I agree! I'm trawling the internet watching videos on chops like this as I'm so scared to do it to my Chinese Elm 😂🙈 Well, i suppose they're replaceable... fingers crossed! 🤞🏻
Thanks Steve. I think having lots of trees is the key in that area. The more material we have to play with, the less precious I am able to be with it because there's always another to work on tomorrow 🙂
those big fuzzy things at first you call scale. those were spider nests. they cover them self with it over winter. we get them too. only bigger lol. they make a loud pop if there was still a spider in there.. thanks for sharing tony. trees look good
Something to consider for future trees growing with a natural cascade style: turn the pot on its side and look at it as an upright. You can always repot it in a new position depending on the root flare.
I like your thinking and in this case i may have been even more heavy on the turnk chops . Apart from the last couple I would have taken them all down to about 6 inches. Great video :)
Hey Tony! I just need to remind you that hazels are basally dominant, partially… by my dads place hazels grow wild in a crazy multitrunk fashion so i think if you chop hard back check for suckers. By the way I’d like a hazel or two.. probably going to buy a contortad hazel when I get the money for it… you need to look at pictures of them they’re like ready bonsai just need a trunk chop here and there and some branch selection :)
You know Tony, if you just want to set up the camera and potter around doing the trimming like you mentioned, no teaching, no major designing, they call it 'slow tv' and it also has a place on RUclips 😉 You could even do it time lapse, or with music and I'm sure people would still watch.
Hi Tony thanks for the update I can’t say I agree with some of the chops but they are your projects so you must do what you think is best for you, time will tell wether they were right or wrong. I think from now on we should call you chopper Tony mate.
as soon as i saw that low branch I knew you wouldn't disappoint us!
🤣🤣It's just so hard to resist a good low chop!
This is more like it - some severe Tony trunk chops. 😂
Sometimes we just have to get stuck in and chop em down!
I love me some trunk chops.
You were not lying. This is Chopapalusa!!! Awesome work on these big cuts Tony!
oddly satisfying when doing the radical chops lol.
Yeah, there is something about the simplification of a tree that I enjoy
Great job..looking good the plants before you say thanks.. have a great weekend and thanks for your time .. .shaun
Thanks Shaun. It's always a pleasure mate
F yeah! I love a big chop! Those ash are going to be great!
Freaking wild man!
Thank you, im just at such a phase of my first to be bonsais :)
It’s nice to watch your growing confidence in your presentation Cary onTony Dennis 😊
Very nice
Think you made so good choices
Thank you. We'll know in a few years!
Nice one Tony thanks for the video keep up the good work mate thanks
I would do exactly the same if these trees were mine. Cut and grow, cut as short as possible and grow again. Great job Tony.
Cheers Piotr. Yeah I'm chopping a lot lower down than I was even a year ago
When you chopped off that beautiful cascading ash only to realise the other leader was dead I died inside 😂
Love chopfest mate!
Chopfest sounds like my kind of summer festival!
short videos with pruning and updates of trees are allways a pleasure to see Tony! 😊👍🤟
thanks, I'm just about to head outside to see what I can work on today
You took the same I would have chosen, but far more boldly and without fear and anxiety 😂!
🤣🤣There is no place in bonsai for fear mate!
@@TonysBonsai words to live by!

I know you love your hybrid cutters but if you get your old and rusty straight one and a cheap sharpening stone you´ll be amazed.
Yesh I agree. I think I'll take a look at them this week
Hi tony, your in a Henry V111 mood today mate, never seen so much chopping.
🤣🤣Off with their heads!
Tony's videos are the best, so naturally the comments are too. But this comment deserves to be singled out for honorable mention! #HenryVIIIMood 😊😂🤣
Thanks Helene. I have to agree. Some of the comments are absolutely hilarious!
Muy bien👌👍👍👍
Thank you

Bonsia is an art form Tony...no wrong choices...only happy mistakes...your very brave. Good work on your trees.
Ver true mate. All we can do is our best
Chop fest 👍👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Tony I have an azalea tree that I will cut back this year. I would love your input of my tree structure. I will need to make decisions. Cheers Tony.
Azaleas are really trick. i'm very inexperienced with thm to be honest, so i#m not sure i'd really know any more than you mate
😢❤
Tony I can’t remember seeing any Japanese maple content do u own any? If so I wouldn’t mind seeing them 👍🏼 great content
I sure do mate.
I'm just uploading a video i shot today which includes some work on a going green acer and a katsura.

If you live up north (Macclesfield) I've got a wood full of hazels, if you want to dig a couple up you can have em for nowt.

Yeah I've thought about that. Perhaps next time I have a job like pruning the larch to do,I'll record it
It´ indeed just partial pruning time...
yeah, not too much to do at the moment mate

Only if you're American.
How could you not see the second ash bit was dead? And why would you not check first?
Tony the pronunciation of Bonsai i not Bunsai, it should be Bonesai
