EU says X's blue checks are deceptive, transparency falls short

The European Union has said blue check-marks next to usernames on X - formerly Twitter - deceive users and break the EU's digital rules. The European Commission has outlined preliminary findings of an investigation which found that the blue ticks fall short in terms of transparency and accountability under the union's social media rules. Under Elon Musk's ownership, the platform has allowed anyone who paid to obtain a blue check. Jan Vermeulen, editor of MyBroadband, unpacks how serious these preliminary findings are.
