELBEAR!!!
tunnelbear sucks lol.
i have expressvpn its best
I use Betternet since it's simple and free. It's slow at times though. If I could I would switch to a paid service.
lol everybody is trying to hide from someone with VPN and i am here with public IP and open ports just surfing porn and playing games :DDDD
No TunnelBear because it's an Intel-sponsored video. As for whether or not TunnelBear is good, I tried it for a few minutes and it did the trick for getting past an example geo-restricted page, but I don't personally have a use for it. However, TunnelBear sponsors many LTT videos, and because of that alone they're awesome in my book.
I was almost -(e^iπ)st

Would love an overclock video on the ram! I bought the aus x299 tuf mark 2 and the i7 7800 6 core series ( i have limited funds) . I was excited to get on the x299 train and test my overclock abilities. I didn't have such extensive knowledge that you have shown though. I really enjoy your videos! I cant wait for more.
Hey Linus, this is out of the topic in the video. Can I ask a question if is it really necessary/okay to install the "Intel HD Graphics" in your laptop when you already have "GEForce Experience" installed? I'm bothering if it will be affect the usage of dedicated GPU just because I will be installing it just for the sake of additional driver in my laptop. Thank you for your response! :)
lol i9 overclocking with Intels shit tier TIM
#IntelFail
Why am I even watching this, I'll never be able to afford an i9 :(
what's do you people recommend?
i have i7 4970K @4.0Ghz
16 GB of DDR3
and Gigabyte GTX1080 founder's edition, i'm stuck with a 4k monitor and no game run at 60 fps at maximum settings (most of the games run between 30 and 45 fps) does my CPU or RAM bottleneck my GTX 1080?
do i need to upgrade
is it good to have ram the same speed of your cpu? does it sync up perfectly and make the system more stable or does it not matterz/
You asked for it.
Sponsored by Intel.

Or buy an pre delided cpu with guarantee...
Benjamin Jähnert that's just paying someone to void warranty for you
the best And get 20 degrees off of overclocking? every degree matters
the best
Caseking.de gives you two years warranty for an delided cpu (it's also pretested for oc).
Benjamin Jähnert oh I didn't know, that's cool
Thank you Linus. Very useful review.
Hi,
Should I use the Extreme Tunning Utility for simple oc or should I just go into bios and start tweaking? Please tell me what's best...
Thanks.
NooB
