- The IDF continues to carry out its war in Gaza, and the Gaza Ministry of Health reports a death count of 33,000 since October 7th. Author and global affairs journalist Emily Tamkin has been writing about this war for the online magazine Slate. Her most recent article explores the reaction to the killing of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers. Tamkin joins us to discuss why she believes this incident provoked worldwide condemnation.

' The World's Most Documented Genocide In History . '
Caused by the world’s most well documented case of overpopulation. 2.5 million Gazans were crammed into an area that doesn’t have the food or water to sustain one tenth of that population! Yes, we have to help Gazans and Israelis impacted by violence. But we commit a crime ourselves by ignoring the root causes of this violence between these two peoples.
It's not though, because Israel won't let them in. Russia genocide in Ukraine is much more documented.
By whom Satan the master of deception Hamas is instruments of satan an if the is any genocide look Hamas is the ones committing genocide
@@freeheeler09The cause is the occupation and oppression that resulted in the denial of basic rights of the Palestinians for decades. And what does a plausible genocide have to do with anything but Izrail's actions against the population of Gaza? Hint: Nothing
@@ChrisAlbertH47 For decades Palestinian Arabs rejected every solution. Arabs started all wars starting 1948, 1967, 1973, and 2023. They never tried to compromise. Because their main goal is to destroy the State of Israel. Palestine is just a name borrowed from history to convince the world for 21st Arab country and hide their mail goal.
I don' t know any one.Nor israelis nor palestinians nor europeans/ canadian/ australian. But my heart aches when I see palestinian children crying of famine, pain or despair.😢
If all Americans or Europeans saw what Hamas did on October 7th, they would be incapable of supporting a state for the Gazans in any form and might even volunteer to join the IDF soldiers.

Their rules-based international order is a fuking joke!
All the hostages, all the dead from Israel have been given their names. Their relatives have been heard, here on TV, in the newspaper. Their lives, dreams, ideals are known to us. Forever. And I think that is right. I do have a question: do Palestinian lives have the same value for us? Do we also know the names of their dead babies, their humiliated grandparents and their murdered children? Do we know their individual dreams, friends, school reports? Palestinian lives are usually mentioned by number: 34..000 deaths, more than half of which are small children. Not names, but numbers. This indicates how we distribute our compassion..
Palistineans think differently than Westerners. They dont value life in the same way. They admit it themselves and this is the root of the problem.
.
No. No they don't. This is a war, and Hamas started it.
Yes, the Palestinian lives matter just as much as any other. That is why the world is no longer willing to accept the genocide unfolding before our eyes. Voices are being heard, and the no longer afraid to speak for humanity, willing to risk being labeled anti-Semitic. An accusation losing meaning each day as Israel flings it at anyone pointing out their actions.
Accidents happen in war, especially with hamas using as human shields!!
Just look at the reactions of Israelis about the death of the aid workers on social media to know that these people need a new education system.
Re-education camps you mean! They are not normal people, they are not civilised.
What did they say?

Thousands. They have taken 7000 more in the west bank since Oct 7th. The west bank. Not gaza.
You are making an equivalence between the civilian Israeli hostages and the palestinian terrorists, also suggesting that the latter are held arbitrarily - which is not the case. I have “no thoughts” for people who tried to or plotted to kill or rather I have, but I won’t elaborate. Sadly we have more and more “freedom fighter” incidents here in Europe lately and the police doesn’t shoot to kill here like the Jews do.
@@marta38777 you have it backwards. They are not Israeli civilians. And they are not Palestinian terrorists.

Is there selective outrage?
Obviously.
Your guest is dancing furiously to avoid offense, but it's obvious.
I don't envy her the position she's been put in.
Is this even a question ?
It's a rhetorical one.
Why don't you differentiate between government reactions and the people? Millions have been pouring in to the streets in solidarity with the Palestinians while western governments sent arms. The outrage over the 7 is from politicians. Now, on the injury you speak of, does wearing the victims' undergarments count as war injury for soldiers? Coz that's what they're posting online. I have no doubt that there are individuals who are genuinely affected morally afterwards but facts say they're in the minority coz the dominant narrative in Israel is that this is a just war.
Emily's restraint with those questions I'm extremely impressed. I could not be so calm.
??? The questions were relevant to Emily's expressed concerns about the differences in levels of outrage depending on who was murdered or killed.
Of course. Outrage is always "selective" by its very nature.
Is the sky blue?
Like everything else...it depends.
I had to go out and check...for real
Is unfrozen non-vaporized water wet??? 🤔
This anchor is still trying to ask indirectly do you condemn Hamas ? I want to ask this anchor do you condemn Israel for the mass murders and starvation of Palestinians?
This is a crime and genocide!!!!
Yet the genocide continues…😢
WAR? YOU MEAN "MOW OF GRASS"
Perhaps if the victims of the October 7th massacre were famous there would have been at least some outrage. Pathetic.
Selective outrage all around from nearly every one.
the answer is YES. analysis of Netanyahu's plan to complete the Ben Gurion Canal thru the devestated remains of Gaza may be worth a show, too.
So, Paella is more important to these democratic politicians than Palestinian lives.

Wooh ahe said a lot more truth than she was allowed to.
Found the beginning of the interview a bit frustrating with the interviewee being a bit too careful. Then the host started asking genocide-apologist adjacent questions and I was like 🤯. Good part was Emily got a little more forceful and direct in her responses at the end.
*Remember all their names.*
But as millions of individuals, maybe *we* should start thinking about a different strategy.
All around the world, millions of people have finally figured out they are on the wrong side of a *100-year old imperialist war in the ME,* but they are not as connected or organized like the outside meddlers have been for 100 years. Right from the start of this conflict 100 years ago, the meddlers' strategy has been *"divide and rule",* and it has been all about OIL and outside Western CONTROL over strategic locations on the map.
Counter strategy to "divide and rule": Start pulling the rug from underneath the feet of these eternal meddlers...
*Boycott:* Much simpler than trying to remember the long loooong lists of what _not_ to buy, and for whatever specific reasons, is to try and limit what one actually _does_ buy: *buy no-name brands from small companies (addresses usually on the labels), buy local foods (farmers markets), buy locally produced or handmade items, otherwise go slightly "over-regional," or buy fair trade wherever possible.*
It is not a perfect strategy, but don't get sidelined by the whiners/finger pointers who will invariably ALWAYS show up like clockwork, trying to ridicule or nag with their dumb _"...duh but your using a smartphone, but your using oil toooo"-gotcha style_ distractions. It is not MEANT to be "perfect"...
*Methodology:* JDI and make it a _longterm lifestyle,_ not just a short-term knee-jerk "trend," because of some or other upsetting event in the news. Just boycott ALL corporations, as far as personally convenient and possible, and always remember that even if only 75% of all the people on the planet only get it right about 75% of the time, on roughly 75% of everything they buy, it will finally make a massive difference for all the causes _you_ also value. Want to bring the boys home? Do you wish to limit military actions to becoming multinational, following the principles of international law only, and independent of any corporate "interests." Do you wish to contribute to end western imperialist actions and meddling all over the world? You wish to contribute a small share to forcing Israel into a negotiated peace process? Do you wish to give small companies a better chance in the dog-eat-dog capitalist world in your country?
*Join BDS, because the international cross-border politically influencial rich and powerfull only REALLY start caring when their pockets start hurting.*
Regardless of where you live, or how much money you have, just remember this:
- You are not going to achieve much by voting in elections.
- You are not going to achieve much by posting on social media.
- You are not going to achieve much by debating on any plattform, real or virtual.
- You are not going to achieve much by making use your "freedom of speech" in any way.
- You are not going to achieve much by protesting in any possible way which will politically make a difference.
*Here is what you can do, easily:*
1) Read Smedley-Butler/War is a Racket, a very short book (should be possible in a few hours)
2) realize that after around a 100 years, NOTHING has changed
3) start unravelling the connections between big business and Washington DC, by boycotting "big brands".
Do not delay. Start today. 👍👋
Look at the REAL stats and data. Jews made up a large portion of the populations of Arab nations in 1900 (sometimes up to hundreds of thousands of Jews, as was the case in Iraq).
But by 1946, their populations disapeared from almost every single Arab nation, as those nations persecuted and then kicked them out. LOOK AT THE DATA.
That is REAL Genocide. Why are these pro-Hamas media NOT mentioning these things?
Makes sense. Thank you🙏
Great post. I’ve been boycotting certain companies for years. But I will say the more the middle class gets squeezed the less this becomes an option.

I couldn't watch this in its entirety. The whole premise of this interview galls me (as well as the interviewer). I guess we can be racist, regardless of our skin color. Is it not clear from the reaction to this horrific "mistake" that most of the world could give two shits about the Palestinian people?
Sadly true, led by u.s.
clearly their arab cousins don't either ...
@@direwolf6234 Not true and I'm tired of this worn-out comment from uninformed Zionists. Millions of Palestinian refugees were taken in by other Arab countries, following the first Nakba. Especially Lebanon.
Why are you bringing this to the world's attention now? Where were you 6 months ago?
It’s human nature not to connect with another race, BUT many of the Palestinians deaths have been circulating on social media. I personally connect with all human deaths regardless of race. Maybe this has to do with how I was brought up. So my dear readers, this goes back to how we educate our children!!!!!! Something is amiss if a human can feel with some people and not others. How parents raise their children is important and how the education system teaches children to be responsible and empathetic citizens is important.
The "reporting" can hardly get any more biased than this.
Killing of the wck workers is a tragic mistake, but:
- they have not been killed _bacause_ they helped civilians, but because of misidentification
- the printed signs on the roofs of the vehicles couldn't be seen at night. For the future, IDF is considering to give aid orgs a thermal stickers that are visible by the night vision systems.
- as for other aid workers who died in this war, where they from UNRWA that essentially became a branch of Hamas?
Israel has nothing to gain and zero interest in killing of the real aid workers, civilians or in inducing a famine. Just the other way round - all of this just impedes it's war effort. Hamas, on the other hand, is very interested in all of the above because every incident like this, every report of "famine" - only increases thir chances to survive if Israel is forced to stop.
you believe what makes you sleep at night
but to me you are evil
@@johnholmes8919 I dont pretend to be impartial, but I try to gather as much information as I can, from many sources. I also question the veracity of many reports.
To me it appears your emotions are based on very incomplete and biased information.
Yeah the UNRWA = HAMAS thing is just something somebody said with no material evidence. This is pure ideological propaganda and you help spreading it. Also it's a famine not a "famine".
And yes Israel has something to gain from the death of aid workers. Israel wants to dismantle Gaza's infrastructure and make life as unbearable as possible to Palestinians. Taking away food helps in that goal -> and this is not some theory: IDF spokespeople have said that starvation will help break the Palestinians.
In this fashion Israel even admits some of it's war crimes and the world watches on and says: "Boy, they sure do have a right to defend themselves."
Thank you Emily for being a true representative of human family ❤
A big thanks to your parents who raised you so well❤❤
Is it called “incompetence” if one doesn’t give a 💩 about the likely hood of one’s actions killing others (whom you say you hate)? No it is not. Even to say it’s apathy by Israel lets them off the hook. Don’t let their word games win. 🤯
Eye-opening, thoughtful, professional interview - thanks very much for this
There are examples of this throughout current events and they usually involve people who are by some measure considered “public saints” and the outrage usually happens when they are murdered by parties who are on “our side”.
Another good example of this involved nuns murdered in El Salvador in 1980. It was the height of the Cold War and the USA was ostensibly supporting brutal anti-communist proxy wars all over the globe. The country at large was nominally anti-communist and most average Americans were either not paying attention or were willing to “hold their noses” at hearing of right-wing death squads. These people were horrible, but the refrain was always “but communism was worse”. After this episode, many more Americans…many “progressive Catholics” were justifiably upset. Tip O”Neil was apoplectic and took his rage directly to Ronald Reagan.
Meanwhile, the El Salvador civil war raged on for years.
There is selective outrage over whether you support a holy war and pretend to be shocked that war is deadly and messy vs whether you'd prefer to just have a peaceful modus vivendi free of vengeance in which you prioritize building an economy, security, freedom and a decent life.
“Is There Selective Outrage With Who Dies in the Israel/Gaza Conflict?“ Unequivocally, yes. Next question…
No selective outrage, only sorrow.

No res line for IDF bcz of USA
Jose Andres food must be damn good
It seems to me that Israel has created another Masada only this time they are the Romans.
It seems to me that they are taking a page out of their once oppressors. This is what happens with unresolved trauma. If you don't deal with it in a healthy way, you tend to pass it on to others.
Of course there is it's been going on for 70 years. The chosen tribe can do no wrong
It’s a mélange - incompetence, poor standards, and impunity.
The two IDF officials who were dismissed were not named so any punishment is questionable, possibly they were simply hired in other positions. US military are not fired as a regular employee could be, US military face court martial and possible demotion or dishonorable discharge, if not prison time, for violating military policy, law, or orders from superiors.
I think the outrage is misplaced.
The 3 sons and grandsons that were deleted recently. Did the ministry of health add those number to the 30k?
Say it right white Americans, non white 3 Palestinian American have been killed in the west bank.
I mean, were that not the case we would not be in a situation with so many thousands of people threatened with starvation
What goes around, comes around.?
My outrage about Gaza is not "selective."
A U.S. airstrike in the final days of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan intended for an ISIS-K terrorist instead killed the aid worker Zemari Ahmadi and members of his family.
After initially calling it a "righteous strike" and claiming no civilians were killed, the Pentagon admitted its mistake and promised to resettle members of Ahmadi's family and employees of the aid organization he worked for.
Did she say that it was incompetence when there are so much evidence of deliberate actions with genocidal statements from prominent Israeli government officials and soldiers posting their inhumanity on social media?
Why is everybody acting like they've never seen a war before?
"Ah, war schmore. Everyone kills any living thing they can see. Everyone behaves like a wild animal when they fight a war. What's the big deal?"
Israel is using famine as a weapon, that's not just normal warfare. It's a massive warcrime.
Andres says it was deliberate. I agree. 200 orher "mistakes.*

Oh poor Palestinians
If members of my family died during the Syrian civil war, If I were a Kurd, Yazidi, Rwandan, Uyghur, Rohingya, and of many of the groups who suffered greatly, I would wonder why the media has been so much MORE obsessive about the Gazans. Why is the suffering of these other groups less important? Let's compare the number of articles written about each of these groups, the number of social media posts, youtubes, protests, etc. And so LITTLE said about how Hamas throws Gazans under the bus every time. Buying weapons, building 350+ miles of tunnels with what money? Must be UN money needed for humanitarian aid precisely because Hamas is NOT doing its job to care for Gazans. Hamas DIVERTS water, food and other aid for themselves and not for Gazans. Hamas BROKE the last ceasefire on Oct 7th killing 1200 Israelis and taking hundreds hostage. You think they will keep any new one? Where's the evidence?
Plenty of selective outrage from 2003 war by Americans

, look and see, God has not given Israel back in 75 plus years, now. They think they are near to having it back. But, as a Christian, what I can see is that God will continue to deny the return of Israel, the way it has been made without Him and the example it is to the world, as it is.

Clearly this Emily has NO understanding of what war is about! Here, in this incident, 7 people died in an unfortunate accident, while on 7 October 2023 thousands were DELIBERATELY, with planned intent, brutally murdered and worse, in a clear terrorist onslaught. The massively disproportionate condemnation of this accident from main stream media demonstrates at best a lack of insight, but more realistically, a massive bias on the side of the "palestinians" . Also, the fact that the Oct 7 casualties included over 90% CIVILLIAN casualties whereas "palestinian" casualties have been below 50%, many of which served as HUMAN SHIELDS for Hamas terrorist fighters, is ignored by main stream media! In addition, in view of the fact that 71+% of "palestinians" actually actively support Hamas, this makes them non-civilians, or not?
Emily clearly has an agenda!
You may laugh at this and likely will but my father once asked me surprise of surprises if I might be interested in going into politics. I told him no and my reasons for rejecting that proposition... Morally and ethically Israel is not different from any country in the Middle East. Morally and ethically Israel=Saudi Arabia. The Israeli people did this by picking immoral and unethical leaders. America do not do this in 2024. This is easy to do when we vote. Fixing a problem that results from an imprudent voter result is something that typically takes generations to correct if it can ever be corrected.
Easy to do? Everyone will write in Cornell west? They will object to every letter and try to discredit every vote as misspelling.

Whilst I abhor all of the indiscriminate deaths in this region, this person is condemning people for selectively seeing deaths in the region. Unfortunately she is selectively seeing this region as the only source of war deaths. The world has selectively ignored the deaths of civilians in Ukraine which has been ongoing for over two years. Indeed it can be argued that the USA has sent Israel weapons which cause enormous indiscriminate death while sending Ukraine weapons which will not cause indiscriminate deaths. Hypocritical much?

Racism racism racism
They weren’t killed BECAUSE they were trying to provide aid. They were killed because the IDF erroneously targeted them as threats. When you say BECAUSE it makes it sound like the IDF purposefully wanted to keep aid workers from giving aid to Palestinians. The claim that the outrage demonstrates racism is also not true. The outrage is largely in part because of the high awareness of WK but also based on the fact that they had communicated with the IDF, it was known by the IDF that they would be traveling that route AND they were targeted. If those vans were full of Palestinians or other non whites, non westerners, and all of the same circumstances occurred, the outrage would still be there. It’s beyond ridiculous to tag racism onto this and claim that westerners or whites are more okay with non whites dying than with whites dying. Certainly, given that the war is being fought in the home of Palestinians and they are being bombed, yes - logically more Palestinians will die than whites or westerners. People ARE outraged about that. And honestly, maybe it should be on the news media that the first most of us heard that 190 aid workers had died before those from WK was AFTER these 7 were killed. And were any of those 190 targeted like these? Idk cuz that news never reached me. So sick and tired of people boiling down reactions to racism. It’s so easy to rip that crap apart.
Hamas would end this war and all the destruction and starvation and death that they have caused in Gaza in less than one day after thy surrender and end combat. But, Hamas does not want to end the deprivation. They want the destruction and starvation to continue.
And after this surrender of Hamas the war crimes and discrimination against Palestinians could continue as before? With the torture and the extra legal killings and displacing people and the war crimes? And with Israel having total control over Gaza and Palestinians not having autonomy?
Do you really believe that the only problem in Gaza is Hamas?
There is no defending Netanyahu and his actions, he’s a war criminal. He belongs in prison. But if people can’t see politically the victims on both sides, the way the area has been manipulated on both sides for geopolitical reasons for decades, the decades long cost in human life, is entitled to that opinion. But it is THE opinion that has kept this going for decades. Understanding and love will fix this, not more hate. If people are burnt out in a concerning way, it’s because the context is there. People know children are being used as human shields. And that should work. Child shields should works. The airstrikes were indiscriminate war crimes. The Israelis did not initiate this conflict. They have not used sexual torture on their captives. The6 are starving children now. Which hundreds of thousands of Israelis are protesting against.
There is a perspective where the Palestinian war crimes are excused, because their country was stolen. Except it wasn’t, the Israelis settled for less land than they paid for in the UN settlement that helped create Israel.
So let’s cut the crap.
First, Israel needs to leave all territories.
Second, a UN peacekeeping force needs to take over.
Third, Netanyahu, several of his supporters, the Leadership of Hamas and Hezbollah all need to be brought before The Hague for war crimes. Because they have all committed war crimes. So everyone who committed the war crimes needs to go to prison.
You all should ask yourselves why this situation is so weird, so artificially perpetuated, handled so differently in the press from anything else? Who benefits from this chaos? Where does the money come from and where does it go?
The people in charge on both sides are criminals. And they deserve fair trials. And we deserve to finally fix this unending open sore.
Thanks for advocating a balanced perspective that recognizes the need to find compromise and hold all those responsible accountable for this mess. Both sides have legitimate claims and the only path to true peace and prosperity is compromise. My only concern is that zealots on both sides will constantly provoke incidents with the sole goal of disrupting any chance for a peaceful compromise.

On the question of why did the IDF make this strike. They did not talk about "Lavender" and "Where's Daddy". Lavender chooses the targets (37,000) and has a known error rate that 10% of the targeted people were not fighters. Where's Daddy ( the program that chooses when and where to send air strikes) specifically waits until they are in residential areas and Israeli policy that 15 to 300 civilian deaths are acceptable in an air strike to kill one person. Given that there are 37,000 people on the target list ( of which Israel only believed 34,000 were fighters) and killing 15 civilians for each target means Islea feels killing 550,000+ civilians is acceptable.

Because I hear you claiming that the IDF has been just following the tried and true conduct of warfare... and that's a case that YOU need to make, Boris. The evidence definitively shows otherwise. The war has been a deliberate assault >>> on a civilian population, beginning October 8th and ongoing till today (and tomorrow). A 'shoot anything that moves war' coupled to an utter siege on food, water, medical services. One atrocity leap frogging past the next.
Journalists have ALWAYS been allowed in war zones. Israel are stopping foreign national journalists from entering Gaza.
She is not an expert to make judgment and she is just a writer.
Of course there is selective rage. Would Amanpour be so silent about Hamas use of human shields if the US or Israel would have done that?
Just a ratio of 32,000 Palestinian lives divided by 1200 isreali lives.
You horrid interviewers. Those 3 men were all senior Hamas military officers. Lucky them that they could be on top and get all the benefits. Heck, they're daddy's boys. But Amanpour remains silent to the point of being stupid and dishonest.
As human populations continue to grow; as the life support systems that enable life in Earth to exist continue to be paved over, over exploited, polluted, and degraded; as wars spread, as as fewer and fewer countries produce enough food for export, much less charity, and as the great threat multiplier that is climate change impacts food production and water availability, will we be able to continue to feed places like Gaza and Haiti? Don’t get me wrong, I think the world needs to feed everyone. But perhaps we should also start distributing condoms and educating people about family planning? Gaza and Haiti are just the most recent failed states that have collapsed in violence. Violence and chaos will continue to spread as agriculture collapses because of ecological collapse and global warming.
Corporations and religion are at the root causes of most of the above. Greed , poverty and magical thinking.
What?
These are stupid questions that don’t challenge the guest or audience
It can’t always be about race. This is why I miss Obama. He knew that.
She is a hypocrite and use double standard.
Emily Tamkin is so wrong, so infantile her analysis, why she thinks that Israelis will change the way they think because an IDF mistake. In a war there are many tragic mistakes, in a war people die tragically and many by mistakes. In this war dies Israeli soldiers too, there are many moms and dads crying for them all the time. She should be asking who started the war and why they are holding innocent hostages. It is so easy to finish the war. Hamas surrender and hostages back home. This is the key issue, by ending the war there will be no more IDF mistakes, meanwhile there will be more mistakes, once in a while, and no matter who is there could be a target of a mistake. Israelis are fed up of the war, but they want it to continue until there will be no more existential threat to the Israelis in the borders and inside. Very simple to understand.
She is a pro israeli propaganda.
Israel has the legal and moral right to protect his children.
Not only that, but it happened many times in other conflicts that AID Workers have been killed... Where are you coming from? From Mars?
Its not a war quit lying
