HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 май 2009
- Released on the 1966 album, "Bye Bye Blues". This song was introduced by James Melton in 1937. Guy Lombardo had a #1 hit with it that year. Brenda's performance and arrangement is very simliar to the Dinah Washington version of the song which was a 1961 hit remake. Written by Harry Warren & Al Dubin.

The leaves of brown
Came tumbling down, remember
In September in the rain
The sun went out
Just like a dying ember
That September in the rain
To every word of love
I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play
A sweet refrain
Though spring is here,
To me it's still September
That September in the rain
To every word of love
I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play
A sweet refrain
Though spring is here,
To me it's still September
That September in the rain
I said that September in the rain
I have always loved Brenda Lee's music---ever since I can remember. ( I'm 64)!
This song proves my love of her is not displaced! Dinah comes in a close 2nd--even though she had the first hit with this song. Sing on Brenda!!!
Best interpretation of the song. Dinah Washington comes a close second.
素晴らしい曲ありがとう御座います
... just ... wow ... she owns this standard like nobody else out here ... ahhhh that September ...
So I've heard three interpretations of this wonderful track now. Jo Stafford, Dinah Washington and now Brenda Lee. I love the old songs sung by incredibly talented female vocalists. I love all three versions by these artists.
After listening to several different cuts....I've decided this is one of those can't miss cover songs!
simply the best version. I sing it 3 times a day.
Is that all? Part timer!
Pristine! Love this song done by her!
Brenda what a beautiful Voice and song I love it very much!
Love ❤️ Her And Her Voice ❤️
Such a powerful performance.
A big Brenda Lee fan, simply FAB!

Beautiful
Great redition of a great tune. The horns complement the swagger and power in her voice and the backup is perfect. I believe this rates as one of her very best. Thanks so much for your posting.
sorry duncan, dinah washington, without a doubt owens this song, it was a very big hit for her but brendas rendition was also very good. regard.
Brenda Lee, sempre maravilhosa!

..by 1966 Brenda's rock n roll/pop star had faded where most 1960 rock artists were now regimented to performing mainstream easy listening/"mature"(of that era) music as posted here. A death nail in their earlier society dated rocknroll coffins. Fortunately for Brenda and others, country music of the mid 1960's held onto a music style that allowed some "vintage" r&r artists to easily transition. Still, there was no going back......
Nagyon tetszett ez a gyönyörű zeneszám.
Köszönöm a szép élményt.
talented Lady. Much more than teen age songs.
brenda does almost as god a job by this harry warren creation, as diah washington each phrace beautifully sung, brenda does do credit to this great song-- sorry for those of you who missed the 1940,s and those faboulous 50,s
Linda música tanto na voz de Brenda Lee quanto na da maior cantora americana de todos os tempos, Dinah Washington.
Well it's September and it's raining outside! I wish it were September 35 years ago.
Our Brenda! love her!
Thanks ILoveJenni47. I appreciate the information since I'm very much into music; especially older hits. The adage " They don't make them like they used to, is certainly true,( in my opinion), when it comes to music. Actually, I like both versions: Dinah's and Brenda's. But as you probably noted, I'm very much a Brenda fan first-----although I do have a couple of Dinah Washington's records. She was also a very unique and talented performer!

*September In The Rain*
@kenmarsauer Thanks for your comments!
heard this on xm channel carolina shag and i thought it was dinah washington - tom thought it was wayne newton - this is great
@kenmarsauer Although Brenda's version is patterned after Dinah's, the original hits for this song were in the 1930's with Guy Lombardo and James Melton who introduced it.
Sweet
Came here from theLooney Tune Show 😭
You're welcome!
This swings.
The influence of Bert Kaempfert very much in evidence here....
I'll take Dinah Washington version also--but this is good...
Yes, Dinah is tops. But this is excellent!!!❤
Thank you, Melinda. I'll check that Encyclopedia of Popular Music In America out. I do use Amazon.com quite a lot; especially for backing tracks of the songs I sing and record.
there's a slight echo to the vocal here, am I hearing that right? Is that intended from the studio or elsewise?
Ken Cosgrove approves
Where is Brenda Lee now?
A few shows here and there. Family and grandchildren like any grandmother...
I always felt Brenda’s voice was a cross between Dinah and Patsy Cline. That must’ve really been something losing both your idols in the same year.
...brenda is a 'close' seconed to dinah washington...IMO
Woofnion?
She wasn't from Atlanta .... Rocky Ford Georgia in the Rain ..
Brenda was from Lithonia, Ga. Go Dogs
@@charlesmarshall2697 And played with Boots Woodall & The TV Wranglers In Atlanta.
Don has bad taste. This song is good
she voice like Fatin Shidqia Lubis from Indonesia...she is competition in X faxtor Indonesia...
Dinah and Brenda sing September in the rain....Dinah's version really moves my heart and it feels like she is singing about a past love that is embedded in her heart; Brenda's version is a nice tweak of the essence of the song...but if feels she is just giving us her version with no real feeling and not even a piece of her heart connected....so a warm emotional voice and a cold tech take on an old song
Peggy Lee's best version IMO. I think Julie London 2nd.
Really? Brenda was always good but this sounds like a direct takeoff of Dinah’s version from 1960!! ... and this wasn’t Brenda Lee ‘s usual style. If you didn’t know Dinah Washington’s signature sound and style, and hadn’t heard her original version- I guess you’d think nothing of it!
It's best by Jo Stafford
Are you sure this isn't Dinah Washington ?
Phillip Newcastle Gee I thought the same. I think it seems Brenda copied Dinah’s version which came out much earlier .
Love Brenda but she should have left it alone not her best .. Sorry
I so disagree.
