  • Throughout the wide-reaching career of the once-faceless artist known as Joseph Edward Mulherin, better known as nothing, nowhere, there has been a great deal of transformation and sonic evolution. Past the passageways of lyricism of mental health discussions, deep-jab ruthlessness, reminiscing on the past, childhood, trauma, loss, heartbreak and more, nothing, nowhere proved himself to be one of the most standout artists within the tradition of emo hip hop, transcending it to become his own unique artist with a wide range of influences.
From grunge to emo, post-hardcore to indie, alternative to lo-fi, metalcore to punk, each album pushed nothing, nowhere into new heights of simultaneous experimentation and torch-bearing for the vintage styles that brought him and inspired his musical journey.
Going from a DIY indie rock and emo/post-hardcore inspired rapper on Soundcloud under a variety of names, to sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with bands like Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Twenty One Pilots and A Day to Remember on Fueled by Ramen, this grassroots Massachusetts/Vermont artist showcased that anyone can start from very little and end up becoming a sensation.
From underground emo rapper to moody alternative rock torch-bearer to metalcore powerhouse, follow me hand-in-hand into the void of nothing, nowhere, where I go into each release of this project, the history and background, stylistic influences and evolution of one of the most intriguing and impressive solo artists in all of metal right now.

As a longtime nothing nowhere fan I found this video very well put together and very insightful. One thing I would say though is that Trau Choi which is one of Joe's old bands should of been mentioned as it shows where he came from more as an artist and provides foreshadowing to his later projects. Also the nothing nowhere archive would have been a nice mention as well as it gives us a raw glimpse into his creative process. Apart from that great video

Mf tweeted he was done with emo rap, dropped void eternal as his elaboration, pulled a "sike!" move on us in another tweet, then dropped Dark Magic... an emo rap mixtape that I can't help but feel Joe wanted to sort-of parody the Shadow Wizard Money Gang meme. Never underestimate this guy.

You forgot to mention when he first done the real drums and electric guitars, bass guitar with the hi hat trap parts in Nevermore from his first album Reaper. Just wanted to mention that which was the last track from that album. I first got to listen to him sometime around mid 2016 with I'm Sorry, I'm Trying which i loved and i heard some more like Lakehouse ft. Mikey the Magician and Deadbeat Valentine. Then i kept listening to more then it was 2017 and he was putting out some of the Reaper stuff then i found out he was gonna be releasing Reaper his first actual album and i pre-ordered the CD it came with a hoodie, sticker, shirt it was around $100 then Ruiner was coming out i pre-ordered that one which came with a lot of cool things for $120 if i remember that one as well and i just kept buying his CD's and merch i never got to buy any vinyls as i don't have a vinyl player but i did buy Bummer and Who Are You on Cassette. I'll tell you i fell in love with N,N. His music felt like my childhood and nostalgia and like a movie. Glad he just put out another good one called Dark Magic it's really good it sounda like Reaper/Ruiner. ❤ One love!
