    I was actually one of the Commandoes who was on this exercise, and have been lucky enough to go on past exchanges to America. The 6 ESB guys are some of the nicest blokes you will ever come across and have a work ethic to match. Never has there been any form of confrontation between 131 or 6 ESB, they treat us like sapper brothers and we in turn treat them similarly. The whole point of this exercise is to hone various elements of our role - Combat Engineering, assault skills etc so that should we operate in war together, we can do so in a fluid manner. All the "my black cat is blacker than yours" talk is unhelpful and just creates unnecessary animosity between brothers and allies. Of course there are areas where we are superior, but there are areas where they are the SME's and we have the opportunity to learn. But never once have the Americans looked to point score against us, they pass on what they can in a humble and generous manner. Joint Anglo/American exercises like Red Dagger and Black Alligator are highly valued by both forces and all this talk of one being better than the other is superfluous. We are different forces, with different training methods but very similar ideology. If we can learn from each other, and the knowledge gained allow us to beat a common enemy then surely that's a good thing. I for one really hope I get to train with my 6 ESB brothers again, and will always be thankful that they count us as ally's and brothers.
    And for the record 131 do the same Commando tests as the regular Royal Marines. We also complete the Reserve Commando Course alongside the Royal Marine Reserve. The Commando at the end of the video won the Parker Trophy for best Commando on course at Lympstone (CTC) which gives some indication of the standard 131 Commando trains its guys to.
    And if you need confirmation that most Commandoes have respect for the USMC, then take a look at this link and read the comments - mutual respect:

    In my time I spent in the uniform I have bumped into various troops of other nations both in garrison and in the Middle East. Their training and equipment may have been different than ours, but no one military was better or worse than another. It's good to have patriotism for one's own, but do not let that pride to become arrogance. I would honestly take a British Marine, or an Aussie Soldier, or pretty much any allied military from any branch to watch my back when the proverbial "shit hits the fan".
    "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for he to-day that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, this day shall gentle his condition; and gentlemen in England now-a-bed shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
    that fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day." - Henry V, Act IV Scene iii 18-67

      And what is so wrong with being a Crab? Don't those of us who served in that Arm deserve respect? Who do the Khakis call on when the shit hits the fan and need air cover? Oh wait .. why is it called 'AIR' cover?... I did nearly 15 in, MD'd out with my 3 up in '85 and did a little jaunt to the South Atlantic in '82. I may have been a bit slow on the ground when attached but I knew how to arm and maintain a fucking Harrier so it could CAS whoever needed it.

      Nothing wrong with being a crab.. accept for when you try and give it big licks, like most RAF do. (See your comment and first comment for example)
      I believe they call for a pilot to come and drop some bombs.. so unless you're a pilot i hardly see how you can claim glory for someone else's work.
      You knew how to arm a harrier? Well done, Thats like someone in the factory that makes sniper rifles claiming the kill that a sniper gets with that weapon isn't it. You helped, but please. Don't try and claim someone else's glory.

      Wow... that is some re-write of what I said. I 'gave it big licks' eh? Don't they make ice cream in Scotland?
      First off I have made ONE comment on this Thread not two. Can you count?
      Secondly I was responding to YOUR sarccy crap about the RAF to sort of balance the conversation. You know Free Speech and all that shit ....
      And thirdly where the FUCK did I 'try and claim someone else's glory' ?? Oh and if the Oiks like me and my Oppos didn't maintain the aircraft and fuel and tool them the Khakis wouldn't SEE any fucking CAS would they? Twat!
      Anyway I had the great privilege in my last years throwing Paras and other Khakis out of perfectly good Fat Alberts..... At least they had some professionalism and respect about them. Try and grow some balls you Mong and learn from them.
      So again I ask my simple question. You know the one you avoided? Where have YOU served and how long have you been in then? Oh sorry. My bad. That was TWO questions ...

    • @skippyleach
      @skippyleach 8 лет назад

      1chish Yes, gave it big licks, remember when you felt the need to give me your life story despite the fact i don't give a shit? 'Who do the khakis call when they need CAS?' OMG! Is it you? You absolute hero!!
      I know you've made one comment, which is why if you read it carefully i said.. 'YOUR comment and the FIRST comment, referring to.. wait for it.. the FIRST comment, the other crowbag, funnily enough.. giving it big licks.
      Ha! Well If I'm out on the ground, and i need CAS who will i call? An aircraft maintainer, or a pilot? hmmmmmm a pilot i think. So don't try and give it 'who you gonna call' because unless you're the person to respond to the call, you are 100% trying to claim the glory of the pilot that actually goes out and provides CAS. not the glorified petrol attendant that spouts off on youtube.
      Standard argument of a REMF, "But we help out just as much" "If nobody issues the rations the war wouldn't be won so we're just as important wahhhhhhh"
      What, do you want a medal? You watched some actual soldiers do their job, must have been great for you.
      I want to tell you, but I find it quite amusing that you don't know yet you still continue to argue.

    • @tidefanyankee2428
      @tidefanyankee2428 7 лет назад +6

      Crow T. Robot Actually a better comparison would be USMC Raiders/MARSOC to SBS. The training to be a Raider/MARSOC is quite extensive and long. The Royal Marine Commandos while a very good unit combines much of their training. A US Marine, whether he's going to be an aircraft mechanic or a Raider starts in boot camp and after that goes on to their occupational training etc...The Royal Marines combine boot camp with infantry training. If I remember correctly and if it hasn't changed, every RMC has to do at least 2 years in the Infantry before moving on to something else.

    • @SBCBears
      @SBCBears 7 лет назад +9

      If you want to compare SBS to an American unit, wouldn't the apt comparison be to SEAL? Or, are we at the point of recognizing that these comparisons are flawed?

    Some members of the British Army and Royal Navy do an "All Arms Commando Course"
    (a much shorter version of the 32 weeks RM Commando Course) so they are up to speed to work with the Royal Marines ..... and guess who trains them during their few weeks AACC ? ..... Yes, the superior Royal Marines ..... a world of difference indeed.

Interesting. Nice view of the UK countryside too. Looks great.
