    Thank you so much for the walk through. My husband bought me this model and it intimidated me. You made this so clear and easy! Thanks so much.

    Thanks for the Demo on sealing jars with dried and dehydrated foods. I have a V4800 for several years and I love it. Thanks again for the Demo!

    Milton from Southern North Carolina, after watching many demos, yours is the best. Straight talk and my interest was the retractable sealer for lids and bags. I found many bags from another system I had, zip top and forgot how to use them. I am going to try them in a few minutes, better than throwing out them without a try. Cutting the corner off a store bought bag and sealing in a vacuum bag is a great idea. Thank you for your time.

    Thanks for posting this video. I've been playing over the idea of buying a vacuum sealer, but I wasn't really sold on it or even know which one to buy until I seen your video. It arrived this week and works just like on your video. We also use it to vacuum seal used Ragu jars, using the small mason jar lids. Thank you!

    I have the same vacuum seal model. I never tried it with jars. But can I just fill a jar of my homemade spagetti sauce, vacuum seal it... and put it in the freezer? Thanks for the idea. Mario, from Montreal.

      No, you can't do liquids like that. You'd have to freeze it first, then vacuum seal it so you don't suck up the liquids.

    Appreciate your review. I am looking to purchase one for myself. So I hope you don't mind these questions. Do you prefer this model over other Foodsaver models? There are other Foodsaver models that are less expensive, and other brands such as the Geryon which is only $72. Wondering your thoughts about these?

    • @GardenJensJourney

      After watching and reading many reviews myself, this was the model that had everything I wanted and seemed to have the best reviews overall. I had a different vacuum sealer years ago and it was junk, so I really took my time and did a lot of research before buying this model.

      @@GardenJensJourney Thanks for sharing the information you gathered. Are you happy with it now that you are actually using it? Is it worth the new sticker price of $200. Will you use this to store your your garden grown vegetables?

    • @GardenJensJourney
      @GardenJensJourney  3 года назад

      Yes, I believe it is worth it so far. I use it for vacuum sealing things that are frozen, to prevent freezer burn. I use it to vacuum seal bulk foods, like the beans shown in the video. I also vacuum seal my jars of dehydrated goods for long term storage. So yes, I will use this a lot. As far as from my garden, what I don't can, I dehydrate, so I will use the sealer to vacuum seal my jars of dehydrated goods from the garden for long term storage.

      @@GardenJensJourney FYI, I got lucky today and found a Foodsaver 4860 at the thrift shop. Not sure if it seals yet. It turns on and lights up. Just ordered the bags you recommended.

      @@vsm8754 Awesome!! I hope it works for you. I absolutely love mine! I have had to reseal a couple bags, but not too many. I think if you do a double seal, you'll be just fine. ☺️

    Can you put a whole 50' roll in the V4840? Right now I have a V2480 and it is similar in its functiona to this one. It sits flat on the counter though!

    • @GardenJensJourney
      @GardenJensJourney  2 года назад

      No. I believe it can only hold 25'. So save your tubes so you can reroll it down to the smaller size.

    I have an old Foodsaver V28XX and can manually insert the bag for 2nd seal. Can you do that with this model?

  • @greenthumb782

    always wondered if those were worth the money. Do you ever use packets for dry storage? Are they necessary?? Thanks

    • @GardenJensJourney
      @GardenJensJourney  3 года назад

      Can you clarify your question? As I showed in this video I have beans that I did with the vacuum sealer. I generally do dry storage in my mason jars but I'm running out of those. I can vacuum pac my bulk beans and bulk oats and stuff now, and then put them in some recycled cat litter bins or things like that in my pantry for safe storage.

      @@GardenJensJourney oxygen absorbers packets, they have different CC and how do they figure what CC is best

    • @GardenJensJourney
      @GardenJensJourney  3 года назад +1

      @@greenthumb782 because the vacuum sealers take all the air out there is no need for the oxygen absorber packets. If you didn't have a vacuum sealer then you would need to use the oxygen absorber packets. When you go to buy the oxygen absorber packets they tell you how much that you need to use. However, one of the biggest complaints with those is once you open a package of oxygen absorber a packets you have to use all of them right away or you waste them because there's no way to reseal the unused portions without compromising their integrity.

    I swear I thought I saw this in your video some where but can't find it but will it hold that whole 50' roll?

    • @GardenJensJourney
      @GardenJensJourney  2 года назад

      No. You have to re-roll it unto two smaller rolls. It holds about 25. So save your card board tubes. What I do for larger rolls, at first, is have it on the table, and feed backwards up into the cutting mechanism to cut the bags for that time, until my roll is small enough fit. (Or if I'm using a different size.)

    Those ziplock bags are only for the refrigerator, they’re called refrigerator bags and will hold a seal if you use them in the refrigerator. You can then reuse them if you like.

    Just put a cutting board at least 1" thick in front of the sealer instead of lifting the bag while it's sealing! I have a plastic one about 1" thick!

    What's the towel for. ????

    • @GardenJensJourney
      @GardenJensJourney  5 месяцев назад

      It helps absorb some of the vibrations the machine makes during use. Our son is sensitive to noises like this, and the towel absorbs some of that. Also, for esthetics. 😁 My table is old and worn, with many a scratches, and stains. Didn't want you focusing on the ratty table, instead of the Vacuum sealer. 😉
