I've had a Thor cowl intake for quite a while now I like it. I've seen the spectre one before but I had no idea the filter was inside the tube like that, that's kinda interesting hopefully it's not too hard to find a replacement. I really like having my filter in the cowl, I use the standard style filter from Thor with a pre-filter sock in most conditions I bought a couple of thor filters from them for spares I've spent a bunch of time researching cone style filters to see if there's anything else that fits in that space but the thor filter is the best and largest that will fit and its also a good quality but they are pricey. In dusty and sandy conditions I use a big UNI foam pod filter with filter oil exactly like what dirt bikes use, the oiled foam filter is much better for dust and sand I use a pre-filter on that too. The K&N style filters really suck in sand and dust especially without a pre-filter. For anyone interested that has a thor intake the UNI filter i use is part# UP-6325ST. It's a tight fit in the cowl I think I've gone back like 3 times with a dremel to open up the hole a bit more but I service my filter regularly. I think a lot of people worry about water and having a cowl intake but the cowl vent is fake on that side. The only time you have to worry about water is when you go through deep water and get a big wave that comes up over the car and floods the cowl but even then I've never had any issues, the cowl drains are pretty large and most pre-filters repell water.
Wow! A lot of great information. I was able to find a replacement filter very easy. Amazon carries them and had one at my house within a day or two. I really like the Thor intake, but I'm not a fan of having the filter inside the cowl. It makes changing the filter a little more difficult. The spectre allows me to change the filter with one bolt and just by opening the hood. I think a lot of people don't realize that the passenger side of the cowl is not open like the driver's side. Unless you submerge your jeep to the windshield, you are most likely ok. I avoid water at all costs and mainly stick to rocks. Thanks for the info on the filters. I'm sure someone will get use from it.
Is the intake the smooth one or the pie cut one like mine? Spectre sells a flat version of the part that mounts to the fire wall. That might work. I think it's like $6-8 bucks on Amazon .
It's still too early to tell for me. I'll know on my next run out if I feel like I got any more power. I think since I'm running a header and optimized throttle body and a pretty free flowing exhaust , I should see something. I definitely have a quicker throttle response
@@mohameddabous3781 the hub I bought , I found on Facebook marketplace. It was a weld in hub with 5 bolts. I then matched the steering wheel to fit my hub. If you are dead set on that steering wheel. You will need to find a weld in hub that will accommodate a 5 bolt steering wheel, or get a 3 bolt hub and run an adapter. My setup was not a bolt in setup and I no longer have auto off turn signals or air bags. I am not sure if you were looking for a similar setup. But running it the way I did removes those options.
Are you referring to the tool I used after the hole saw? That was a body saw from HF. I need to pick up a nibbler though. I've been wanting one for a while .
I have the Specter cowl kit specifically for the TJ. It's NOS in the box. I've been thinking of installing it, but I've read cold air intake is a hoax. You may gain 5 HP max. Anyone care to dispute this?
Nate from dirt lifestyle actually did a pretty thorough test on the TJ cowl intake. I don't remember specifics but I remember there being lower intake air temps which could potentially add a little bit of horsepower. since the daughter I haven't dynoed my Jeep but I do have slightly better throttle response.
good video ! I have installed a Spectre elbow on the intake manifold connected to the Air Box. I didn't smooth out the welds inside - do not expect any issues with the air flow - your thoughts ?

I have the part number if you need it they sale it for 32 $
Spector performance HPR 9833
Similar to a Loch-Stewart intake. Loch-Stewart was from Queensland, Australia. A legend of his time.
Good to know. I had never heard of that brand before
Nice score on that intake Mark.💪👍👍😁😁
Thanks Dan! FB marketplace for the win.
I've been wanting a cowl intake for awhile now
I'm excited to see if there are any performance benefits. I can feel a throttle response from it. Really , it was for the space saving for me
Sweet video, thank you
I like that version better.
Works great so far.
I have that intake sitting in my garage but it didnt come with the angled piece to bolt on the cowl

@@FMJeeping its the smooth one , cool ill check that out , ive even thought about just getting some wall mounted pvc
Keep us updated on how u like it
@@edfrmthabay I'm jealous. I like the smooth one better. The PVC mount should work as well. The spectre one I believe is plastic anyway
I had the spectra or whatever on my 2000 it felt like I lost power with that like cone filter

Can you please send the link for the steering wheel thank you
amzn.to/3Aqy5S7. You will need a hub to match though. It's not a straight bolt in.
Can you please help me. With the part number of the hub thank you so much

What size rivenuts did you use? Just got one used witg a new filter!
I think i used 1/4-20 rivnuts

Shouldn't have any issues. Minimal air flow increase if you smooth them out. You probably wouldn't even notice.

EVap leak?
What are you using for door pins
No evap anymore. All ripped out. I'm using 3/8 ball detent pins .
I found the same one at the junkyard for 10 $ I order the filter for 31 $ works v good
I really like mine. Wakes up the 4.0 rather well.
But thank you for the videos I learn a lot from you
