Here’s the reason they didn’t execute Ace immediately (I got it off Reddit):
They were trying to showcase their power - it was a public spectacle for propaganda purposes to try to end the Great Age of Pirates.
If they simply killed Ace, there's nothing to stop Whitebeard from simply going on a rampage and wrecking the Marines while they're scattered. Concentrating their forces, setting up an ambush, and having Ace as a hostage was their best hope to take him down and avoid an extremely devastating war against a foe who was said to have the power to destroy the world, and who might well have simply destroyed Marineford outright without offering battle in the first place.
yeah. Always thought that was kind of obvious - but over the years ive seen people ask that alot.
I mean lets be clear... his power allows him to just attack with tsunamis from potentially half way around the world. Thats how bonkers sea-quakes are in the real world as well. Of course the Marines had to "lure" him close and also use Ace as a "shield" of sorts so that WB doesnt just flatten Marineford without even showing up.
And Whitebeard still has a legitimate chance of completing his objective and escaping. Just really showcases the power of Whitebeard. 1 crew can literally stand up to the world lol.
If they killed Ace in one go, they wouldn’t have been able to kill a lot of them new world pirates either.
also i was reading someone said something like: the exact time of the execution was told all over the word, they would look weak if they just killed him an hour early. Also thats the reason why whitebeard was there earlier, he knew that the marines couldnt afford killing him mid-battle, since all the world was watching.

Well, funny story. Whitebeard's laugh is written as _Gurarara_ - has been since his introduction. The Japanese name for his devil fruit is _Gura Gura_ no Mi.
Did Oda plan that fruit so far ahead as to hide it in his laugh? Possible! The madman has done foreshadowing with longer gaps.
one piece story is average tho and a lot got sacrifised for the world building. So I dont think so

It is an anime-only scene I believe, but the shot of Blackbeard seeing the Devil Fruit is such a great character moment for him in my mind. He and his crew talk about 'fate' all of the time, and the way I interpret his character is that he would have been perfectly fine - perhaps even happy - to remain as a normal member of Whitebeard's crew, but had convinced himself that if fate should bring him that power, he would take it and change his life's course - hence his initial horror at seeing it, followed by the grin as he resolves himself.
As I said though, it was anime-only, so that may be far from the correct reading of the character. For now, it is the one I like most though.
I'm convinced that fate/luck is a real phenomenon in the One Piece world. The way Blackbeard talks about Fate, the way Ivan mentioned Luffy's luck, the way Zoro always bets on his own luck. It's not just real, but a trait of special/willful people. Not full predetermination or destiny, but something akin to the ability to make what you want to happen happen just by wanting it hard enough. It's why in this world recklessness is an admirable quality rather than something that gets you killed.
@@combogalis I always held a quiet and heavily unlikely theory that there is some force that grants people superhuman resilience - perhaps a fourth kind of Haki, Colour of Life or something. Something that explains how people in One Piece survive things they really should not, how Luffy can recover far faster than anyone expects, how the Awakened Zoans in Impel Down would wake up fit as a fiddle no matter how hard they were put down. I suppose willpower-induced plot armour (a crude way of putting your excellent point I know, but it is what sprung to mind) could also fill that role.

When they first mention Devil Fruit's back in the East Blue, the two powers used as examples of what they could do were "the power do breathe fire" and "the power to create tsunamis", both mentioned by Captain Morgan aka Helmeppo's dad.

In case you didn't know, Akainu (lava admiral) was the one who ordered the destruction of the civilian ship in Robin's backstory. He was a vice admiral back then.
And Sengoku, the now Fleet Admiral and Garp's buddy, was the one who gave Spandine the authority for the buster call.
The reason Whitebeard said, I said you to go was Whitebeard don't want Ace to take all the responsibility. WB did want Ace to not go, but he went anyway so as being a good father who doesn't want the world and his son to feel ashamed to not follow WB command, WB simply rejected that Ace didn't listen but said WB himself sent him(lying to protect him, It's like when your wife is proven wrong on something and she still wants you to say no she wasn't :P ). So no one blames Ace

You're right but it's not merely about shame. As Usopp explains to Robin on the sea train after she left the ship, a crew member needs the captain's permission to leave the ship. Because he left the ship w/o permission and against the wishes of his capt., technically his fate is no longer their responsibility. So, as you said, WB takes it back with this lie.

Btw, Ace isn't necessarily the second strongest of the Whitebeard pirates, he is just the head of the 2nd division. While him being the second strongest could be something to argue, him being the head of that division doesn't mean anything in particular.

There’s a reason that Marco in the wano arc was able to take on both King and Queen at the same time. There’s a reason why Marco was able to single handedly prevent the big mom pirates from entering Wano. There’s a reason why Marco was able to fight on equal grounds with the admirals at marineford. Ace is definitely top 5, you can make a case for top 3, but there’s no way he’s stronger than Marco. Nothing Ace has done will top Marco being able to fight both King and Queen at the same time.

He couldnt have. He was a Vice Admiral at the time. The order came from Spandine with the authority of (then) admiral Sengoku. What Akainu did was ALSO order the evacuation ship to be destroyed. And while that is certainly horrible, I do get his point. He wasnt eager to murder people or anything, but since the Marines were forced to do such a drastic action in the first place, they might as well go all the way so that the chance of having to do it AGAIN on a another island would go down in case some scholars escaped.

Ya boy misunderstanding a lot of things in this episode. Gotta try better at not taking things so literal. "I knew you wouldnt let me go after your head so easily" didnt mean Marcos head being a weak spot. They were talking about skipping the pawns and going for the "king" meaning Whitebeard(chess analogy obviously). So when Barcelino said "head" he was referring to whitebeard.

whitebeard's laugh, gurararararara, is a reference to his devil fruit power, the gura-gura no mi. he's one of the few characters who laugh in such a way. the only one i know of outside of him is perona.
also fun fact: the name "whitebeard" is both a right and wrong translation of his name. his name in japanese is "shirohige", with "shiro" meaning white while "hige" is a catch all term for facial hair. hence why he is called whitebeard but he has a mustache. when asked about this, oda said that "whitebeard" is the proper way to say it.
50:52 She needs to do her role man. It's really hard but her title of Warlord will be revoked, and she and Amazon Lily will be attacked which she is trying to prevent as a ruler. So the only thing she can do is to attack both sides (pirates and marines)

AYKSHULLY, when it comes to the ranked swords, Zoro has two of the 21 Great Grade that are one step below the 12 Supreme Grade (Wado Ichimonji he inherited from Kuina and Shusui he got from Ryuma). And the one sword that got rusted during Enies Lobby, Yubashiri, was another step below, one of the 50 Fine Grade. His cursed Sandai Kitetsu is another notch below that, a Grade sword.
But while we're talking about it, there's another Supreme Grade blade you've been introduced to, and it's Whitebeard's naginata (or Sword On A Stick), Murakumogiri. Which wasn't revealed until years after Marineford, but since Oda did it in bonus content, I feel like it's not a spoiler to share.

This is why Blackbeard is such and interesting character and Villain.
Because he had a plan the whole time. And he had the patience enough to just wait and wait for the exact right moment to make his moves.
He laid incredible low, not climbing up the ranks in the crew, but always learning about the New World, while under one of the strongest people alive in the world.
Even before he got his DF, he was already good enough to wound Shanks, someone on Whitebeards level.
WB understood immediately how dangerous of person Teach actually was. Someone that can wait and plan for years and years to make there move, is a true mastermind.
And he's a lot like Luffy. Believes in dreams, believes anything is possible, etc.
And he had knowledge and understanding of DF's that most don't have. Which immediately makes his backstory very interesting.

The "your?" luffy asked ivan about was because in japanese although there is no singular or plural form of most words... there is a way to group nouns... If i say luffy TACHI it owuld be like saying Luffy & Co... When you use that form to talk it should be obvious what you mean for it to make sense...

The Yoru, Murakumogiri (Whitebeard's weapon) and Shodai Kitetsu (i think the bald member Gorosei owns this) are the only known swords so far in the 12 Supreme Grade Sword category while Zoro's Wado Ichimoji (the sword with white sheath) and Shusui (the one he got after he defeated Ryuma) are in the 21 Great Grade Sword category.
If it hasn't occurred to you yet the theme of the arc is about family and the lengths one will go to save family. lol.
I forgot that Ace said Wano Kingdom in episode 464 in year 2010. Its been more than 10 years already. The foreshadowing and storytelling of Oda is very amazing. Wano Arc will be the one of the most important arc ever.
Technically they mention Wano a few other times way before these episodes (in thriller bark for example)
With Blackbeard I always thought it was a case of 'He is exactly who has always been, on the inside. He just doesn't hide either anymore.' Though of course he still sort of is hiding it because he's still lying about almost regretting it, can't tell if he's lying to himself as well as to everyone else though. So it could more be a case of 'he's still lying, only people don't believe him this time'.

Guys, they evacuated the civilians living in navy headquarters because of the fight that will happen, so there are no civilians in navy headquarters right now.
Sometimes it feels like they just have not understood yet that each important character (mainly the bosses) have their own specific laughter pattern/style... They keep asking why does ____ laugh like that? In manga you can tell who is laughing sometimes even if you don't see the image because the character has not been revealed yet... or stuff like that because we know speech and laugh styles...
You’re taking our commentary too serious if you think we don’t know that about the laughs. The laughs are just so interesting that we keep being bewildering. We just expressing that laughs are soooo good we keep sounding surprised at the concept

I think Whitebeard was thinking about stuff after saying to Ace not to go. Or maybe he did want to see what Ace could do even though, as he said, he had a bad feeling about it. WB knew that something was off, since he Blackbeard kill his crew-mate on the WB Pirates, WB knew that Teach knew his fate after doing such thing and that there was no way he could fight the Father Pirate. WB was probably trying to figure out the thoughts of Blackbeard at the time, he knew that Blackbeard knew how strong he was even sick of old age.
But yeah, he keep his silence while Ace was leaving to hunt down Blackbeard.

I feel that Whitebeard was actulaly somewhat responsible for Ace taking off. He teaches his crew his code, and what an unforgiveable crime is on his ship. Those are the rules Ace adhered to and kept his loyalty towards. So by trying to back off/make an exception for blackbeard Whitebeard broke his own code (and now ace's code).
