I really like the fact that this is one of the few tutorials that aims for creating a nice and clean beat instead of using 13 layers of kicks, 10 layers of snares, a chain of 30 compressors and overall complicating the whole process, making the sound difficult to understand (I am looking at you artfx...). Thanks!
Sincerly I love you bro, Im from arizona and have been raving since you had to call the hotlines. Grew up listening to dj craze back in 1999. Just making a good roller for my homies means the world.
I knew how to make a basic DnB beat before this tutorial but the trick with shortening your samples really makes them roll so thank you very much. Hoping to see more of you in the future !!!
Really loving your stuff. Honestly, you teach exceptionally well. The fact you keep it simple and don't bamboozle with ridiculous detail makes learning production so enjoyable. Kudos. Do you have Patreon?
watched a few of your tutorials on DNB production now and they are by far the best I've came across . clean, straight to the point and easy to understand keep it up mate
Another good way to add humanised rhythm to a groove is to change the velocity on the hats, but not just having one hat at 100% and the next 70% in sequence all the way through (which does work fine) you an randomize the velocity levels so that it gives a more natural swing to the beat. Loving the content as always Alan.
Another great video. I like the attention paid to all the small details. You think like I do and try and get the most out of what you have, while obtaining perfection in the process. You took some pretty insignificant sounds, but after tweaking and proper layering, you really got everything to sit nice and 'tight' in the mix.
Great tutorial, would you be open to do one around mixing those drums? Saturation, eq, compression and limiting to tame the dynamics and make sure it’s not peaking :)
STRANJAH sorry, probably a silly question but your beats are 1/8 notes right? I’ve been doing mine 1/16 - is that wrong or just gives a different style?
Just discovered your videos and already learned some good tips. Thanks! From now I think I'll put all my drum parts in separate racks. Btw, have you tried using Auto Pan to add shuffle to your hats? Set phase to zero, use a sawtooth envelope and bring up it's shape, then set the rate to add the shuffle. For example, if you've got 16th note hats, set rate to 8th note to duck alternating hats. Or set the rate using Hz and gently modulate using the Max 4 Live LFO device, to add further grooviness!
Alan, I love how detailed you went with your techniques. I can say you definitely have a great knowledge of beat making in all those years ;) Cheers. Looking forward for next one.
Bigup Kirill. Knowing you are in the profession of mixing, that's a great complement, and I will keep it up. I'm striving to improve my teaching and communication everyday, so I'm glad it's being appreciated.
Thanks STRANJAH. You're probably going to laugh but I could never program that DnB two step rhythm before now. This vid has totally upped my beats. You rule 😊
Much gratitude to you for the crystal clear breakdown of this song. Great techniques and methods for music makers of all levels! Keep up the wonderful work Stranjah.
Keeping it simple brother ❤️ Moving away from using layers of FX, samples and layers because we can do of PC processing power. Keep up the great work man, I’m sure that all your subscribers totally appreciate all your logical approach 👊🏻❤️🙏🏻💯🎯💯
Great. I will try the "different hi-hats" technique for sure. I personally would've spent a few words on the soft clip option of the glue compressor. A must for punchy drums.
Really helpful. Thanks for this. Is there a reason you have them as individual channels which you then group at the end rather than putting the drum samples in to a drum rack from the start?
Easy bro, just wanna say you have helped loads with these videos! keep up the great work... Can you do a video of building a full jump tune, with drums, arrangement of song etc
hey man! What do you think about using the Play Series : Empire Breaks (from Native Instruments)? I think it's great to create some of your "own drumbreaks" and it's textures are great to.
really nice video! sometimes what i do is to have to sustain really low instead of -inf this way the decay can be even shorter and then you tighten the sustain length by decreasing the length of the midi notes! thanks for sharing the knowledge!
this is really great, thank you Stranjah. Coupla q's - Could you recommend a glue compressor vst for other daws? Also whats your view on transient shaping and would you use a plugin at the end of the chain to catch any peaks?
I especially enjoyed the procedure of conveying the message and the structure of the information. One question though, would you be able to articulate the difference you would get between using amplitude envelopes versus clip length and fades on one shot drum samples?
Essentially it is the same idea using amplitude envelopes. I believe with the basic Simpler in drumrack there are no envelopes, which is why I use the decay. If you convert to Sampler, then you can use the envelopes to achieve this. It really is the same idea!
He has a collection of jungle breaks, and there is always grabbing the classic like the amen, copper, think and hotpantz break from rhythm librarys break collection but on the terms of breaks not ripped from records I just recommended just browsing on splice
just watched the bass portion of this series - really cool! curious how you get those quickly repeated FM modulations happening at 14:32 ....anybody know?
hello stranjah I kinda need some help, I've got Into a problem on abelton and I've looked on the internet and can't find any solution. I press play on my sketch and half way through the song a track decides to solo by it's self. I've turned off all automation and then it does it to a diffrent track on abelton. really putting a hault in my learning dude!! fingers crossed you get what I mean
hey man I loved that tutorial, also can you please tell the name of your breaks pack? I already have one but it's only wav files, and I have to place the markers everytime before slicing it
The one I use a lot is from Jungle Warfare, but I had to cut them all up in Recycle manually, took me 2 days. Rhythm Lab makes a good breaks pack that is pre-cut for you.
yeah guys don't worry about Equalizing your drums just throw in as many frequencies as you can because you want it to sound as loud as you can through the speakers !!
As an old school junglist, this new style has not warmed up to me. I was raised on Dillinjah, Virus, Prototype, etc. The percussion was integral to the high energy levels. God, I’m getting old......
ZN X I don’t knock it bruv. It’s just not a style that does anything for me. I haven’t been to a party or club in over a decade so my opinion is a grain-of-salt type thing.
I really like the fact that this is one of the few tutorials that aims for creating a nice and clean beat instead of using 13 layers of kicks, 10 layers of snares, a chain of 30 compressors and overall complicating the whole process, making the sound difficult to understand (I am looking at you artfx...). Aha so true man
well it really depends on which music you're aiming to make
Killed him
Dont bash ArtFx. Ive learned so much from him.
Don't look for bass tutorials, it's like 40 stages of resampling the same sounds with a million audio effects.
Sincerly I love you bro, Im from arizona and have been raving since you had to call the hotlines. Grew up listening to dj craze back in 1999. Just making a good roller for my homies means the world.
This video is all about my favourite topic. Tightness. The tighter the better! Thanks Alan, for sharing the same mind set!
Much respects Andrew!
@UCuLeNPXhYbzAr_P3Mw72Uaw Oh but of course! What else would it be about? 😉
I knew how to make a basic DnB beat before this tutorial but the trick with shortening your samples really makes them roll so thank you very much. Hoping to see more of you in the future !!!
Great to hear!

Just started to learn about producing music, your way of explaining is the best. Thanks man 👍🏼
Sweet, sweet drum programming. Love it!
I'm finally starting to get good at this and this is all down to your teaching. I cannot thank you enough for what you are doing.
I had figured some of this out on my own but, this video really helped fill in the gaps!
You're the best! Your explanations are very clear and I really like the sounds you're using to make examples. A big thanks to you :)
Big up stranjah for sharing your knowledge with us ✌🏻
Your welcome, and good luck
Great (again as usual). Thank very much for these tutorials
probably the best tutorial ive ever seen
loved this one, the break beat has always alluded me. Glad to get some more understanding on how to form them
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome job mate many thanks for taking the time.
Awesome awesome awesome. Your videos are tight and informative, thanks for continuing this series.
Thank you once again!
Nice to move through it quickly! I can spend about 3 hours trying to do that and by then I've forgotten what I set to do in the first place ;)
Thanks. Let me know if you have success in the studio!
Thanks a lot Stranjah, Many of my questions have been answered in all your videos.

You took some pretty insignificant sounds, but after tweaking and proper layering, you really got everything to sit nice and 'tight' in the mix.
I'm glad you picked that up, you are right - it's finding simple mundane sounds, and then cleverly programming them to create a funky groove.
Your videos are incredibly helpful. Massively underrated!
Watched loads of your tutorials, thank you so much for making these videos man, super helpful, really helped me improve a lot of aspects of my work!
Great to hear that! I wish you the best on your production journey!

Thank you!!! Solved such an easy issue for me 🤣🤣🙏🙏🙏
Thousandth like! This is one of the best videos I've seen on programming drums. Love this DnB series!
love this tutorial! would you consider doing a tutorial on the sound design of the bass you used in the preview of these drums?
Thanks Arlo, I'll look into it for a future video. :)
Yeh do that please!
Your tutorials are amazing! Thank you so much! They have changed everything for me!

Thanks for the suggestion on the soft clip, I will have a look at it!
Excellent tutorial, thanks from "more techno kind of guy" :)
And then you crunk up the saturation to crunch that tightness! Nice vid
haha yeah, its hard not to once you have a nice groove
Simple and deadly man sounding sick!
This is superhepful. Thaaaaanks.

Great tutorial again thanks dude!
No problem!
@@STRANJAH I followed your foghorn bass tutorial step by step and still didn't end up with the right sound? Its really left me quite confused 😟

this is lovely. Thak you mate. Any chance you might be doign a drum layering tutorial? arrangement in to a track
Yes so this is part 1 of the minimal D&B series. Next videos I will build on top of the beat with basslines, and atmospherics.
Dope bro. Can we get some mastery drum progression tuts please
Drink up🍻 every time he says "Tighter"😁

You can make them yourself via Recycle Tom! Or, a lot of older packs made loops in Rx2.
