- Dude. This is Uematsu firing on all cylinders - Not sure how he does it but these final boss themes always feel so good and sound incredibly tense. Amazing stuff.

This is a great example of
“Hardly anyone has played this game, but EVERYONE has heard this boss theme”
Nobuo went crazy on this one. It's amazing to see he going on those different styles.
Easily one of the most underrated, best games of all time.
Btw, the Japanese rap part in the middle has INCREDIBLY disturbing lyrics when translated. Very lovecraftian
Hey Marco, if you're looking for another amazing last boss theme from a game that should have gotten more recognition than look no further than Blue Dragon. The theme is called The Seal is Broken and I honestly consider it one of the best boss fight themes in the genre.
This was one of my favourite games and I always wanted a sequel or some sort of remake because the stories you find are so heartbreaking, bittersweet, but so very humanizing in the perspective of someone who cannot die or age.
One of the stories that had me in tears was the very first one you encounter, and you just don't forget something like that, especially with the choice of using sound effects that play alongside the story in certain parts, adding into the overall experience.
The music is something you can't get tired of and you just keep coming back to listening to, but I especially am in love with 'The Neverending Journey' song that plays only on the overworld map screen. I highly recommend listening to that one and a few other tracks if you personally get a chance to. c:
There's something which ties into the hit of the "Howl of the Departed" - the voice talking over the music and the choir. I don't know the context of the game, but it feels like something lashing out - "I have something to say, and you are going to listen". It continues and grinds over everything. It feels like the death chant and whispers that Grey Fox has in Metal Gear Solid once you start to beat him and he breaks down.
If I'd have known the music would have paid off, I'd have stuck with the game haha. I lost my save progress and never started it again.
IIRC someone translated the talking bit, and it was expressing the final boss being unable and unwilling to stop his mad grasp for power because of how much blood has already stained his hands, and how close to achieving the apex he was.
Hell yes! This was on my very first playlist back when I started really paying attention to video game music in community college! I never played the game but it brings back memories all the same
I LOVED this game. Such an underrated game that is a wonderful ride to experience.
LOST ODDESY!!! Good lord almighty I haven’t heard of this game in YEARS!!
This final boss OST is phenomenal!
(Second time asking YUGIOH MASTER DUEL OST! I know you’ll love it!)
This song is always a direct shot of caffeine into my brain, and that part with the fast talking combined with the very martial art fueled “HEE-YAH” is just pure rage and anger, mixed with just the right amount of cheese (which is absolutely Nobuo’s specialty)
HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT. I CANT BELIEVE YOU DID THIS, THIS IS THE ONE SONG OUT OF EVERYTHING I WOULD WANT YOU TO DO.
I LOVE THIS GAME, I LOVE THIS MUSIC, NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
That start was crazy! It felt like shockwaves to my ears. The shock and fear immediately crept to my heart. Damn, that's so cool!
"House of the Witch" is still one of my favorite spooky atmospheric songs in gaming. It's like the distilled feeling of "something is wrong", a dutch angle in music form, perfect for the stage it's set in and the disturbing memories that it accompanies in the "thousand years of dreams".
OMG YOURE LISTENING TO IT YESSSSSSSSSS
I’ve been hoping you’d do this one from when I first found you!!!
Lost Odyssey is a masterpiece. I've beaten that game 35 times and I'm working on 36. Please play that game if you haven't. I've also cried everytime I've played it at the exact same point. Also play Blue Odyssey also by thr same studio its great too!
Ghost Town? Because that's what got me.
FINALLY IT'S HERE!
BEST BOSS THEME, LET'S GOOOOO!
omg this just unlocked a memory of playing this game and the music is this game is soooooo goooooddddd and this game makes you look at stuff different
I forgot how good this whole ost is. Thanks for the reminder.
Hearing this again put FEAR in me as that fight was a nightmare for various reason
hope you have petrify immunity slotted on all your dudes
@@Pendergast891 Oh I did, still slapped me silly
GOD i love Lost Odyssey. "Parting Forever" is one of the songs that, on hearing the first few notes, never fails to get me crying. the music in this game is phenomenal. even if you don't get the chance to find the game to play, definitely look up the 1000 Years of Dreams!
Hi Marco !
Thanks for doing this, it's amazing to hear your professional perspective and breathe new meaning into some of my favourite gaming soundtracks !
Could you please have a look at Stellaris - Synthethic Dawn ?
yesyesyes!!!!!! my patience has finally paid off I made mention of Lost Odyssey ages ago and only once so no to be one of those weird demanding toadies. I knew one day I would be afforded my hysterical celebration that is this video!!!! thank you!!! I will enjoy the morsel and sink back into the abyss awaiting the next tidbit of whatever you bring!!! (btw loved the reaction, this piece was definitely one of those where I stopped playing for a moment to really let the music sink in, it's sets a great mood and tone for the entire fight)
:))))
I was literally rewatching your brachy theme when I realized the one song you NEEDED to hear was Roar of the Departed Souls. Very glad I just get to go right into this video. like 10 years ago I found this song and introduced it to my friend in college by telling him this song is every single final boss song mashed into one. This game was also impossible to find but amazingly at a closing blockbluster it was there, like out of a dream. The insanity didn't stop there because when i cracked it open for the xbox 360, the game had FOUR discs. I have never seen another xbox 360 game that had more than one disc and this had FOUR.
This song is only allowed to be played during my friends D&D games if someone or everyone is practically guaranteed to die AND has to be a final boss. It is both sacred and terrifying
unbelievable
I still cant believe why you dont listen or found Castlevania Lords of Shadows 1 + 2 OST soundtrack one of the best soundtracks ever made outthere especially Titanic struggle from LOS 2.
Never heard of it sadly
@@MarcoMeatball then please give it a try
I always thought the chanting in the middle of the song was someone casting a powerful spell with an overly long incantation, I love it
First time I fought the final boss I was all smiles and swimming in nostalgia. This
song reminds me of FF4 Zeromus alot and that's a good thing since his theme is such a banger lol.
Definitely adding this song to my just opera playlist 0:56
Ohhhh yes! Here's a game that only has amazing music. Might be difficult to go backwards into the other tracks after starting with the final boss theme, but if you haven't already heard the rest of the soundtrack I'd love to hear you go through the rest.
I remember renting this game and the case bulging cause the one they gave me couldn't hold all the disks properly. Had to buy it after I couldn't finish it in time. Sadly it remains a 360 exclusive and is proving very difficult to emulate last I checked.
That boss fight SUUUUUCKED. Hope you prepped your status immunities. Also pc port when?
Also the 1st minutes or so is the scripted cutscene, voice acted and all, for the final boss' final phase transition
I started playing Lost Odyssey and it was great. I can't remember why I never finished it.
@@Xanderj89 Now that you say that, I do remember having issues with the disks.
I would highly recommend you check out Mythic Power from Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. It's practically the player characters personal boss music since whenever it plays something awesome is about to happen.
Master of My Own Fate from the same soundtrack is also a good choice.
I beat this game twice lol. 4 disks on a xbox 360 is crazy
MARCO YOU HAVE TO SEE FURINAS NEW DEMO TRAILER THE FRENCH OPERA SINGIGNF RKGLYLT LIKE I JUST KNOW YOULL LOVE IT
Blue Dragon OST next please!!!!!!!! The Seal is Broken, State of Emergency
have you considered doing splatoon music? Its not exactly the same style as the other music you analyze, but I feel like you might like it.
Honestly the only disappointing part of the theme is really the villain it’s attached to. Gongora was really not…intimidating in any form 😂
I'd love to hear what you'd have to say about the track from the series "Dark Saint".
thank you marco for bringing more light to this often forgotten gem
obscured in most part due to sakaguchi's spite-fueled decision to release the game **only** on xbox, to this day it has no port, not even to newer xbox's, can only play it through newer xbox model's retrocompatibility or emulation
i am sure that if it got released on playstation or even on pc, it would have gotten a ton more love and would be an old classic
@@Xanderj89 no, i was being truthful to how the events played out, and not console war-style
After the merger with Enix from Squaresoft, Sakaguchi left in some sort of a messy breakup, and he was adamant that his new company's game would come out on xbox and not on playstation,
However at the time, it wasnt as homogenous as now, and basically everyone that liked RPGs was on playstation, while people that liked shooters were on xbox, it 300% was spite fueled in this specific case, while the playstation exclusive FFs are a business deal with sony where they fund development and get the game on their platform as payment
So it was releasing already to a smaller playerbase of people that would be interested in it
The fact it never got a port surely didnt help it
I bought a 360 just for this game lmaoooo
This game needs a re-release so badly.
It's hidden-short-stories are a gem of literature and philosophy in their own right - including the way they are visually presented and underline, emphasize and connotate the text.
Reading in the game is the same as listening to Uematsu's music.
Sadly the dub is really bad and distorting characters. I recommend playing it with sub only.
Is it really that underrated? I bought a Xbox 360 for that game. It's beinng louded as the real FFXIII.
You pause too much and stop at the wrong times, I can only give you a downvote for this sadly
