iTV I Never Knew That About Britain March 2014 - Maclaren

Owen Maclaren was a former test pilot and aeronautical engineer. In the 1960's from a visit from his daughter and grand-daughter encouraged him to turn his engineering genius to prams. He wanted to create something stable as the older prams but also light and small. During WWII he designed Spitfire planes and used his knowledge of retractable undercarriage, which folds away so neatly would help inspire his real genius of his design. The simple design that he came up with helped families enjoy greater freedom. The three-dimensional-design changed the parenting world forever. He is the unsung hero of inventions!
