I feel like the point of this album was mostly about how his life has been since Void Ethernal dropped, seeing how big that album got and the amount of bands that toured with him. He got very famous and that probably took a tool on him, I see it more as a retrospect of what 2023 was to him. He has talked about his life a lot on other albums as well, i don't really care much about his personal life, i like when artists kinda keep that in private, but as long as the emotion is there and it takes me to a moment of my life, that's more than enough.
Witch hunter is my favorite on the album 🤣 I do a lot of mixing myself and yes, the track is quiet, but I just bump my volume because it’s worth it lmao. But also have to say that it’s not really the mix, it’s the master. You can hear that there’s a lot more headroom to use.
Beige is absolutely blink-182 or all time low inspired, I definitely hear both Tom and Alexander in those vocals. That song was a perfect homage to the quintessential emo rock playlist from the late 2000's and I'm absolutely down for an emo revival of that caliber.
I definitely agree with your criticisms. For me this album wasnt that special when it comes to joes music, it imo lacked a little bit of direction/cohesion. It goes from mellow to heavy to mellow etc. Another thing is he showcased a few of these songs on his live like 3 yrs ago, back then songs like beige were insane to hear from him, but void eternal does all of that heaviness better. My favs from the songs i didnt hear before are drain touch (mostly the first part that was done by misogi, he knows how to get that shit stuck in your head), reaper gang and okok (another which sounds very misogi-ish). nothing,nowhere. lp still his best release imo lol
