Elite Mens Final - 2013 UCI BMX World Championships
Inspired by their Motocross heroes, Californian kids in the 1970s started racing their bikes over the same courses when they weren't in use. It quickly grew into a worldwide phenomenon, further enhanced by their use in the iconic scene in the film 'ET' when the friendly alien makes them fly to escape their pursuers.
Down on planet Earth, there are 2 types of BMX racing:
BMX Race
The BMX race is performed on a BMX track, measuring between 300 and 400m, with alternating jumps, banked corners and flat sections. 8 riders battle for first place. Besides the traditional BMX races, there are also Supercross races for Junior and Elite riders. These competitions are held on a spectacular BMX track with an 8m high start ramp and several pro sections with technical jumps. The Junior and Elite World Championships and the Olympic Games are raced on a Supercross track.
BMX Time Trial
The BMX Time Trial is raced on a Supercross BMX track. During BMX Time Trial races, riders set off one at a time and cover the track as quickly as possible.

Funny how the cycling road race
World Championship is 7hrs long
160 miles.
The BMX version is one minute long.

I just think it's rather weird to call someone a champion for winning this 15 second race. Once someone gets to the front, it's over. Maybe make a loop! That would be much more entertaining

first you have to make the finals after fierce competition so... and time trials that help you pick your gates which are essential to how you are going into the turn. every big racer says 90% of the race is based on the first 30 feet. Liam phillips- the 2013 champ got lucky because its his home track but even so he bumped the competition with winning time trials and getting that gate 1 pick and pushing all the competition up the first turn and taking the lead. these guys are going around 40mph down the hill with only their bike and legs. its very interesting when your in the sport. just like baseball, its boring unless you play the sport usually.

I don't think it's a coincidence AT ALL, that each winner of the Elite Men, Women, Jr. Men, and Jr. Women ALL came from gate 1. Not taking anything away from those riders, but the first corner/track design was complete rubbish.

That's how all tracks are with any turns my dude. There is no other way to design it other than having a straight track. Also the guy with the most points out of all motos gets to pick his lane and let me tell you he didn't start in lane 1 in all his motos cause it's random. You can't have in any track not matter the design if it be a first left turn or right turn you'll always have a inside lane...
