I used to have trouble like this and saw a chiropractor regularly. It was so bad, I eventually went to the ER after not being able to walk for a few days without assistance. It was then that I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, which went to my pelvic/groin area, causing weakness. It's not the news I wanted to hear, especially because I believed I was doing everything I could to ensure that my bones were healthy and strong. If anyone's going through this, I hope that you take my situation into consideration and get checked by a Dr before it's too late. RUclips is great for self diagnosis when you can't afford to see a Dr or simply afraid to see one, just like I avoided it by going to a chiropractor instead. It is more common than you'd think, so get checked. In my case, it was a blood test that determined it, followed by a biopsy the following morning.

Excellent video but what about us short folks? With most chairs, when I sit all the way back, my feet are off the floor and the backs of my knees become really uncomfortable. So I scoot forward to take the pressure off them which leaves my back unsupported. I understand that I can use a footstool in private but most of my time (at least 12 hours a day) is in public. You can't ask for a footstool in a fine dining restaurant or even McDonald's. Most boardroom chairs, vehicle seats and even park benches are at fixed heights.
I understand the struggle. I'm about 5'3". Footstool is definitely the "best" option, but not always practical as you mention. With boardroom chairs, often there is a handle under the seat to lower them. If not, you can put your feet on the spokes that hold the wheels. If you're out most of the time, you could take a lumbar support pillow like this one with you amzn.to/3DuNime. It doesn't raise your feet, but it does essentially bring the seatback forward. Yes, it is a bit of a hassle to carry around, but they're not that incredibly large, so it's a matter of deciding which is the bigger problem... the back pain or the inconvenience of carrying something.

Dr, Thank you so much. Please my problem is I feel some cushion like (softness) under my feet. When I sit a little while, I find it difficult to walk well for a distance. Kindly help me.
I can't say for certain what's going on in your case. If the "softness" is from swelling, sometimes swelling can drain down your legs (i.e. from your knees) and pool in your feet. If that's the case elevating the legs when sitting may help. If it's more of a numbness in the feet, this video may help: ruclips.net/video/Ei6hqLLF5_8/видео.html In either event, it would be a good idea to see a healthcare professional about it.
That's how I was when I bent over to tie my shoes . Went to Chiro and was adjusted. My low back where there's two bones you can feel one was lower than the other . Causing pinch in sciatica. Now days after adjustment I'm sore near hip and side/ front thigh is this normal to have soreness days later
In general, you should feel better after getting treatment. Certainly let your chiropractor know about it so that they can modify the treatment approach the next time you see them. Being a little sore in the lower back can happen from time to time, but I'd be a little more concerned if the treatment is making the sciatica / leg symptoms worse.

Thank you. Very helpful video. My problem is in the mornings when I get out of bed with a stiff back then into standing position I have to take baby steps for around 12 minutes until I can move without either stiffness or sharp lower back pain. Then I come right, and generally have no more problem with my lower back for the rest of the day. I am having treatment from a Chiropracter and that is helping me alot, but your video will also help me with my specific problem of getting up and moving normally after a night's sleep or going to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
This is a problem for me most of the time. I have a good day or two, here or there. So am so thankful to see how it is best to handle this pain after sitting or lying down too long or just not doing it properly. Glad to find a way to help rectify this to some extent. Do not like people knowing I have such problems. Appreciate the lessons to help alleviate some of the problems these various diseases cause one, when we least expect it. Most would never have dreamed I would have problems in functioning during my lifetime. People know I have had in the past the ability to dance, as took Tap, Jazz. Ballet and Baton lessons until I became of age. Walked stairs several times a day, and now cannot handle much of what I used to do.
It's frustrating when things that were once easy become difficult. This is a pretty common problem though, so there's no need to be ashamed of it. There are probably other people you know who have this problem and don't talk about it either. Glad the video helped.

Hi dr. Dave I have the most problem when I get up in the morning and I'm hunched over I have lumbar spine do you have any exercise that I can do standing up please
Good video... concise and clearly presented which makes me glad that your channel was randomly recommended on my home page. I am currently quite morbidly obese (hopefully this will change over the next while as I try to lose some weight) but I am curious as to whether the advise in this video would be modified in any way taking my weight (and the fact I carry most of that weight as an abdominal apron) into account. I am a 70 year female with a torn medial meniscus in my left knee from a fall many years ago (I opted not to have surgery and the symptoms are minimal and manageable now) but otherwise have no discernible arthritis or other leg or hip issues. I most definitely have the difficulty you describe, primarily upon standing after an extended period of sitting, so I will practice your advice as shown, unless there is anything else I need know. Thank you for addressing and illustrating this issue so well.
Glad you liked the video. The main change would be that you may need to spread your legs wider when bending forward to allow your abdomen to be able to get between them.
@@More4Life Excellent, I shall bear that suggestion in mind. Many thanks for the personalized reply to my comment... I am genuinely impressed. Keep up the great work.
Question - if I sit for an extended period of time with my legs straight in front (ie., not in a chair but on floor or bed or some other horizontal plane), my front thigh muscles become very painful. If I understand correctly, this is some hip flexor pulling them. My question is - how do I address this? I have worked a number of months with a daily walk but also some exercises but I don't see improvement and I wonder whether this pain is the clue to what is actually stopping me from walking more comfortably. Thanks for your videos.
If you're sitting upright with out back support, it very well could be the hip flexors. One thing to try would be leaning against the backrest of the bed, or a wall or couch if sitting on the floor to see if that helps.
I am sitting with good back support. I just can't figure out what I'm missing in terms of exercises to get back to full walking. Thanks for your help and videos.@@More4Life
@@WVislandia here's a playlist of different videos to help improve walking. Hopefully one of these helps. Playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLsxYq2xJHBAmRz8RE6PG-Q5V4mGDvxFfH Here's one to start with based on what you described: ruclips.net/video/IdpqfLU3iIY/видео.html
Great question! The technique is more or less the same, but it's harder because the surface is lower, so you really have to lean forward and get your head down more. Depending on the type of lounger that you have, you might even try putting your hands on the ground, pushing your bottom up in the air, and then standing up from there. Here's a video that shows the technique ruclips.net/video/_EVl09P1zg0/видео.html
There are a lot of possible causes. It really depends on what part of the ankle, if you've injured it in the past, how you've been sitting, etc. It would be a good idea to get it evaluated by someone to help figure out what your particular problem is.
Thank you for posting this!! My issue is when I first get out of bed in the morning. Unless I stretch to a fetal position for a few minutes, I can barely get out of bed, and if I do without stretching - I have to push through the pain and stiffness just to stand up. Are there any daily exercises that would help? Thank you.
The technique of sitting in bed to standing up is pretty similar. Here's a video with 3 ways to get out of bed in the morning without pain though: ruclips.net/video/Wm-SSw0gpcQ/видео.html
Where do you feel the prob. with hip flexors? What do you do with the first bent over steps? Hip flex, how? My pain is in the buttocks. A few days on crutches, then ok. It happens often.
You may feel the problem in many places, but the lower back and buttock like yours are one of the most common places. As your questions "What do you do with the first bent over steps?", that's answered within the video content. I can't really give you a better text description than how it's demonstrated in the video. Here's a blog post on the same content if you prefer it in written form and static pictures though. m4lpt.com/i-can-hardly-walk-when-i-first-get-up/
I find that if I am standing and lean slightly forward to do some small task for a minute or so, my back seizes up when I go to straighten up and it's quite painful.
That's a common problem. Likely it has to do with "how" you're bending. Hard to describe briefly in a comment, but when you bend with your spinal extensors overly activated and hold if for awhile, you can get a "catch" when you go to stand back up. Here are two videos on: How to stop a catch in your back: ruclips.net/video/Kka5kt7VH-w/видео.html Prevent back pain when bending: ruclips.net/video/k1jrIykrVds/видео.html
When sitting and getting up, I prefer to follow your instructions, but I will take a step by standing for a while, before taking another step forward. Is that right ? The oxygen level has not reached my brain fully, I tend to be dizzy, if starting to follow your style here. Please comment. Tq
Getting dizzy when you first stand up becomes more common as you age, which as you mentioned is due to your heart having to pump blood uphill to your brain. In that case, it is a good idea to stand still for safety reasons until you're no longer dizzy. If you stand still in that approximately 75% upright position and then take a step it should still work the same. So it's the same technique, there's just a pause. Hope that helps.
You do turn sideways, but from there the technique is fairly similar. Kind of like turning sideways to get out of a car, which is shown here ruclips.net/video/Km35AWj8FKM/видео.html

Lots of helpful information. But what can you do after driving long distances or being seated in a car for long stretches of time? I used to operate a tractor or riding mower for hours and that's when I noticed the hip flexor, calf, knee pain/ discomfort.
Here's an old video about that. ruclips.net/video/Km35AWj8FKM/видео.html

Thank you for the info!! Can I just say what great shape you are in!! Your arms are awesome!!!! Wow!!!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
How would you suggest i stand up when i am sitting at a table ?
Ideally scoot or turn the chair away from the table and then just like in the video. Not all situations are ideal though.

How to get on and off a sunloinger
Great question! The technique is more or less the same, but it's harder because the surface is lower, so you really have to lean forward and get your head down more. Depending on the type of lounger that you have, you might even try putting your hands on the ground, pushing your bottom up in the air, and then standing up from there. Here's a video that shows the technique ruclips.net/video/_EVl09P1zg0/видео.html

Is there an Exercise for the legs to do on a 6 hr flight??
For the most part, just moving your legs as much as you're able in your seat and getting up to walk to the restroom a few times.

Hi doc its my ankle thats pain when I get up and feel s tight. What do you think is the problem
There are a lot of possible causes. It really depends on what part of the ankle, if you've injured it in the past, how you've been sitting, etc. It would be a good idea to get it evaluated by someone to help figure out what your particular problem is.
Very informative video. It would be good to see a shorter follow along video just showing the exercise.
Glad you liked it. If you use the timestamps in the description, you can jump forward to the exercises if you want.

Thank you for posting this!! My issue is when I first get out of bed in the morning. Unless I stretch to a fetal position for a few minutes, I can barely get out of bed, and if I do without stretching - I have to push through the pain and stiffness just to stand up. What about getting out of bed in the morning..equally as painful.. almost fall when first step on right leg
The technique of sitting in bed to standing up is pretty similar. Here's a video with 3 ways to get out of bed in the morning without pain though: ruclips.net/video/Wm-SSw0gpcQ/видео.html
Omg that's me! Why do I have to hunch over when I first stand up after sitting.
You're not alone. That's why we made the video. Hopefully the tips will help.
Here are two videos on:
How to stop a catch in your back: ruclips.net/video/Kka5kt7VH-w/видео.html

Hi got siatica since 2012. from siting down when I get up it's like that standing I'm not straight standing but few seconds it eases the pain
I am a stroke survivor
Thank you for this video🩵
