Look like great idea there Coffey! Speeds up the process 4 sure. I've used something similar in the past for snare sets in open trails where nothing to tie it off and was ok......... take care
Good setup buddy. I'll be running a similar setup this season. Got some great stuff and I'm looking forward to watching your videos again this season. Tight chains
My first two seasons as a trapper, I made up a bunch of cable tie offs and used them for all my foot hold trapping. In Mississippi, we have about 100X more trees than people so you are almost certain to have a tree nearby. However, I did make my tie offs 6 foot long, which worked a little better than the 5 foot length. Deploying the cable tie offs around a tree is super fast too! No need to pound in an earth anchor. I tried wire initially but it was just too difficult to work with. Last year, when I added a bunch of dog proof traps, I used standard earth anchors, which worked exceedingly well. They were less bulky to carry around plus I can just mark the earth anchor locations and reuse them at a later point in time if I want to try a productive spot more than once during the season. But overall,, the cable tie offs around a tree is simple, cheap to make, fast to deploy, and VERY hard to beat! This year, I will use both systems. Can't go wrong with either one. Plus it is fun to make your own cable tie offs and you save money too. Hope you fill your pickup bed slap full of fur this year!
Any worry on the raccoon going back through the whole on the tree with the trap attached to their leg, taking the trap and cable away from the tree? Thinking of double looping it around the tree to be safe. I would hate to lose my traps as they are costly.
I had a chain fail on a brand new DP the first time I used it. The metal looked like cast where the link failed I'm considering eliminating the chain and just using the cable.
Did ya try using a hammer to smash them ferrules? Was good talking to ya today. That's almost exactly how I make mine! You'll be happy with that thicker cable.
If a trapped critter can't run it can't develop enough momentum to pull-out. Given 5 foot of cable/chain/wire allows one to run 10 feet, which makes no sense at all??
Thanks, helpful and informative information about how to make your dog proof easy to stake.
Thank you
That's a slick idea there with the cable. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching
Right on with cable tie offs the only way to go in my opinion. We had our Convention yesterday got me a few goodies.l
Awesome brother
Very Informative. Thanks.

I like this idea! Looks easier then using tie wire!
It is!

I’m really hoping it saves us a lot of time
@@CoffeyOutdoors it seems like it would.

The loop is to small for the raccoon
Well that's a slick idea. How'd you come up with it? LOL Thumbs up
Thank you
This is such a helpful vid 🥰

Good🎶
Thanks
92 like👍
Thank you
Great video, I learn a lot from you. Except how to free up dedicated time!
Thank you. Finding time is hard
Well, the tree should make it harder for the traps to walk off!
Yes it will. Thank you
👍👍👍
Thank you

Yes sir I sure did. It was good meeting you to. I’m looking forward to using them
The only way to go brother
Got them all ready to go now
@@CoffeyOutdoors when you starting
Middle of November
@@CoffeyOutdoors I'm going to set a few racoon traps then and a couple footholds to see if I remember how
Good luck
👍👍
Thank you
Only thing I found is if they are too long they get leaverage and pull out
I’m making them 5 foot or less
3/32 cable and a earth anchors.
That works to. But I don’t have to pull these out of the ground
@@CoffeyOutdoors there more for thiefs!!
Understood
@@jack0903 Any thief would just cut the wire/chain if they couldn't pull the anchor out of the ground.
@@mccollapiaries but how many thief carry cable cutters??

I use old used snares on mine.
