  • Rallying to the Challenge 2023 - DAY 1
Featuring Gary Rafaloff and Katie Kopil
In recent years, Parkinson's research has seen exciting advancements in our understanding of Parkinson's biology, paralleled with the development of new biomarkers (means of measuring disease progression). In light of this progress, Gary Rafaloff and Katie Kopil advocate in this talk for the creation of a new staging system for Parkinson's that is based on biology.
This talk was given as a part of the Rallying to the Challenge meeting, hosted by Cure Parkinson's and the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 27-28, 2023. Rallying to the Challenge is a meeting designed for and by people with Parkinson’s, advocates, and care partners to explore how the Parkinson’s community can impact and accelerate research. It is a part of the larger Grand Challenges in Parkinson's Disease meeting, an annual scientific symposium for Parkinson's research.

This is very informative to the extent I can understand it. I feel my disease stage is right in the middle of all this..diagnosed with PD in the last yr. (78 yrs old with tremors & muscle pain in arms. Also neuropathy in hand & foot. Datscan abnormal). Progress in treatment is painfully slow..levodopa gradually being increased.
