- Pack up the Butterfingers, Dumpster Dwellers, because we're headed to the Amazon this week with Mr. Lobo to MEET THE APPLEGATES! The spread of deforestation in the South American rainforest has been destroying the homes of local wildlife. Unbeknownst to the outside world, a race of giant insects with shapeshifting abilities plot to infiltrate Small Town USA and execute a nuclear holocaust in retaliation. Directed by Michael Lehmann of "Heathers" fame, comes another satirical cult classic lost in the shuffle of the early 90s due to poor marketing and the collapse of New World Pictures. Join Dick, Jane, Sally, and Johnny as they try to navigate the American dream and the trials and tribulations of life as humans.

Thanks for inviting me on!
We had a blast! Thanks for hanging out with us!
@@MovieDumpsterChristina Applegate was not in this movie. I was very upset about it. So I did not consider this a successful video.
Top tier guest always, thanks for the great show
Holy gawd...thought this movie was a fever dream I had at 2. Next you'll tell me Freaked happened...
We eventually want to get to that too, haha.
@@MovieDumpsterYESSSSSS PLEASE DO FREAKED 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻!
Thanks for doing this one. I looked at the thumbnail and was, "I never seen this one." Then partway in it hit me. I have seen this movie. So thank you thank you thank you. As I get older, I lose more and more of my memories from when I was young. My memory has become a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces. But you guys are helping me find those memories, one movie at a time. Thank you.
Glad we could help you out! Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
The whole 'Swordfish' thing dates back to the 1932 Marx Brothers film _Horse Feathers,_ in which it was the password required to gain entry into a speakeasy (this serving, naturally, as the basis for a series of pun-laden exchanges and sight gags). The memorably absurd password has since been referenced and/or parodied in more pieces of media than can possibly be tallied here; suffice it to say that it was indeed a well-established trope by the time it was featured in _Meet the Applegates._
Thanks for the info!
The letters section was very touching. You guys bring comfort and joy to a lot of people and we are all very appreciative of what you guys do here in the dumpster.
Thanks for your support! 🙏💚📼
Oh no - not MR LOBO!
oh no, not the landlord!
Still waiting for the rent
Thank you for unlocking all these old memories of movies I haven't watched since I was kid. This, along with Munchie, I was taken back to the past
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
I discovered this movie from GoodBad Flicks, where I often discover underrated flicks.
Absolute treat of an episode. I always love hearing Mr. Lobo give opinions and discuss movies. He has so much respect for any film that he can toss it into a dumpster and make it feel like it was done with absolute love and affection for it. He is the Keanu Reeves of cult and horror film commentary in that there is never an ouce of negativity in anything he says, and it comes from such a sincere place that you can only love him for it. I never even heard of this movie and now i'll be having to watch it this weekend.
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
The chick who played the daughter was also in Wes Cravens Shocker from 1989. She played the girlfriend in that movie who became a ghost in the movie. She retired from acting early which is why she wasn't in more stuff beyond this and Shocker. She retired to I believe help abused children or something like that.
I was literally just talking about this movie last month with a friend of mine and they had no clue what I was talking about.
I love Hudson hawk you guys should definitely talk about it
Hudson Hawk was bigger in Japan at the time because it remended the people of Lupin III.
Love the content, that's why I'm here; quick note, though I'm sure you're aware, Sean was twice as loud as Lobo ('s Lobotomy Laboratory).
Yes, we had a hiccup with Lobo’s audio. Thanks for your support! 🙏💚📼
I remember Glenn obviously Beetlejuice and sleepwalkers. I watched a bunch of times as a kid because I've read all Stephen King's books even though that doesn't matter lol. but I also remember him from demolition man because he's also wearing a robe or kimono I think even mentions it
I know I'm a dick for this, but the scene in Heathers, with the funeral of the deceased football players, is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Classic movie.
I’d catch this on cable a few times as a kid. I remember liking it.
Love Ed bagley too!
My last name is Applegate. We used to have to movie poster in our house growing up
Not 1 minute into this review and am already ecstatic about getting into the nuts and bolts of a film that scarred me for life at just 6 years old
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
When I saw this as a kid... I always thought of this movie to feel similar to Parents (1989). They were implanted in my head as the 2 weird family movies lol.
Such a great review with some great laughs!
Speaking of great laughs if anyone reading this hasn't seen Joe as Mr. Lobo's agent yet, you need to check that out right after this episode. I laughed so hard I cried 😂
Glad you enjoyed the show! And thank you! 🙏💚📼
I love your reviews but I have this bad habit of putting it on my watch later and then taking about a week to watch the old school movie you’re talking about and then finally getting back to the actual review. You guys are fucking awesome. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
I thought that I had somehow dreamt this movie when I saw this as a kid in 1995, but the more I got older it krept back in my head. This movie scared the shit out of me as a kid and it still does as I am 35 years old now. You guys are in for a tweet. I wish more people saw this movie as kids. The one scene that fucked me up was the scene where the daughter transforms while getting raped by the jock in the gym. That shit scared me as a kid and it still fucking scares me as an adult.
still one of my favorite. Happy Madison movies doesn't even have Adam Sandler in it. his grandma's boy. I watched that movie so many times staying home from school lol
I remember this movie either on wpix channel 11 or the movie Channel having always having a double feature with either Parents the cannibal family film or heartbeats the andy kaufman robot movie. I'm assuming cause they both had a dark comedy tone to them, I'm not terribly sure. Love to see a doc about meet the Applegate though, I think that could be really fun.
Heartbeeps!! Stay tuned for that 🤣
I watched this here on youtube years ago. loved it.
A guilty pleasure I watched several times
Caught this movie on HBO 20 yrs ago and was disturbed in a good way. BTW the daughter was Hawt!!!
Meet the Applegates has been on tv before like 18 years ago on channels like TBS and AMC. the movie has that 1950s vibe to it on purpose and dunno if its any better than The Stupids but both movies have their own charm etc
Another great episode
Thank you! 🙏💚📼
Used to watch on HBO at my best friends house
love the content boys!
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Thanks! This is without a doubt a legit cult film (It deserves a second life on home video) I could see Vinegar Sydrome acquiring the rights in the future! It’s also one of those films you have to watch multiple times to pick up everything going on within the film! It’s super smart and was lost in the shuffle due to how you unique it was 👍👍👍
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the show! 🙏💚📼
These guys are the best and pick great movies!
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
can't wait for this guys!!!
That guy who gets lit on fire in every movie Was the guy from Samurai Cop(you know the One!)Ironically, he froze to death 😂
He’s in a bunch! 😆
I vaguely remember watching this movie when it first came out on vhs and my older cousins renting it. I remember it being weird asf and now I think its still just weird asf. All I can say is it does take you back to a time when filmmakers could do a lot of drugs and put whatever they want onscreen...thats something to be nostalgic about.
That's insane. the time difference between this movie which was what 1990 and swordfish I think was like 2000 or 2001 lol I guess it's always been a thing using that for computer passwords
damn hearing that list. reminds me you guys still need to do little monsters. and one of my favorites growing up flight of the navigator
It's coming! We're waiting for a special guest to be ready to do it.
super excited!
Is he a lentil? Haha
That Jerk that pushes her is the same guy from VSI in Lawnmower man!
Nice catch!
Sean- I'm not even sure I was alive when this was filmed
Senior Wolf- :: mock cntrl/alt/delete ::
As a 51 year old, I felt that too, Mr Lobo hahaha
I also found your channel from the famous hack the movies channel
This movie is quietly awesome. Watched it at summercamp and never forgot bout it
That must have been a trip!
This it just me or dose Applegates sound ilke a place you go for food happy Halloween all the dumpsters out there
You should do The Man With Two Brains and Doctor Detroit.
movie review request------ village of the dammed, its would be a funyn episode, its got superman, crodidile dundee gf, molly from look whos talking, lol
That's a great one!
I sort of remember this movie from the time I was a kid. Lets see how well you guys jog my memory!
I remember seeing it randomly one time much younger as well..I think it was just the end...but who knows!🤷♂️
I think the whole swordfish bit has been a thing since the Marx Brother’s A Day at the Races
House Of Buggin!
I love FX movies. Write the story around the FX! Good times.
Whoa I forgot about this movie, the movie channels use to show this all the time. I thought they were roaches 😅 tho
The sister was the girlfriend in Shocker!
The only other movie Camy Cooper (Sally) was in was Wes Craven's Shocker where she played a ghost.
Not quite. She was also in the awful _Freaky Friday_ ripoff _Like Father Like Son_ with Dudley Moore and Kirk Cameron, the middling Judd Nelson thriller _Every Breath,_ and (most significantly, perhaps, in the context of Movie Dumpster) _Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace_ (a.k.a. _Jobe's War_ ). Additionally, she made appearances on a number of popular TV shows (including _Knots Landing, General Hospital,_ and _21 Jump Street_ ), as well as in a handful of TV movies. Of most interest to myself, though, she starred in the highly entertaining, über-nineties Sega CD/Saturn FMV game _Double Switch,_ which was the spiritual successor to the infamous _Night Trap. Double Switch_ also starred Corey Haim, Debbie Harry, and R. Lee Ermey, amongst others, and was directed by Mary Lambert, who is probably best known as the director of the original 1989 adaptation of _Pet Sematary_ and its 1992 sequel. These days, Camille is recognised as a top national expert on issues relating to the media, and has been involved in advocacy work related to the safety and protection of children and other at-risk groups, as well as having been instrumental in successful campaigns to change policies, reform legislation, and increase funding for law enforcement in these areas.
@@bryangarcia5599 She was in Lawnmower Man 2? Hmm. 🤔
@@tj112286 Yes, with the most ridiculous faux-'futuristic' hairstyle you'll see this side of anime. I'm certainly not saying the movie is good, only that it's... _interesting._
@@bryangarcia5599 was she the one with the short haircut?
@@tj112286 Yes; sort of a short, sharp, severe bob-style haircut, I suppose you'd call it, in platinum blonde. Her character is called 'Jennifer', and is introduced by name at about the 15m42s mark in the film, which is currently free to watch on RUclips.
FYI Lentils are pulses not beans!.
But also a legume! 😆
If you guys want to do another supernatural Dabney Coleman movie do Modern Problems. Chevy Chase gets psychic powers and does a lot of coke and there's tons of sex talk. Crazy shit...
Sounds like a banger 🤣
This movie was kinda weird granted I saw it at 10 so yea!
Can you tell me please, what happened to the Mountaintop 9 channel?
We have no idea what that is.
It's driving me crazy. What's the 3-headed orange monster next to the Casey Jones mask?
The Deadly Spawn!
@@MovieDumpster Thank you! and great job on the review as always.
Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Does Lobo not understand how a microphone works? He's moving his head around so much I can't hear a goddamn thing!
That was a microphone? Ohhhh! Now I get it!
Sorry, Kieth. We had a couple issues and it was super late when we were recording. The next one will be perfect. Thanks for watching! 🙏💚📼
Saw this at the King drive in
Tony doesn't post enough videos so that's on him
